I got this neat idea looking around on various sites, especially a sonic hacking site, where there was an editor that used templates to define data, well, I figured since theres usually a lot of data for text, and to many games for 1 person to do, why not make a text editor that you specify the rom, and a template file to load the data for the text..

so basically what ive come up with is this,

INI file template system, stores author data, offsets, text length, and table information allowing up to 4 tables, because various games I can think of use more then 1 table(SMB3 and most of the NES megaman games) ive got some of the app programmed already, but I want to know what you guys would like to see in it.

Currently I have the following planned.

-Basic layout like my other text editors, but with specific changes for the template system.
-Built in simple template editor, so you dont have to switch apps to make sure the template works correctly.
-INI File format for Template files

I was thinking, but not sure about Encryption to stop people from editing your templates, it sucks when someone steals your work..but im not sure if it would be used or not, and if it was it would present problems for people who didnt keep a backup(although I could make it auto backup before you encrypt the file.) and it may also fuck up the API INI loading routine since im not sure it would handle the encrypted file right, although I could decrypt it before its loaded, store the data somewhere and then load the file.

Anything else anyone can think of?

Any utility is a good thing in my opinion, but I don't think you really need to add encryption support. It could be easily reverse-engineered (not the actual files, but the offsets), and I don't think it really benefits anyone to have data encrypted/locked/whatever.

yeah, thats what I was thinking, and it would add some time to development anyway, which if no one is going to use, then there is no point...although I wasnt really thinking about offsets being reverse engineered so easily, as some people taking a template and just changing the author info in it and claiming they did one also. But yeah, I dont think ill add support for it unless it becomes a problem, or enough people want it.
