Sometimes you have to go beyond the limits of feasibility to be cool.

...

Of course, "I imported something from Japan!!" doesn't make you cool. But maybe back in the SNES days it would be fresh enough to work.

If this is a factual report I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I think that the intent behind the DS redesign is to beef up the security against piracy via passmes and such. I mean, my brand new blue DS is probably going to require a passme2 as it is. I have no evidence as of yet, but this is my gut feeling.

In the SNES days, importing was the HEIGHT of cool. Trust me; if you were willing to pay $100+ in Chinatown for a game, you were cool. (And an idiot too since emulation kicked in come the end of high school.)

Not really, sometimes just having the box is really cool.

I admit, I love the documentations and packages the games come in...

Colin, I do not need to import SNES-Controllers to have them in Colour. That's one of the advantages of Europe over the USA. (I have 3 of them...)

Oh, sorry, we were talking about AMERICA. Where is "europe" anyway, the middle east somewhere? Whatever.

It's there, where Japanese landed last ^^

The new DS' hinge looks more sturdy than the old one.. and I need a way to repair that one, as it broke... anyone want a broken Japanese Ds which still works but only the hinge is like, defective?

Sure, I could use a spare DS, even if the hinge is broken.

Also, I got these Mad Catz SNES controllers. Don't recall the name but they were probably the best controller I've ever used. They were just the right size (Nintendo's were a bit small), had L+R on the top and front (great for fighters), and had 2 levels of slowmo and rapid fire when held or always for A, B, X, Y, L and R individually.

I also had this box you plug controllers into, and plug into the console, that did more cool things. It also had rapid fire for any button, slowmo, auto-hold, and macros. You could program each button to activate a button combo. Even had some built in for popular fighters.

So yeah, I had the 1337est SNES control setup ever.

I had a Madcatz controller burn out on me because it tried to Autofire the Autofire button .__.;; no, that probably shouldn't do anything, but whoever took a hot glue gun and tried to call that peice of work in the case a 'circuit' probably wasn't expecting anyone to do that, either. My experiences, the least reliable accessories there. They did make some okay 3rd party Gameboy Color things, though, but overall, I'd go 1st party all the way.

Just let me get a spare DS before... M&L PiT is funny...

But how would a SNES-Special edition look like? Would there be three of them?

And about SNES-Controllers: The US may had only those two pink shades, but two buttons where konkav (or the other way around).

Yes. That's my kind of SNES controller. THAT'S WHAT I WAS RAISED ON.

A and B were dark and convex; X and Y light and concave. And it was more purple than pink.

@Hyperhacker:

That gamepad sounds like an Ascii pad, or something similar. I had an Ascii Pad for SNES but I burnt out the A button's connection by leaving the autofire on for hours while powerleveling to ** in the Black Omen in Chrono Trigger. Basically had it preset to use Falcon Hit with Gold Studs equipped, and got 2300 exp a pop for this one battle. all I had to do was run back and forth to the screen to get the battle to reappear. I can't say I was surprised that it burnt out .

Must have been a different model. Mine had 6 autofire switches (one per button) and another for slowmo. May not have even been Mad Catz actually, my memory's fuzzy. Hell, I'll go look for it to take a pic.

I'm all for the revamped DS with the awesome Revolution style to it, but...

I'm more interested in functionality. The shoulder buttons on that thing are simply not fun. Playing Mario Kart DS hurts your hands after a while. There's gotta be a way around that, like putting the buttons on the back, or something.

That, and I really wish there was a way to replace DS screen conveniently. Mine's getting kind of scratched up.

Madcatz makes some pretty cool stuff. I can't wait to see what they do with some of the next-gen things.

Wow... I thought you were generalizing when you said MadCatz earlier. (i.e. MadCatz as a substitute word for third party). I didn't even know MadCatz was in business back then, as I never saw that model at EB or any other gamestore for that matter.

My brother already has DS, but it would be cool to have 2 in the house so Im thinking of buying the DS Lite. Im not positive just yet though, honestly the DS doesnt have too many good games. I also want a PSP, but that has even less good games.

The Navy Blue one is MUCH nicer... seriously, that thing is SLICK. Ice Blue's OK as well but I really hope Navy makes its way over here.

I like the design. Apparently the Japanese do as well as they did a recent poll with around 30% or so (off the top of my head) of those polled saying they already own a DS but are going to buy this as well.

That looks awesome. Even though it looks like a DS mated with an iPod.

I still say Nintendo needs to make more translucent consoles/handhelds though.
