| I am extremely turned off and offended by smoking. I don't want to spend my life with someone who smokes. I don't think there's anything sexy about it. In fact, I would stop being in a relationship with someone if I found out that they smoked. I consider it a stupid thing to do.
Please note that the contents of my posts represent my opinions, and it is quite frankly impossible to alter them (the opinions, that is) with words on a message board. Thank you. Oh, and you could replace smoking with drinking and it would still be true. Or with smoking anything else, for that matter. Also, because I don't care whether or not the topic is locked, and because there's no good reason for it to be said again: Cigarettes can kill you. People have argued against this to me. And that's really sad. |

| As to whether cigarettes can kill you or not, i've heard many smokers say it is not harmful. This is only a defense mechanism they use to give themselves permission to smoke and feel better about it. Virtually every doctor in the country will tell you not to smoke for about several dozen reasons. All research i've ever seen on the subject clearly shows harm being done. The tobacco companies love people to believe they are'nt being harmed, but it just isn't true (Why they dont invent a harmless less addictive cigarette with all their billions of dollars is beyond me).
People are genetically different though, so the actual damage caused will vary from person to person. An occasional person will live to 90 even if they smoke, but they are the exception, not the rule. But even in moderation cigarettes are harmful in ways that most other things are not. As an added bonus they are also harmful to the people around you. In my own life experience i've seen 3 people get emphysema from smoking, i've never known 1 person to get that who did'nt smoke (not that their could'nt be someone somewhere). My uncle died in his early 40s from cancer, and he was a heavy smoker who got hooked at around 13 years old. He tried repeatedly to quit but just could'nt get off it. His sister was a moderate smoker and she got a brain tumor in her late 40s, but managed to survive it. Their father did'nt smoke, he lived to be 98, and then only died due to a car accident. There have been no other cases of cancer anywhere in my family tree that i'm aware of other than those two. What a surprise, they were the smokers. So, due to the clinical data saying smoking is harmful, and my own life experience suggesting it is harmful, i'm going to go with it being harmful. Seems like a safe bet to me. |

Yeah, it depends on the person how badly smoking affects you. My grandpa died at age 50 due to lung cancer, and my mom (HOW she brought herself to smoke when her dad died from it, I have no idea) has smoked for over 30 years and it hardly shows. Her voice isn't different, she doesn't cough excessively, she doesn't have cancer, the only obvious sign is yellow teeth and fingers. But she made a new years resolution to quit, and thus far she hasn't had a single smoke...  |

| It depends on how much they smoke. Going through a buttload of cigarettes on a regular basis is a turnoff. That much smoke makes the person smell smoky, taste like an ashtray, and age prematurely. I don't really care when the bowling alley smells like smoke, but I wouldn't want to be around that smell all the time. As for occasional smoking, I don't care one way or the other, partially because I enjoy a clove cigarette or some hookah tobacco every once in a while myself. I highly doubt that tobacco is ZOMG TEH EVIL in such small amounts. It's like the difference between getting a very light seasonal tan and frying yourself to the color of wood paneling year round. The very light tan still damages your skin, but it's a negligible amount of damage. | |||

1 or infinite cigarettes, cigarette smoke is the most unsexy thing in the world. I hate it, and the smell of it wants me to hit the smoker. 
Maybe I just have a sensetive nose... I dunno. |

Please, don't smoke at the entrance of a big mall. Stand further away. Or please, don't smoke in the stairshall or whatever it's called. It's the last smell I want to smell when I get home tired...  |

| Ah, here it's illegal to smoke at stores like that. Besides it would scare away consuments as we don't really have that many smokers here.

And you come to a message board to post your opinions on topics while disregarding and prematurely invalidating everyone elses without even first hearing what they have to say? Brilliant. Also: By saying "with words on a message board" makes it sound like someone may have a chance at changing your opinion through other means. I do not understand this. Are message boards somehow an inferior medium? Are we as people, and thus what we have to say and our collective thoughts and opinions somehow invalidated via the mighty holy cleansing that is digital text?
And you dont care about anybody else, either. Wow. If you dont like the topic, if it offends you, then the answer is simple. Dont come to this thread anymore. Noone is, as far as I know, forcing you to view this thread. If you dont like it, you can take your ball and go home. We've got our own to play with. But that's no reason to completely disregard US and what WE want. What you have basically said here is that "I dont like what youre saying, but instead of saving myself some effort and NOT clicking the thread and reading what you say, I'd rather not only waste the time doing that but also be an asshole about it *AND* see if I cant shut down your entire conversation in the process. Rather than just going elsewhere and not listen to the conversation I dont like, I'd rather just shut all of you up for no reason." Do not misunderstand me. Its not your opinion on smoking that I take issue with. Its the fact that you disregard all other opinions on the topic without even hearing them first. This alone is enough to invalidate you, but then you proceed to basically say "Now that Ive said my piece, I couldnt care less if none of you ever get to say anything on the topic again." And that just makes you an asshole. |

| I used to smoke (the only reason i did was to piss my father off) its nasty, and it made me have a problem breathing, its is a real turn-off, i don't see what the whole point of smokin is, but do what you want, i don't like it, and not a lot of people do. |
