I had heard about it being possible to edit the music through the track editors, but I have yet to find that certain feature in any of the editors at Zophar. I really don't wanna have to break out the hex editor, becuase I'm a really lazy person But anyways, is it possible at all the edit the music through the editors?

(note: I'm not hacking SMK, I'm just playing around with it a bit.....at least until I'm done YIKR )

Thanks in advance
Dan

Impala and myself are also very interested in changing the musics in SMK... We have a composer who can make music (MOD, MID, MP3...). And it sounded like a MOD to SPC converter would be the only possible way for him to make SNES musics for us...
I guess we just have to wait for now (for blackhole or anyone to release some kind of SPC maker)... Our hack isn't ready anyway.

Well, it's probably not that practical, but if you really want to design a 2D Mario Kart hack, you could always try Super Circuit...It's basically the SMK engine, and it uses the Sappy music engine, so you could use Kawa's Sappy 2005 to edit the music.

Just a thought.

From what I hear, Super Circuit has 4 times the track space (256x256 instead of 128x128) as SMK, which is great because 128x128 is too damn small. Only thing is I don't know of any editor... Bouche was working on one a LOOOOONG time ago, that's about it.

I never knew Super Circuit would actually work in the MK editor...hmm. Sounds good, I think I will try it. Gotta get me a Super Circuit ROM though before I do anything.

Thanks again guys

It doesn't work in any of the MK editors. I have no idea where you got that from.

Super Circuit is also much more flexible in that all the data needed for a particular level (minus the music) is stored in one spot for each level, and of course you have up to an entire 32MB to yourself .

I hate to say this, but most of the music in Super Mario Kart is compressed, just like the other data. I searched for the music data one time before, but all I could find were snippets of it. If I remember correctly, the beginning of each song wasn't compressed, but the other parts were.

Well, if musics too hard to find, I won't get too concerned with it. Would be cool to edit though, but if parts are compressed, I won't bother. I'm no hex editing genius, and I don't want to bugger something up.

Thanks for the info guys
