Before anyone asks if there's a game editor, try doing a bit of research. http://www.zophar.net http://www.romhacking.com http://www.dragoneyestudios.net http://www.cg-games.net are your best chances of getting any editor of any game out there. If those don't have what you're looking for, then try Google. If all else fails, look for hacks of the game you're looking for. If there's no hacks of it, that means there's 99.99% chance that the editor you want does NOT exist. I figured these tips and doing a little search can save the board from getting slaughtered with more "is there a *insert game* editor" threads.

DahrkDaiz I hope you don't mind me pulling this off the archive and posting it here, felt it might need to get up as the old lessons may soon be forgot.

There's actually one thing I've wondered about when it comes to this thread. Personally, I've never asked for an editor, since I've been smart enough to check out various sites first, as well as performing a google research... But when I saw this thread for the first time, when I registered (at the "new" old board), I thought it had something to do with inserting a game into another or something (yeah, I was that stupid). Maybe all those newbies think the same thing that I thought?! I don't really know, but it could be a good idea to come up with a new thread title if the problem continues...

I don't really know. It's a suggestion only.

Well I found A LOT of Data in SMAS, enough to make an editor (level and enemy data for all games, overworld data for SMB3, I'm working on the header data for SMB3 and pointers for the overworld, palettes, 90% of tilesets [still looking {also for palettes}]).
Any tips for building an editor? Any programs? ...Something? ... Anything?

A member on this board, BGNG, was working on an editor for FZero X (I'm on a school computer and the dash key won't work!), but he gave up on it. I really wanted to use that editor because I want to make my own tracks, but I'm sure a lot of other FZero fans wanted it too. I think he was willing to give it to someone for them to take over development, but I'm not good enough for that.

Making editors to racing games can prove to be difficult with the AI.
Just ask the makers of the Super Mario Kart Editor.

They're tracks for time trial mode mostly. You make custom tracks for your own time trial competition tournaments.

Edit: Also, the F-Zero X EK (For N64DD) is an open version of F-Zero X. F-Zero X basically IS F-Zero X EK, only the programmers closed the track editor off. The ROM hacking utility just opens up that section and reconstructs the code.

However, it allows you to find information about programming languages and the tools you'll need to construct your own.

If you're not capable of doing some independent learning and research then why would you be aiming to make an editor in the first place?

Basically, what you'd need to know to make an editor:

-A programming language of some description
-A thorough understanding of your target game
-Patience
-A lot of effort, research and learning
-Patience
-Plenty of time dedicated to the task
-Did I mention patience?

That should be what you need. Google is the way you can find most of those, so don't complain when the answers don't fall into your lap.

There was a beta version of an editor at these boards a few months back, written by Coolman. The download page is down (that's the basic jist from the german ROM hacking wiki, I think)

Use Google. Or MSN Search.

That's all I wanted to know. Saying "Google" is basicly just saying "Wake-Up Sanfransisco! I'm your host Danny Tanner. *Holds up Sock-puppet* And I'm Rebica Doaldson.*Puts down sock puppet*And were reminding you to *I singsong voice* Waaaaaake UP!" but telling people "Google, because *What you said*" is helpful.

Is there a Earthbound title screen editor with the right palette for the screen?
I know TLP does it (when decomped), but it's not the right palette.

TLP doesn't read the game's palletes, and it's savestate import isn't quite right.

I recall that the location that TLP reads palettes from SNES save states is wrong, because it uses a game that doesn't store its palette in the standard SNES palette location. Parasyte released an IPS fix, and you can get it at Gavin's site.

I remember 2 other editors for SMB2, they both had the source code. Would be nice if there was a bugless one made for 2006...
