Charmander was my starter when I was like.. 9 and first got it. I named him Charm.

Fire-types are still my starters.

I tended to use Bulbasaur, because the first 2 gym types were weak against Grass, and the third didn't have an advantage against it.

I always found Fire types to be really weak in the first games.

Quagsire can be a pain in the f*ing ass sometimes so I think IŽll get one. I encountered one in Battle Factory in Pokemon Emerald and I just couldnŽt beat it.

My favorite of the Starters in R/S/E is Mudkip because of the Water/Ground thing and the fact that Swampert almost is a tank. 4x weakness to grass but what the hell, it owns.

My first game I chose Squirtle. He was alright. For a while. Second time was Charmander. I hated him. I now choose Bulbasaur, mainly because of its incredible usefulness in the early metagame, and being the fastest Razor Leaf user. It passes us EQ for some weird reason, but that doesn't kill it completely... Oh wait... It's part Poison sub-type helps with its disqualification from most RBY teams, due to Psychic's stranglehold on the game. Now, I have to side with Charizard, mainly for its versitility. EQ, Swords Dance (I think through Tradebacks it can learn Rock Slide; I forget), Flamethrower/Fire Blast and a nice Crit Hit Slash or Body Slam makes for a pretty versitile Pokemon, with even a chance for PAR on the Body Slam, if you want strategy and chance over pure brute force. Blastoise is a distant second. Not as good of an attacker, nor as much staying power. Sure, it can learn Blizzard to counter its grass weakness and EQ to counter its Electric weakness, but it's just not stable enough, and there are better watter types. Slowbro comes to mind. But as a Hazer, Blastoise can do the job. Finally we have Venusaur (discussed earlier). Just go with Exeggutor if you want a stable Grass Type with only on e real weakness (since no one uses bug types, or poison), or even a Tangela, since it doesn't have the dehabilitating poison subtype (a tradeback from GSC works).

Quagsire is kind of slow though, but it's the best special-attacking Water/Ground type out of the three there are. The other two work best as physical attackers.

Actually Swampert is half-decent. As long as you orient it into a physical attacker and not a special attacker, it'll do quite well. It's probably the second most used out of the RSE starters, and probably the third most used starter overall.

It still can never really accomplish much except maybe blocking some electric attacks and roaring stuff. Not really good material...

New Gen Charmander = lol pwn brock.

Did you know that around level 8 or so, Charmander can learn Metal Claw? So if you're worried about getting a type disadvantage, just use that on his rock types. That will apall the game however because when I turned it on, it said "Bob defeated BROCK's Onix with Brutis and won somehow!" And yes. I was well aware of the type disadvantage of the pokemon as well as the type advantage of Metal Claw.

Sheesh, Char just pwns all around.

It's not that good. Pretty sub-par stats, and there are better Pokemon of those types. Why have hamburger when you can have steak?

Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venusaur are all at the same time Communists and Fascist terrorists.

Bulbasaur has that Hitler moustache thing going on, what's up with that?

Yeah, I started with Squirtle. On my Red Version game, no less.

I believe it was Charmander. I forget why i chose him back then, but now i'd choose him because of the standard rule of "If all else fails use fire".

Heh... I started with Bulbasaur the first time because I didn't know any better. Then I used Squirtle. And Squirtle is win.

And I was sad in RBY because Gengar, who was my favorite, sucked in PvP because everyone used psychics.

Metal claw strategy? He learns it at level 13, not much of a strategy there. Anyways, I picked Charmander. I seem to remember beating Brock with a ton of embers but Misty...urgh, that was hell. Not to mention the fact that back in the day, I didn't know type alignments or whatever. So it was really basicly Charmeleon VS. Starmie, and I'm sure you can figure out how this turned out

Also, Charmander doesn't get STAB on Metal Claw, is still weak to Rock, and the enemy has good defense. It's better to stick with Butterfree or Mankey or something.
