03:50'35''| Xkeeper_> well, that was fun
03:50'53''| Xkeeper_> I just spent the last half hour tracking down a single phantom post on Acmlm's Board
03:51'20''| Xkeeper_> even more even
03:51'32''| Xkeeper_> I started 'fixing' the bug (or, so I thought) at 2:45
03:51'35''| Xkeeper_> it's now 3:53
03:52'22''| Xkeeper_> some post got deleted but the refrence didn't
03:52'37''| Xkeeper_> I had to go through the posts one by one to find the mismatch
03:52'45''| Xkeeper_> and that was only after I figured out what was wrong

The DDR thread took you to the wrong page when editing. No problem, I said, it's probably the edit code broken. So I made it use the normal post link code instead (faster, anyway).

That didn't work either. It still did it. So I checked PMA. There were 301 posts, but the board reported 300... I updated the reply count to match. Still broken.

Okay, then, we'll just do some queries to see if there's any oddities in post ID numbers or anything. Nope, nothing strange.

Tried checking the table, ran into an error (2 clients didn't close or were still using table), fixed that. Still no workey on the thread.

Now I was getting a little frustrated.

Okay. So then I just start going through the pages one by one. Turns out it was on page 3, which I learned after backtracking through about half the thread. Ugh.

Set my posts/page to 1 for precision. Tried going through 'pages' 21 through 30... and didn't realize that wasn't correct until I was at 31. I was suposed to be checking 41-60... I am so smart sometimes...

So, check that. Find it to be around #76 (so much for it being under 60...)

PMA still reported a post as #76, and there was no actual post for that ID.... so I delete that, reupdate the thread reply count, and everything's fine.

I swear I'm going to make an admin panel to automatically check for this kind of $&!9 if it ever happens again.

(the sad thing is how obvious it was after I finally figured out what the problem was, as I didn't know exactly why it was screwing up until I hit the post itself... had I known, it would've been a simple query or two to find it)

there was no way this could've been a security threat

and besides, no one ever reads this forum.

I'm just kinda disappointed that I wasted most of my morning ifxing that to the point I ended up staying up the whole night, not being able to sleep (stayed up too late), so meh.
