Nova smiled at the remark JD had made. For better or worse, it seemed the rogue's true age and experience were well-hidden.

Nova: Heh. He is just a kid, though, all things considered. Sabor, stay here.

The rogue figured the others could probably handle the bandits, but JD would probably continue to be arrogant if Nova didn't show him what he could do, and best to get that out of the way quickly. The rogue got up quickly but smoothly and slipped out of the car, landing right behind JD before the latter could leave the roof of the car.

Nova: Boo.

JD turned his head back to face Nova with an extremely dull and unamused expression before saying will all the sarcasm he could muster...

JD: Scary.

He then turned back toward the front of the train, where form of the robbers could be seen at a distance. Pulling a small scope from his pocket and peering through it, he saw that they were dancing about like idiots and shooting wildly into the cars below.

JD: They're moving around too much to disarm... Gotta stop them, though, 'fore they hurt some innocents.... If they haven't already.

With that he attached an extended barrel to the end of the revolver he had out, which the scope conveniently clipped on to. Looking through it, he started to adjust for wind speed and the fact that they were on a moving train when...

Random Train Robber: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhrgh!

JD moved his scope in the direction of the scream just in time to see one of the robbers fall over dead, an arrow sticking out his back.

Glenn: Gerudo!

Glenn, who had been leaning out the cargo car's door since shortly after Nova had left through it, was right. Closing in from either side of the train were at least two dozen horse-riding females, armed with bows and scimitars. Several of them had their bows out and pulled back, and they were taking out the robbers one by one.

JD: This just got a whole new level of complicated.

Johnathan: "I would determine otherwise!"

In a truly cinematic move, Johnathan sprang up and out through the roof of one of the railroad cars, conveniently landing right above Glenn! Ice swirled around him in the headwind of the speeding train, as he snapped his fingers and the hooves of several of the outlying Gerudos froze into the sand, sending their riders flying straight forward!

'A move like that is far too risky to try with the riders that are closest to the train... What else can I do?' Johnathan thought for a few seconds, and looked to Glenn in desperation.

---------------

The stewardess would be surprised to note that a small, very very cold stack of coins was left atop her cart as Johnathan leapt...

((I think Glenn is still in the car, and JD is up top))

Nova: What a dick.

The rogue decided a bit of a show was in order, but at the same time, practicality first. JD could probably stop the ones towards the back, and Johnathan the ones in the middle, but if the robbers stopped the engine, that would be another whole matter entirely. Nova decided he should see to it that this wouldn't happen.

The train had at this point started moving through a valley, with rock walls not too far away on either side, but hardly cramped. Still, the track was oddly curved around here, not nearly as straight as would be natural. Nova supposed the engineers decided to use the valley's natural bends rather than blowing holes through it. Still, it wasn't so bad as to prevent him from moving up the train.

And this he did. Slipping by JD, making sure to note his presence so the guy didn't get surprised and fire off a round, the rogue leapt to the next car, on which were a few bandits, who found themselves bowled over, one knocked off the train and the others just off their feet, as Nova ran over it and jumped to the next one. As he was about to do the same to the bandits on that car, he decided it was time to do something else entirely.

Nova: Crap!

With that, the rogue threw himself to the flat top of the car as the back of the train passed through the tunnel the passengers had wanted a bit earlier. A few bandits flew past him...or rather he sped past them as he went into the tunnel with the train and they remained outside. He only hoped the others in his group had noticed. That could be messy otherwise.

One everybody-ducking later, the train quickly left the tunnel, and several Gerudo jumped onto it from the cliff face above.

JD: Great...

----------

Meanwhile, further up the train... At the front of it, infact...

Engineer: Whaa! Who are you!?

Kiyone: No need to worry, sir, I'm Ranger First-Class Kiyone and I'll protect you. My partner is seeing that the bandits don't get the cargo. *thinking* ~PLEEEEEASE don't screw this up, Mihoshi!~

Johnathan swiped his hand at the drop-down Gerudos, and they were suddenly blown straight off course, and conveniently placed right beside the train as it sped by them. He whirled around only to discover that a team of them had latched onto the side of the train and were trying to break inside of it!

Nova quickly picked himself and ran towards the front of the train, not sure whether or not anyone was protecting the engine. And that's when he saw him.

A black stallion ran alongside the train, actually outrunning it by quite a bit, apparently having followed them through the tunnel. On it, clad in light but tough armor, was something the rogue had never seen.

A Gerudo male.

Nova: There's something special on this train...this isn't just any robbery.

The man leapt from his horse onto the train towards the front and tossed a few smoke bombs in the direction of the heroes before heading forward. Before he had vanished from sight, Nova had seen that he was powerfully built and carried a large blade. This might be trouble, he thought.

Glenn: Incredible! Gerudo males are extremely rare... Something about the females contributing both X-chromosomes which are then able to overwrite the Y or X contributed by the males they'd captured and mated with...

Glenn shook his head for a moment, clearing it enough that he could concentrate on the fighting going on around him.

Glenn: And there's no way anything of such importance would be on this train. About the only thing that goes to or from the South Eastern Bowl is the fresh water collected there. ... And the ludicrously large amount of rupees paid by the various towns and such on an annual basis... Which it is about time for, come to think of it... But I don't see why the Gerudo would steal that, they contribute to it as well as they need the water as much as anyone else.

JD shot one of the approaching Gerudo in the head, knowing full well that any shot to that area would only render the female warriors temporarily unconscious at best.

JD: Supply and demand. If they steal the money and buy the water themselves, they can then sell it at an inflated price.

Glenn: Of course...

----------

Meanwhile...

Ranger First-Class Mihoshi had seen the strange man approaching the train as she headed toward the cargo cars, and quickly decided to climb on top of the train and confront him.

The man was walking toward the front of the train at a leisurely pace, as if there were nothing unusual about it. As Mihoshi got closer, she quickly noticed that his face was completely devoid of expression. A bit closer, and it also became clear that he was staring straight ahead at nothing. He didn't even seem to notice Mihoshi.

Mihoshi: *raises her gun* Stop where you are!

He continued walking forward.

Mihoshi: I said, freeze! I'm a Martial!

Still walking...

Mihoshi: You are under arrest for the attempted robbery of this train! *pulls a piece of paper out of her pocket with her free hand* Federal Law article 2545, page 937 of the revised conditions: A suspect is entitles to keep silent about any facts...

Still walking...

Mihoshi: ...which may have inadvertent impacts on him/her...

Still walking...

Mihoshi: ...and to demand a lawyer-

The paper was suddenly sliced in two as the man had stopped walking just long enough to swing his large sword in Mihoshi's direction. Mihoshi jumped back a short distance and returned her focus to her gun and the man, and attempted to continue to read him his rights while walking backwards at the same pace he was walking forwards.

Mihoshi: I think I know the rights by heart... Uh, Federal Law article 2546- Oops, was it article 2465 or- or 2243 or-? No, no! Or 246- No, that's not it! I don't know

Suddenly, Mihoshi nearly fell backwards as she had reached the end of car she was on. With no time left to make a decision in, she pointed her gun at the man's head and shot.

...

...

The shot had hit the man in the right temple, where it was deflected away. Unlike the other Gerudo, the man did not fall unconscious upon being shot in the head. In fact, he didn't even flinch. However, also unlike the other Gerudo, the bullet broke the skin. Actually, it tore off a large chunk of it. He didn't bleed, though... there was only white bone underneath. Stopping for a second, the man reached up with his free hand and tore the remaining flesh from his face in one swift motion. All that remained was a skull with hair and a forehead gem. Two large horns quickly sprouted from the top of its head, and orange orbs ignited in its eye sockets.

Naturally, Mihoshi screamed.

The man continued his forward motion, knocking the distraught officer aside as he neared the engine. Mihoshi never hit the ground, however, as the curving tracks and the accelerating train caused her to fly backwards, bowling over Nova. The rogue picked himself up quickly before offering the woman his hand. He shot her a small grin

Rogue: It isn't often that pretty women fall out of the sky, or what have you. Care to come with me and teach that bully a lesson?

Mihoshi: Um... Okay... But, but that guy's not human!

JD and Glenn hadn't been very far behind Nova, and were able to catch up with this momentary stop.

JD: Not Gerudo, you mean.

Mihoshi: Er, yeah! He tore off his face, and these horns sprouted out and he had bright glowing eye sockets! And it was scary!

Glenn: A phantom?

JD: Do they really exist?

Glenn: Apparently. This is most intriguing, but for now let's worry more about taking it out.

JD: And how do we do that?

Glenn: Generally anything will damage a phantom, but we need to weaken it first with an energy blast... Traditionally one simply reflects the phantom's own attacks for that purpose.

OoC Ka'ae: Look! Watchout!

-----------------

Meanwhile, back at Outset Ranch...

Kurima: Alright, girls. I'm sure I've got it right this time. Marin--

Marin: I've got Sis's bow!

Kurima: Good. Alright, Gato! Rise!

Kurima shoved some coal inside of the mettalic bulk's belly and slammed the stomach lid shut. Gato's eyes quickly lit up, and slowly got up to his feet.

Nalon: Didn' expect ya to fix 'im before dinner. Hell, I didn' expect it to be done this week.

Marin: Auntie Kurima's such a smartie!!

Kurima's glasses slightly shimmered as she let out a tiny grin. She tried not to let it go to her head.

Kurima: Maybe we can get him to start doing some chores agai--

Gato: Aaaah, Gonzalez-uh! Ahhh eena soo no ee!

Marin: He's still talkin' crazy gibberish, Auntie.

Kurima: Eh.. I didn't bother trying to figure out what's causing that. He also keeps twitching ever since that bucket of water was splashed onto him..

Marin: There was a lot of pretty sparks!

Nalon: While you figure out how to deal with that moon talk, I'll go an' get--

All of a sudden, a large amount of steam poured out of Gato. He lifted his arms and started to stomp his feet. Nalon quickly grabbed Marin and pulled her inside the house, while Kurima pressed herself against the barn door.

Nalon: What's goin' on?!

Kurima: I don't know! There could be so many things that's doing this... I..

Gato: AAAAAH GONZALEZ-UH!!

Without warning, Gato leapt into the air and started running forward. Luckily, he jumped right over the ranch gate without plowing through it.

Kurima: ....

Nalon: ... Imma get dinner now..

JD reached under his poncho, and pulled out a coiled length of rope.

JD: *turns to Glenn* I assume, being a ranch hand, you know how to use a lasso?

----------

Back at the front of the train...

Kiyone: Halt! I'm warning you!

The phantom had reached the very front edge of the car just before the one with all the coal. Kiyone was standing just behind the conductor, making sure to stay between him and the phantom. She fired several shots at the phantom, but they simply ricocheted off his skull.

Phantom: Heh. Heh. Heh.

Suddenly, a lasso fell around the phantom's horns and tightened, pulling his head backwards a bit. He turned around to see Glenn, Mihoshi, and JD all pulling on the rope. The phantom simply raised its hand at them, and what seemed to be a ball of lightning shot out of it. JD was ready for this, though, and quickly let go of the rope and shot the ball with one of his guns.

The ball reversed direction, but due to the fact that the train was already moving forward at a decent speed, the ball moved relatively slowly toward the phantom, who simply smacked it, causing it to fly back toward our heroes.

JD fired three shots this time, one to reverse the energy ball and two to speed it up, but again, the phantom was able to easily swat it back at him.

Pulling out his other gun, JD fired six shots at the ball, leaving one bullet in each gun. As he did so, he yelled to Glenn and Mihoshi...

JD: Pull the rope!

They did so just in time to make the phantom miss the energy ball. It didn't miss him, however, and he fell over, electricity flowing over him for a moment. JD fired both of his remaining bullets at once, completely shattering the phantom's skull. Its body then slumped over, decaying at an incredible rate, before falling off the train and out of sight.

Glenn: Phew, that takes care of that. Now if only we had some quick and convenient way of taking care of the other Gerudo still on the train.

Just then, the train began to pass under a relatively low-hanging sign reading "Now Approaching: South Eastern Bowl"

JD: Everybody, get down!

There was just enough room for our heroes, now laying on their stomachs, to pass underneath the sign. However, any straggling thieves quickly found themselves smacking into it, and then the desert floor. Also Nova, because he was OTed.

JD stood back up, swatted some dust off of his poncho, and looked back at where Nova had previously been standing.

JD: Meh.

As soon as the passengers got their bearings, they applauded for their heroes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The train was soon nearing its destination, and was already slowing down. In just a few minutes, the train will come to a halt. Meanwhile, one of the stewardesses decided to hand everyone on the train free drinks to bring down the level of tension (if any left).
The stewardess still hasn't opened her eyes for anything, yet she's not having any trouble...
Stewardess: Oh my, that was quite something, wasn't it? I'm so glad we had folk like them aboard the train.
JD: Well, now that that's taken care of...
JD began to head back toward the storage car.
Kiyone: Hold it! Just who are you?
JD: Just a wandering adventurer and a ranch hand.
Kiyone: And your names?
Glenn: I'm Glenn. Glenn Hawking.
JD was staring off at the slightly moving horizon.
JD: My name is... JD. Just... JD.
Kiyone: And what-
JD didn't let her finish her question, he just began to walk away.
Kiyone: Hey! Is he always that rude?
Glenn: Hard to say, I haven't even known him for a day yet. Well, seeya!
Glenn ran to catch up with JD. Kiyone yelled for him to stop, as she still had questions to ask, but he couldn't hear her over the sound of the train.
The train had finally reached its destination, and came to a quiet halt. Looking out a window, one would see basically nothing but the train station and a huge rock formation that looked like an upside down mountain.
Stewardess: Oh my..
The sewardess still has not opened her eyes, but she seemed to do just fine. She was standing by a window, noticing unusual cactus-like creatures wearing sombreros approaching the front of the train. It didn't seem like the creatures were going to cause trouble, however.
Stewardess: This is the first time I've been on this route... I've never seen those little creatures before!
Johnathan shuffled around in his seat, considering getting up and edging Glenn more towards the conclusion of this little escapade, in order to remove themselves from what seemed like a hostile area. Miss Hikari was still in trouble, needless to say. He pushed his spectacles up his nose, and lay in a rout of indecision. He shifted his brimless hat about on his head, contemplated the emergence of these new strangers who had helped to save the train, and finally snapped at the thought of having to listen to Glenn chattering to yet another, nay indeed this time a pair of, random strangers that they had met through extreme circimstances. Would the madness ever end?
The quiet farmhand shoved himself into a standing position, leaned out of the side of his boxcar (conveniently located near where Glenn and JD were heading), and beckoned to Glenn to make haste and continue their journey.
Johnathan: "Come, Master Glenn. There is precious little time for chatter. We have a job that requires our attention, and there will be opportunities to see the mystery of our local rock formations at a later date."
Glenn or no Glenn, Johnathan's resolve led him to the front of the cart, where he promptly deboarded and came about face to face with the strange, cactuarian creatures.
JD: Well, we've stopped conviniently close to the cattle car, at any rate.
And with that, JD jumped off the train rather nonchalantly and entered the livestock compartment, exiting a moment later with Zig in tow.
Glenn: Bah.
Glenn slowly approached the edge of the car's roof and peered over so as to make sure he wouldn't land on anybody before jumping off and hitting the ground with a slight "Umph."
Glenn: Here's hoping the Koktari already have some ghoma spawn tail handy >_>;
A nearby cactus creature jumped at the mention of a gohma spawn. It seemed to have quivered for a moment before running off to join the other Koktari.
There was a bit of a commotion going on outside of the front of the train. There was also a bit of arguing going on, with Mihoshi standing between the train conductor, a man in a suit, and the koktari, trying to calm both parties down.
Johnathan: "Oh, my..."
He was surrounded by them. They weren't quite a throng, or even a group, more a small detachment. A welcoming party? Maybe. But they were walking cacti. He hadn't seen anything like it before. Perhaps they only grew (were born? Who knew...) in these parts. In any case, Johnathan rarely left the ranch, and it was a good occasion to him when he found something new to observe. He leaned in close to one that had not yet joined its others.
