Lunar IPS seems to be corrupting roms when I try to patch them. The rom I have works (verified good dump) but Lunar IPS corrupts the rom when I try to patch some of the hacks onto it. SMW rom, non interleaved.

If anyone has any other decent IPS patching tools a name would be helpful.

What hack are you trying to play?

If it's not Demo World: TLC, then you can probably just copy the SMW ROM with a new name, the first part (not the .smc extension) being the same as the .ips file. Snes9x and ZSNES both automatically patch ROMs on-the-fly.
For example:
Super Duper Hack.ips - the IPS file
Super Duper Hack.smc - a copy of SMW

If that doesn't work... then you probably don't have a verified perfect SMW ROM.

LIPS is your best bet period. Is this a translation/hack patch? What exactly ARE you trying to patch, as FreeDOS asked?

Super Mario World (U) [!].smc
Any IPS patch in the Super Mario World Hacking forum.

ZSNES will not autopatch the rom at all. I renamed the files to the smc and ips equivalents and have autopatching turned on. I even tried to hardpatch the file with Lunar IPS. It fails when trying to load using ZSNES v1.42. I have even tried many other IPS patches, the file still fails in ZSNES

Try SNES9x. It's worth a shot, at least. ZSNES is randomly uncoopertive at times.

Nothing seems to be working. NSRT even says it is a good rom but the moment I patch it with any IPS files it gets corrupted. Even "soft patching" the rom corrupts it.

so what's NSRT?

I'd recommend downloading GoodSNES from allgoodthings.us (registration required) to actually check your ROM

Or it could be that the person who made the hack used a bad or overdump of SMW.

FreeDOS I already know it is a verified working dump. Here's a link to NSRT by Nach.
http://nsrt.edgeemu.com/forum/portal.php

And I already knew about allgoodthings.us My username is Sephiroth on there.

I also seemed to fix my problem. Since it was a verified good dump it did not have the stupid fuggin 512 byte header that ips patches demand they have.

Really fucking stupid if you ask me. Corrupting (in a sense) a perfectly good rom just because Lunar Magic calls for it. I demand a better SMW editor then.

ZSNES isn't 'randomly' uncooperative. It'll screw up any patch that changes the size of the original ROM, as many SMW hacks do.

I've never used LIPS before. I have a program called IPSWin by ZeroSoft, and it works just fine for me.

At least as far as applying patches. It doesn't make IPS patches, so I'll need another program (probably LIPS) eventually, if I ever end up actually making something distributable.

At any rate, either your ROM is corrupt, or your copy of LIPS is corrupt.
As always, my advice is to redownload both.

Yeah... Lunar Magic has its issues. Nobody cares to make a new editor... I've tried
Like it claims to support SMAS+SMW. I've tried the perfect dump, a few bad dumps, a couple overdumps, and even manually adding 512 bytes of zero to the beginning. Nothing works.

I've never had a problem... running version 1.42 on GNU/Linux (not like the OS should matter, but heh it's ZSNES it might; also some people are dependent on old versions for better multiplayer support, so it might've gotten fixed in 1.42 but not everyone uses that version)

I try and keep up with the latest WIP. Still, ZSNES has a long enough history of problems with automatic IPS patching for anyone to be wary.

If you don't need to make patches of your own, and LIPS doesn't work for you, grab a different program. Hit up Zophar or google IPS patcher.
Hell, use SNESTool if your computer'll run it.

Try opening the rom in a hex editor and change a byte or two, does it still crap out?

In the last post I had made I said I fixed the problem. It was simply because my verified good dump did not conform to Lunar Magic's bugged standards. So everyone's patches wouldn't work on my rom because it didn't have the x200 header. I fixed it now so you can stop posting.
