| Isn't there a better way of saying someone has passed away than using the word dead?
Anyways, another prominent figure in the civil rights movement has now moved on... should be a reminder that although the U.S. has made progress, there is still more progress that needs to be made. |

Anyway, the so called "Bush+crew" are going to renew it. They realize that if they didn't while they wouldn't have to worry about blacks, they would lose most of the people they already did. Bush won't override it as he won't have to worry about another election, and none of the others could by themselves. Oh, and Neotranssotaku, what do you mean we need more progress? Blacks have their own holidays, their own month, extra funding for colleges(more than us whites), and every single thing that we have. What more progress should be made? Also, I know that a lot of people will disagree with me for this...but what did Martin Luther King do for other people? He was a black, and so was fighting for himself. I personally would be suprised if it was much more than the fact that he was frustrated at what he had. What he did was good, but I fear he is overrated to an extreme. |

I... somehow don't think that the Voting Rights Act would die.  Come on. To do something like that would cause unspeakable harm. Plus only certain parts of it are up for renewal, not the whole act itself. |

| more progress in the sense of race is still a big issue in this country. Progress, to me, is that race no longer is a factor in any type of legislation or debate. Katrina showed that the U.S. still has a long way to go in achieving MLK's dream that one's ethnicity does not factor into any type of decision making (or be used to critique a decision). The race stigma is something that always lurks behind every single significant thing from politics to head coaching positions. | Ironically, racism is caused when it is entered into any decision. If, say, people didna think about it whatsoever and ignored it entirely (Good OR bad), then one could see equality.
But some people break the goodwill by using something as asinine as race to color their decisions, and that's where the government comes in and whacks them over the head with a big stick. Shame she died, but, then again, she was old. Woulda died sooner or later. I just hope the spirit of progress towards racial equality doesn't die. |

Also, why didn't they evacuate? They knew it was coming, and the only reason they didn't is because they waited until the evacuation call to leave, rather than leaving when they knew it was coming. Oh, and blacks still do have more than us whites. This makes it so that we whites are disadvantaged, and the prejudice is more towards us, as you get more. I see no law saying that you have to hire a certain amount of whites in a compnay...but there is one for blacks. |
