| It's been a big topic in my dorm lately, us being a brotherhood and all, and it's come to my attention that pornography is actually a pretty big problem in our society today.
I guess I just don't realize how bad because I've never looked it up. Does that sound weird? I mean, I'm almost 19, in college, etc. My little brother in high school has a problem with porn. But, seriously, I kid you not, (and I know this is weird) naked girls turn me OFF. I want to look at naked women about as much as I want to look at naked men--which is not at all. I mean, it's not that I cry out in terror at the site of a naked person, it just doesn't arouse me at all to see a naked women, and does the opposite for some reason. Anyway, I'm just sort of wondering how often people do look pornography. Obviously, this is about honesty. You don't have to vote, so please be honest if you do. I'm rather curious about this, as it's something I don't understand. |

| Oh. My 'brotherhood' isn't about bragging. We're in a Christian community, and the guys here are really open, honest, and humble about things. (not to say it's perfect in the least around here, but...) The guys here aren't happy if they've had sex, they're ashamed.
And by the way, contrary to what my dad might think, no, I'm not gay. I'll admit, I seem to think like a girl when it comes to dating, etc., but I'm most definitely straight. Actually, even girls in a bikini don't really excite me. It depends on how skimpy the bathing suit is. When it's to the point where they may as well be naked, it's kind of disgusting to me. |

| Um...See, that's the thing: I don't care about sex. I'm not interested in sticking my penis into another human being. At least not right now. Gonna wait until I find one I really care about and whom I want to start a family with. Guess I'm 'old-fashioned' in that respect.
Or maybe it's that I respect women more thab my penis. Porn is a 'problem' because it's like smoking. It's an addiction that isn't entirely healthy. I mean, no it's not gonna ruin your lungs. But I dunno. It may ruin your respect toward women (or men) on a sexual level. Kind of like how if your parents swear, you swear more often than you would. But in a religious context, porn is bad because it promotes lust, and lust is bad. But I just sorta think it's disgusting and sad that pictures of naked women have become a pass time for many guys. *shrug* Just how I feel about it. My little brother looking up porn and printing it out and hiding it under his pillow..see, that's a problem to me. |

He's either just hit puberty and discovering sex might be pretty cool, or he's just hit full swing (about fifteen...I find this to be the more likely case) and is also getting bolder and more rebellious. He wants the porn, but he doesnt want to get caught. So he gets it, prints it so he can keep it, deletes it from the computer and hides it so he doesnt get caught. Part shame, part fear, all hormones. If it really bugs you, and youre more than a year or two older than him (even three is a little iffy...) and he respects you at all....you might want to sit down with him. I wouldnt rat him out, that could crush your relationship. But just (gently) probe him about how he feels towards women, make sure he's not turning into an asshole...that sorta thing. If you want to give him the whole "Porn and sex are bad, mmkay?" thing...thats up to you. Damnit. I didnt want this one to become a long rant. Oh well....sorry about that. |

I understand what you're saying. I suppose I should clarify: I brought up religion because I'm going to a very Christian college, and so religion is on everyone's minds. I'm not particularly religious. I mean, yea, I'm a Christian, and I pray once in a while, I go to church, but it doesn't control who I am or what I think. I don't think sex is wrong. I just see sex as something more sacred than just getting it on and getting hot, etc. If that's all a guy is interested in, he may as well just masterbate, because that's just physical. To me, sex is something I want to save for that special someone, and give it only to her. Sex is a beautful thing. It's how we create life. Its how we exp And you're very right about the influences parents have on their children. What I was saying is that if a guy starts f5cking girls in high school when he hardly knows them, sex probably isn't going to be something special for him. It's just going to be this materialistic thing. And that could hurt the girls he does it with, because they may think it's special, and he'll think nothing of it. My brother is in 11th grade, and I'm a freshman in college. I don't think it's my place to talk to him because I've never looked up porn, so I don't know how addicting it can be. Besides, my parents found oiut on themselves. That's how I found out. Also, I'm in college now--I don't see my family that much. My parents have things under control. As far as they're concerned, he can look up porn all he wants outside of the house, but they don't want porn in their house, and I think that's a pretty good argument on their behalf. Do bear in mind that my family isn't religious at all, by the way. We live across the street from a church, and none of us go there. But just don't assume I think sex is bad. Just remember that drugs aren't bad, either, until they're abused. And sex can certainly be abused, too. That's all I'm saying. Anyway, thanks for putting some good input into the conversation. Some food for thought. I honestly started this thread more out of curiosity than anything, so some substantial conversation is welcomed. |

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not the female body doesn't turn me on--it does. The female human form does not turn me off. Just...bare-naked, it does. I just find that girls turn me on when they're wearing clothes, and don't when they're not. I know I'm weird, but I don't know why that is. It's not that I go, "Oh, my GOODNESS! NEKKID PEOPLE!" and run away. It's just...Meh. And sometimes, ick. But that's just naked people in general. I'm not all that reasonable when it comes to girls. I think I just place the emotional connection on a distinctly different level. I mean, a girl can be attractive, but if she acts like a bitch and a slut, it makes her less attractive to me. Likewise, the girl I like right now isn't as physically attractive as many other girls I know, but somehow, she turns me on more than the rest. It's hard to explain. And my last statement's purpose was to explain that it's not purely physical for me. There is some sort of emotional connection I seem to need in order to really be attracted to a girl. So it wasn't a non-sequitur so much--bitchy girls who I have negative emotions toward turn me off, but one I have positive emotions toward is more likely to turn me on, persay. I also didn't say that naked/porn = bitchy, so please don't misinterpret. I just said that both turn me off somehow. Don't ask why, because I can't tell you as I don't really know. That's just how it is. A smile warms my heart much more than a glare from hell. How are guys sometimes attracted to guys? I have no idea. They just are. If we knew why we were attracted to things we are, then people could simply alter their own sex drives at a whim. But we can't do that, now, can we? If we knew why homosexuals were attracted to the same sex rather than the opposite, then the whole 'gay = evil' argument among bloody Bible-thumpers would be put to rest. | I'm not sure what to vote under, its rather random and it isn't regular. It's not like I put up times every weak that I use for the sole purpose of looking up porn. It's more like... "Hey, I think I'll look up porn, even though I haven't done it in a month!"
However, one thing I don't like about porn is if they're actually fucking. That's not a turn on for some reason. |
