Way to pay attention to the price. It's going to be ~$145 USD over there, which usually means we're getting it a bit cheaper (Ir's ~16000 got the Lite, and the original DS went for 19800 yen). It's possible it'll still sell at $130.

Honestly, I haev a second DS I could sell to get this, plus a gift card, so I could nab this PLUS Metroid Prime Hunters. It would be most awesome.

Clock: So it's required to upgrade systems now?

I like the look of the Lite but I'm also comfortable with the feel of my DS so I don't need to upgrade or anything. The option's there and lots of people do like it or at least haven't started hating on it based on what I've seen reaction-wise.

That was a joke about how the original DS had a power button right above the D-Pad, which for people with larger hands is often misspressed despite the half second hold time. That or people make the mistake of pressing it instaid of start, like if the game is held upside down for strange game reasons or for fun, or just a quick "whoops wrong OH CRAP I TURNED IT OFF".

Clock: Tell me, do you see many people shelling out more money for each new i-Pod? What about each new Gameboy series color? This is just a new version of the DS with an i-Pod white color scheme, even smaller size(with same sized screens), and brightness control tossed in, along with a repositioned mic and the power button moved god knows where. Maybe they put it in one of those little glass cases you got to open, then turn a switch down for five seconds to turn it on/off, like in robot anime things.

I wonder where the power button is, actually... my guess is on the top or side of the unit, and maybe it's a sliding switch instead of a button now. Makes perfect sense, actually.

Seriously, the Dreamcast had so many good games, and great emulation support, and awsome graphics. I mean the Dreamcast has graphics comparable to the PS2. I am still glad I own it. Use it for Nintendo emulation, Gameboy color emulation, and the occasional Sonic Shuffle (YES! This game is NOT THAT BAD!) or other crap I own.

Back to topic, I for one, am not buying another DS. I dont care about the....Wait. Yes I do. I do care about the little bugs under my screen crawling around. HORRAY FOR NEW DS! Im getting one now that I just remembered about those damn creepy crawlies under my screen!

A bit of info from a local Nintendo rep:

- The Power switch will be on the side, ala the GBA: SP. Yes, a switch.
- While it's coming out in Japan on March 2nd, it'll be announced here at E3. Sucks, I know.

Well, you have to remember, Nintendo is based in and primarily caters to Japan, and Japanese videogame customers have very different wants and needs than us. Also, unless Nintendo specifically left features out of an initial release of a console in order to make people spend more money on the newer model, no one's forcing you to buy it. Think of it like this -- the release of the DS Lite just gives people who don't own a DS yet more options to choose from.

Alastor the Stylish: The Dreamcast is the best system.

Regardeless, Nintendo came up with the (clockwise from top) XABY setup, and Sega merely copied that for their Dreamcast. They were worried that they might get into a legal tassle if they directly coppied that setup, so they rearranged the XABY to YBAX. Also note that the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo (the Super Famicom) had it's four face buttons colored (clockwise from top in blue, red, yellow, green). Sega again copied directly from Nintendo, merely changing that order of colors to green, blue, red, yellow.

As an oldschooler, I have to go with the original, not the ripoff. Besides, if Nintendo came up with XABY and Sega copied them, why the heck would Nintendo then change their original formula to the copied version? I am dissapointed that they dropped the four colors thing, but they're up against the "cool" looking PSP, so they had to sacrifice a lot for the sake of percieved coolness.

They should just make it so you can switch them or rotate the whole assembly for GBA games.

I'm curious about it actually using a power switch... that means the system can't be turned off by software, which some things do actually use.

Oh, it could be. When computers shut down, you have to (at least in my old PC's case) flick the power off and on. That could be how Nintendo does it.

(Or they can just force an actual reboot.)

Interestingly, if you open up a US NES controller, the buttons are labelled r,b,y, and g.

I saw a crazy PS2 controller like that the other day. Not only could you rotate the stuff, but you could move where they were on the controller. They had the D-pad, both analog sticks, and the face buttons in little pod-like things you could pop out and switch around. Interesting concept.

Remember when everyone thought a control setup like that would be what the Revolution used?

I always lamented the fact that we got the drab controller as opposed to the colorful Japanese/European one.

Ailure: That's not a Super Famicom Controller, that's a European SNES console.

SFC Console/Controller
PAL Console/Controller
They're nearly identical, I just couldn't find a pic of the SFC at the moment I made that post. Besides, in case you didn't notice, my point was about the color and layout of the XABY buttons, which is identical between the two; the minute nuances were negligable to my .

Colin Mochrie: I always lamented the fact that we got the drab controller as opposed to the colorful Japanese/European one.

If memory serves me, the SFC/PAL controllers work with the NTSC console, and vice-versa. What always confused me back when the SNES was new (this was far before I had internet access or knew anything about videogaming in Japan) was the four-colored symbol that was the logo of the SNES (like the GC has the cube logo and the N64 has the N logo), because I saw that logo on a couple of SNES accessories in stores and didn't know what it was. I actually thought it was the logo of another console or manufacturer for awhile. Hmm, I wonder if I'd be able to color in my XABY buttons on my DS...

A SNES-style DS would be like, the Famicom and NES-Special Editions of the GBA SP.

Now you just gave them an idea, Imoto.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if controllers themselves were compatible with all regions, but it's not too feasible to go out and search for a foreign SNES controller just to be cool.
