Sidenote: Alright.. this story.. well, this is the third rebirth. Why have I been reincarnating this story so much? One, it's just what the Story Forum needs (think of it as a healthy serving of Danicess Soup). Also, It hasn't gotten far each time, and there's usually some event that kinda.. just kills the momentum in the story. But this time, we're gonna do it right, darnit!

Setting: The time.. some distant era. The past? Maybe. The future? Who knows. One thing that matters is that it's prime time for gunslingers, injuns, and all that "wild west" jazz.

Rules: Eh, I don't wanna be restricting. I just want everyone to have fun with this. If I have to, I'll yank your chain, however. I've come up with a "world" for roaming but still free for imaginations to make up what else can go there. And don't worry too much about getting out of hand or whatever. I'll figure out someway to fix matters, or just let it go if it works nicely. *nod nod*

----------------------------------------

It was another scorcher in Kakariko Gulch. Anyone who had any sense knew to stay under some shade. Those who had business to take care of without the comfort of a tall building's shadow suffered the wrath of the intense sun.

It was rather obvious that Hikari didn't care about the heat as she fastened another strap on a carriage while wearing a long sleeved, blue jacket. It was another successful milk delivery from the Outset Ranch. It was the only place for milk, so anyone with bones that are not yet rotten in this God forsaken town was more than grateful for the enriched calcium delivery.

Hikari pulled her ten gallon hat off her beautiful, crimson hair and wiped the sweat off her forehead with her right forearm.

Hikari: Hey. I'm gonna head to the saloon and get me a drink. If you're gonna stay out here, try not to get into any trouble, ya hear?

The driver of the carriage simply gave a hand gesture.

Hikari turned around and started walking, with her sunflower colored skirt flowing behind her. Her leather boots gave off a soft clunk on the wooden sidewalk as she stepped up to the saloon doors. As she pushed through the doors, her nose was greeted to a mixture of alcohol, 'fragrant' manly sweat, and tabacco.

The saloon was now filled with the sound of jingling spurs from Hikari's boots as everyone became quiet. There were all sorts of fashions inside. Ponchos, jeans, sombreros, fedoras, trenchcoats, khakis. Most of those fashions had scruffy, carved up visages wearing them.

The red haired girl stepped up to the counter and rested her left elbow.

Hikari: Chateau Romani, on the rocks. Yeah, I know I just delivered this stuff.

Her eyes wandered around the room. Everyone slowly went back to their conversations, gambling or oogling at the blonde saloon girl on the stage.

Johnathan: "I sincerely hope she is not going to be too long..."

Johnathan sat outside the bar, waiting for Hikari to return. He'd been hired to help transport the milk shipment as a last-ditch effort to get himself something to drink besides hot, sticky desert water and a little bit of cash to boot. In any case, it was his job to keep the expedition supplied with fresh water daily. Not too hard in the humidity, but still. A desert.

He sighed. It wasn't often that you saw a gunslinger without a gun or even a properly-fastened duster. Three weeks, he thought. Since he had gotten a meal last, of course. This job was really all that was keeping him fed currently. Water was fine and dandy, he had water all set, which was more than could be said for most desert people, but it was the food part that bothered him most. Rations, of course, were like generous meals to him. Very generous meals. Better than sucking the bone marrow out of kangaroo rats, anyway.

He hung sideways and upside down off one of the cart's rails, his face just out of the sun's reach.

His stomach growled.

"I am getting quite hungry..."

A short distance down the bar, another figure was enjoying some refreshment, though the contents of the glass were certainly not milk. A dark hooded cloak hid most of the person's body, with only their eyes and their legs from the knees down visible. Most of their visible legs were covered by tall leather boots. One could guess, from the way the figure sat with its legs crossed, and maybe from its eyes, that it was a woman. However, the eyes made it clear that it was no ordinary woman. No, this woman had seen her fair share of fighting over the years, and was most likely a force to be reckoned with. After emptying her glass, she pulled a photograph out from underneath her cloak with a gloved hand, and held it so that the bartender could see it, though nobody else could.

???: Have you seen this woman around?

Bartender: *looks at the photo* Heh, I'd remember a lady like that. She a friend o' yours or somethin'?

However, the woman didn't respond. She had already stood up and headed out the door, tossing a blue rupee to the bartender over her shoulder on the way.

----------

Meanwhile, back at the carriage...

Glenn, the driver and general ranch-hand sighed in response to Jonathan's comments.

Glenn: I wish she wouldn't go off by herself at all, but there's no way either of us could have talked her out of it. *looks around* Kakariko Gulch... You shall never find a more retched hive of scum and villainy. We should be cautious...

However, Glenn was interrupted as a cloaked figure rode past him on a scruffy-looking beige horse with red eyes and what appeared to be a yellow jewel embedded in its forehead. Once they had disappeared from site, Glenn sighed once again and stepped off the carriage.

Glenn: Screw it, I'm going to follow her. You can stay here and guard the carriage if you want, but there shouldn't be much trouble now that it's empty.

All bars, all saloons, all taverns, any place where you could get drunk, they always had that one obnoxiously loud drunk, to poor to afford to drink, but somehow they always managed to get a drink.

Drunk: "Thans for the drink ma'am!!"

The drunk was sitting at the bar, his arm around a woman's shoulder who was unfortunate to be next to him.

Woman: "Hands off."

The woman pushed his arm away. She had rather light clothes on and looked like she was from a desert, not from around here.

Drunk: "Yeah, I used to be the greatest guy to ever be a guy 'round ere! Tha was a loooong time ago though..."

Woman: "I bought you a drink so you'd leave me along, not tell me your life story!"

The drunk didn't seem to pay attention.

Drunk: "I was the greatest Ms. Nijote! No 'un had ever not heard o' the great Star Striker... Faster than a bullet with my sword!"

Star put his arm around Nijote again and leaned over and kept talking, Nijote plugged her nose to escape his reeking breath.

Star: "Best there ever was, then I was challenged... by a young kid. I got 'im in the gut I did... and I left him to die in a pool of his own blood... I lost my nerve and everyday I feared I'd be the one in a pool of my own blood."

Star had gotten much quiter and could form full thoughts.

Star: "Eventually I just stopped though... I sold my sword and stopped... Now I have to beg for booze..."

Star passed out, slamming his head into the bar. Nijote flipped the bartender a coin and he brought her a drink. She pushed Star off her and got up and walked for the door. The only thing she could think of was "I knew I shouldn't have asked him if he needed help".

Johnathan dropped from his perch onto his hands, and from his hands onto his feet.

Johnathan: "I suppose you are correct. Some refreshment aside from water would serve me well."

He strode into the bar, nonchalantly dodged a whiskey bottle that happened to be flying at his head, and sat down next to Hikari, ordering from the bartender. He laid a coin down on the bar, a small stipend from his advance pay.

"Apple juice, my good man. Straight up. Stirred, not shaken."

Glenn sat on down Hikari's other side. Thankfully with her blocked in like this it would be difficult for any typical down-on-their-luck bar patrons to try and weasel their way into a job. Glenn probably would have ordered a drink himself, but he knew he had better not waste his money on such things. He sighed once again, looking down at the surface of the bar. Now that he was inside the saloon, where all the ruffians were, he wished he had stayed outside with the carriage. Thankfully, he thought, his appearance made it fairly clear he didn't have much to steal. His green shirt was torn in a couple places, and his yellowed work pants were likewise dirty and worn. His brown boots were in fairly decent shape, but only because they were a little newer than the rest of his outfit. He turned and eyed Hikari's glass.

Glenn: You know what the others would say if they saw you drinkin' that.

Star: "Hey buddy..."

Star was lookng at Johnathan with the side of his head against the bar. He'd apparently woken up.

Star: "You should buy me a drink..."

Nijote stepped outside of the saloon and took a look at the carriages.

Nijote: "Oh? A milk carriage... I wonder if this is my target's carriage..."

Nijote spoke quietly to herself, noticing those around. She took out a small knife and pricked her finger, as she walked past the carriage, she flicked her finger at it, a small drop of blood landed on the back and she continued walking, her eyes peeled for a placee to keep watch.

Johnathan: "That she is a little too young for such strong stuff? It is only a glass of milk, Glenn."

He glanced over at Star and returned to his glass, knowing this wasn't about to end peacefully. He murmured a bit...

"I would not know what to order you, my good man. I do not drink, myself. Please, let me enjoy my juice..."

Glenn: It is not "only a glass of milk," it's Chateau Romani. It has certain... effects on a person. Including an increased flow of mana, increased energy, hightened reflexes... Ugh, I'm practically quoting the sales pitch... which I know you've already heard. How in Nayru's name can you forget this stuff?

A mischevious grin ran across Hikari's face.

Hikari: You boys got worried without my protection out there?

"Hey! Shrub! Get me more booze, or that mouth of yers ain't gonna be the only gapin' hole in ya."

A strange sound came out of a tiny wooden creature as it scurried between the tables. It nearly ran into some meaty looking thugs on its way back to the counter.

"Leave that poor Deku Shrub alone, or I won't dance anymore."

"Ah, we're sorry, Miss Huang. Just keep lookin' purty and keep dancin'."

This level of politeness was quite rare in this town. However, since it was the popular saloon girl, Mitra, it was a different case.

Hikari: ... Don't tell the girls I've been drinkin', please.

A man hiccuped nearby Star. He wore an unusual tacky getup, with a frilled collar. His eyes were glazed over, and his mustache was drenched with milk.

Man: ..... Do you ever get tipsy on milk-hic?

Star was now looking at the man.

Star: "You can't get tipys off of milk, but you sure can get wasted with whisky. So much you don't even have to remember stuff if you don't want to. You should drink some with me."

OOC: It's like some kind of script... Or Deja Vu. A change in the system.

Johnathan: "Hrm... It looks like your drink is getting a little too warm."

He leaned over to Hikari's glass and removed a glove from his hand. The moment he touched her glass, it cooled immensely, and the half-melted ice cubes inside of it reformed themselves as though they were just taken from a freezer. It wouldn't be long until they were melted again, with this heat.

He shuffled around in his barstool and watched Star try to convince the drowning milk-stud to buy him some whiskey. Eventually, his gaze shifted to the dancer on stage, and the exchange that took place between the Deku Scrub and the burly drunk.

"It really is a shame. It seems in every washed-up, dingy hole that I have had the displeasure of crossing there is always one wholesome young woman that is exploited because of her beauty and charm. Well, only one thing to be done about it."

Johnathan stared at the oglers. He snapped his fingers after a few moments of concentration, and smirked. In a few minutes, those sweaty men wouldn't be so sweaty, but they'd have a host of new problems to worry about... Like how they were going to relieve themselves.

Star stopped asking for a drink when Johnathan used his power the first time. When he used it a second time he motioned to the bartender.

Star: "I need some water and some crackers."

The bartender looked surprised, but did what Star asked.

OoC Hikari: It's gonna be all script-like and deja vu-y until someone throws a monkey wrench to change the flow of things... that or we get far enough. ;

------------------------

Hikari: Didn't need ya to be remindin' me of your parlor tricks, Johnny.

She was a bit tired of Johnathan's constant reminder of his abilities. Then again, it might've been she was envious that he was able to manifest his mana into something while she couldn't.

The music had reached a stopping point. It was time for the dancer and pianst to take a break. Some of the patrons finally realized Johnathan's little trick.

"What in tarnation.."

Hikari took another sip, and then realized that she didn't hear anymore music. She immediately tried to swallow what was left of her drink. Of course, the brand new ice cubes made it difficult.

Mitra: Hikari! Johnathan! Glenn!

A woman, taller than Hikari, but still shorter than Glenn, lunged at the Hikari and Johnathan. Mitra hugged both Hikari and Johnathan at the same time. Hikari's drink was almost forced back out of her throat.

Hikari: *strained* Fancy meetin' you, Mitra.

In a blurr of flashy clothes, and a few feathers from the dress, Mitra glomped Glenn. She squeezed Glenn harder than she did with the other two.

Hikari: *cough cough* You darn near made me lose mah drink, Mitra.

Mitra: I'm just happy to see you guys

Star got up after drinking the water and eating the crackers. He grabbed Johnathan by the shoulder, his grip would've crushed a normal man's shoulder.

Star: "Step outside with me..."

Star's eyes were blood shot as he walked out of the bar. Nijote saw him from her vantage point on the second story of someones house. She saw him put his hand on the ground and drag up a sword.

Nijote: "If a fight starts I might not be able to find out who my target is... or he could kill my target..."

It took a moment for Mitra to pry her own self away from Glenn. She let out a giggle with a faint, cherry color on her cheeks.

Mitra: Oh ho ho.. It's just another graaand day. Infact, today's the first day in a while withoutta fight!

Hikari noticed she didn't finish her drink, and so she took a sip. Her golden eyes shimmered as she felt the mana in her body become riled up. She wouldn't mind being able to take advantage of Chateau Romani's magic enhancing cabilities...

Another sip as taken.

She wasn't sure if she should care.

Hikari: I reckon its too early to be sayin' that.

She tilts her head over in the saloon door's way.

Hikari: That fella seem like he's gonna start somethin' with Johnny, here.

Meanwhile a dark individual sat in the corner of the bar, watching the group at the bar. Clad in a dingy cloak, his well-cropped dirty blonde hair and clean face betrayed his guise as a drifter. His demeanor was unpleasant, but he enjoyed a chuckle at the antics of the men who had fled from the area around the stage. The spell had hit him too, but was quickly countered. Amused by it, he decided there was no need to engage Johnathan over it, and sat back and took another sip of his booze. They really were simple parlor tricks, but he could tell they were just the base of a more impressive power. He knew something was going to go down here today, his sources had told him as much. How these folks would fit in, though, he wasn't sure. For now, he would sit back and wait.
