Has anyone heard of this? I've been looking for info on this and all I've found is that it's supposed to come bundled with the Revolution. It's supposed to use the online feature. Does anyone else have any information?

Yeah.

You may be confusing "bundled" with "launch title" which is what it's probably going to be.

Masahiro Sakurai, even though he left Nintendo or whatever, has been contracted for the project.

Full article

Sakurai expects a huge staff to eventually be in place at this office for the development of this Revolution update. "To make a Smash Bros. DX class game, you'd want at the least something on the scale of 50 people," he comments, adding that Nintendo will begin hiring employees for the new office via its website shortly.

The new studio hasn't started completely from scratch, though. Nintendo's HAL Lab development studio, Sakurai's former place of employ, has given Sakurai and his fledging crew full access to the development materials and tools from the development of the GameCube Smash Bros..

You might find it surprising that Nintendo would open a new office just for the development of one game. Sakurai doesn't seem as surprised, adding that the investment is an indication of how much is expected of the title. He also adds that a number of former Smash Bros. staff members reside in Tokyo and have joined up on the project's development, necessitating a Tokyo studio.

Sakurai will continue providing weekly updates on his work to Famitsu, in what appears to be a regular developer journal. We'll be sure and let you know if he shares any tasty new bits of info on Smash Bros. Revolution.

MAYBE YOU GRAB THE REMOTE AND PUNCH PEOPLE WITH YOUR HANDS!

Ok, SSBM did seriously rock. It's probably the best game avaible on Gamecube. Still... there's just not enough information about SSB for Revolution. All we know is that they promised it to be a launch title. I wonder if they would scrap any charcthers, although I doubt it would be ones from orginal SSB they scrap.

I'm wondering if they're going for a similar control setup as before, or will go lolorginal. I wouldn't mind a new control scheme, as long they don't screw it up...

I hope they buff Ness a bit. Keep his quirks, but put him slightly more on the level.

Ness already had his time in the spotlight... Remember the original Smash Bros?

Now, if anyone needs awesomifying, it's Mewtwo.

Actually, they should add Poo. And give him Starstorm. I would play him even if he was overused or hideously gimped

I'm interested, I'll give you that, but I think the inclusion of supermoves would be impressive... Stuff along the lines of calling down an airstrike from Great Fox, or having the entire cast of Fire Emblem attack. Maybe only enabling it when a character got above 100% damage, or something. An equalizer move.

I hope there's also the same degree of single-player immersion and the excessive amount of unlockables that SSBM had. I can't tell you how much fun I had getting all of the trophies, I thought it was a great system, and it made me happy to just look into the trophy room and see that massive pile of trophies everywhere.

New challenges! New characters! Online play! Nintendo can give us more!

All right, I have more to say, but to end this back and forth posting I'm going to summarize a few things and then wait for more discussion.

1. You reminded ME - custom character intros. Yes. I don't know why they took these out of SSBM.

2. I would be surprised if they added more special moves, which they would have to work in Teleport unless they got rid of another move. Besides, lots of folks already have teleports, and who else has PK Thunder? Nobody.

3. Wonder what they'll do with Wavedashing

4. this will be so cool

I think they should add Wario. I mean, come on. They need to add him. Or maybe MetaKnight. That would win so beyond win-level.

This... Would totally ruin the point of Smash Bros. At no point does being ahead or behind give anyone a disadvantage except that those who are behind are closer to losing. If those that are behind but surviving are more able to win than those that are ahead... Then... What would be the point?

Also Zem I really doubt they'd take out wavedashing, since it's not really considered a degenerate move... Anywhere.

My point is, now that they're aware of it as a useable technique, not just an odd footnote in testing, will they just leave it as it is? Make it easier to perform (i.e. make it into more of a built-in move than a byproduct of the physics)? Call people's attention to it? At the very least, if they leave it in in any manner it'll change the way they balance the characters.

Uh oh. Better write Nintendo, quick!!! STOP THEM BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

note: people who can master fast-fingered techniques are going to kick your ass whether they can wavedash or not

Wavedashing is a very useful technique but it's far from the be-all-end-all. If you're of roughly equal skill with your opponent in all other ways and you can wavedash effectively and they can't you'll likely win. But if the skill difference of big enough the better person is always going to win. Now, shffls, those are way more vital.

Well, I don't think Wavedashing wasn't really implented on purpose. So I wouldn't be surprised if it was gone. I don't know if you could call it a glitch or exploit, since it's generally accepted in tournaments apparently. But it's still probably not implented by purpose. Wave-dashing should probably be compared to tricks such as "Run faster with strafing" or "Bunny-jumping!". I never mastered Wavedashing, and well... I probably try to learn it propely whenver I get a own console at my apartment. Then, i'm kind of planning to not get a Gamecube in meanwhile but just wait for revolution. :/

And Zem, when I was playing SSB (despite being a huge SSBM fan, I never played the orginal! before) the custom charcther was a "Woah why did they take this out?" thing. Would be fun if there was some silly randomness on it too as a easter egg, like Mario appearing from a Pokéball.
