Any avatar that is not over one of the limits will be left alone (i.e. not resized). Any that is will be resized proportionately until it is under both limits.

I vote 100x100 because at 60x60 you can barely see it if your image has a lot of detail.

(hint: replying and saying what you voted for and why makes a bigger difference)

Personally, I think 60x90 or 60x120 (the former preferred) would be good, simply because I've seen a lot of exceedingly great avatars that use the extra vertical space.

Not to mention it's only an extra 30 pixels, and a lot of the time there's enough extra space to afford it...

I'd say 100x100 or 90x120 so I could use my badass Leisure Town avatar.

90x120 sounds more flexible though, so I am choosing that.

I knew something was missing from the boards, I just couldn't figure out what.

Probably 100x100 or 90x120. The space allowed is a lot nicer than some of the other ones. In addition, this poll is somewhat prejudiced against horizontal avatars, such as the one I had. Ideally, there should be a system where bigger avatars are allowed, but it would have to get approved by a staff member first.

Well, there is more vertical space available than horizontal space, and all of the options here are wider than the old 60 pixels anyway (except the 60x60 itself, of course)

100*100 is, I think, the standard LJ icon size. Seems to work well enough for that, and that way I could have my icon be William Shatner yelling "KHAAAAAAAAAAN!"

So everyone would win.

Seriously though, I'm on 800x600 now and the sidebar is already wider than 100 pixels. One of the 90 or 100 wide ones wouldn't even stretch it a bit.

edit durr 800x600 not the other way around

60x60 is already forced for RPG layout, which I use. I don't want MORE ugly stretching caused by this, and really, there's very little to nothing at all you should be doing with an an avatar that you can't do with 60x60. 60x60, definitely.

I think that maybe... 60x120. Since posts are usually long, this won't affect the way the side looks much...

Even if the posts aren't long, the layouts are usually just the size for an avatar of that size to fit.

Perhaps you didn't see this

edit: do your measurements people
the sidebar is already wider than 100 pixels and generally approaches/exceeds 300 pixels in height. If you're using the RPG layout then you suck ()

If you happened to have an avatar under the limit, it'd be left alone...

I tried pressing for something like this a while back in the staff forums and I was trying to get something like 100x100 or 100xany height.

So...100x100 goes for my vote.

100x100

More detail in pictures.

Personally anything would be better than 60x60.

Well, anything that is decent I mean. And bigger.

I think it should stay as 60x60. Like Alastor said, the RPG layout would have to be fixed to accomodate bigger avatars, unless it was exempt from the main avatar rule. Anyway, mine is 60x60, so whatever is really fine with me. If it's not broke...don't fix it.

There's no point in restricting our decision solely because of the RPG layout, though. If anything, the issue should be fixed on that one particular setup.

By the way, check the Memberlist out now that there are no avatars. Looks a LOT nicer and cleaner, right? Xkeeper, if you have the time, you should make an option to view the memberlist without avatars.
