| A quick pseudo-search (AKA going through all pages of this forum, wielding CTRL+F) yielded this and that topic, both of which you might find interesting. I also remember there was someone in the last board who hacked in new items. One that sticks out in my mind is an item which turned Mario's palette gray, allowed him to avoid enemies, and allowed him to walk on lava. I don't know where that ended up, though.
EDIT: Found something on the old board. Right here. EDIT 2: Another bit on the old board can be found here. EDIT 3 and 4: Boom baby! Found the afformented hack.
