Some more screenies of SMW2: Yoshi's Grand Adventure.

1-3: Beware of Nep-Enut

Nep-Enut, the enemy you see on the box cover of Yoshi's Island makes an early appearance in this hack. You have to dodge him and all the crazy monkeys in this level.

You can either wait until the balloon is over the tree or over the land before you can safely knock the big bouncing arrow down.

Monkeys and Nep-Enut guard this treasure.

More monkey action. Be sure to duck to avoid them.

This piece of land looks suspicious.

Bonus area of 1-3. In this one, you avoid Nep-Enut in the car form. You can easily avoid him because the car form is very fast. Don't try going into the water as a car unless you have a death wish.

Probably the most challenging part of the level. You have to avoid the chain of monkeys, Nep-Enut, and the monkey that spits watermelon seeds. If you are lucky enough, the seeds that the monkey spits out can hurt Nep-Enut, making him go back into the water.

Veterans of the original Yoshi's Island should know how to hit this question mark cloud.

Got the color changed and adding new graphics to make the special moves of mario better.

Wow, that's a neat idea, but what did you do about the whole inhaling/copy thing? Did you do some kind of ASM hacks? Does Mario inhale enemies now? xD;
This is such a stupidly obvious idea I'm amazed no one thought of it yet. Then again, we do have "Mario Adventure"... Perhaps now someone can figure out this game's data and release a real editor for it!

(This will be interesting to see executed, though, heh)

Don't look at me. ^w^
All I know is how to edit graphics. I just started this hack because I just learned how to change colors through hex. heh

But yeah, I would like to finish this one. Just gotta figure out how to make "Kirby" in the status bar into "Mario" (as well as other parts). But I dunno, the ingame gameplay will be mario-like but it is not like I will be able to change the intro. But hey, it is a fun hack.

Also when it comes to graphics like the sword powerup, I cannot make mario look like he is holding it no matter what I do. It just looks funny. So I might erase the sword completely. Still gives mario the ability to swing it and give the swing effect but no sword.

I probably should open a new thread for this. ^^

The first one, with the exception of the ellipsis. The periods are too diamond-like.

I say number 2 because the other font is squishy, and has a weird look like all the words are on top of eachother.

@fabio:

I'd just like to note that this is a really unique idea. It looks like it would be quite a challenge to dodge. The one problem you may have though, is if you decide to use this idea later in the hack, you can speed up the Nep-Enut/Blargg without some hex editing - meaning he would always swim after you rather slowly. Since it's the third level though, it's ok, as no one wants to play an impossibly hard level right away.

I don't really have any suggestions for your other screenshots, they all look nice. I'm impressed you were able to figure out the jungle tileset out right away, that one is a bit annoying if improperly placed. I still wish you luck with the sewer tileset if you attempt that one, heh. All in all, nice work so far. I, along with others probably, are looking forward to your first demo of this soon.

I thought the jungle tileset was quite easy to use. The only annoying thing I had trouble about the tileset was making the muddy hills, especially the diagonal left ones.

Giant Bald Guy Head Boss FTW
Seriously though, those would look incredible in a CV hack. You sure as hell would put any of my sprites to shame.

Kirby Mario WTFever... could be interesting or horrendous. If it were possible to make Mario look more at an angle than directly in front of him, there would be no issues.

Edit - Plus, that would kill the hammer skill and the sixth boss fight. I could toy with some sprites if you give me the maximum dimensions for them.

Although I might keep working on it, most kirby sprites (including the sword) is 16x16 pixels. The size of the small SMB3 mario. The sword attaches to the top left edge if mario is facing right.

Then again, the hammer and the sword have separate sprites for kirby. Not sure the difference. The hammer might be a bit different in location.

EDIT: Actually I could make the sprites for Mario if I take the time.

Thats actually exactly what I had in mind were the hills. Also, the tree covers can be a real pita too

And now for something completely interesting:

If you can't take the heat, stay out of the boiler. I am quite serious (hooray for new, charred palette)

I thought you were going to stop showing screenshots after World 6.

Anyway, the charred palette looks awesome. The only thing that bothers me about the screenshot is the background color. I'm used to the perpetual twilight in World 6 instead of daytime like in your screenshot.

Eh, I was, but it's not an official screenshot. Yeah .. that's it .. unofficial .. *worthless nod*

I actually have a few screens in this level, and they are all twilight/dark .. but I've been too lazy to change this one or something. Meh, I probably should.

I'm glad you agree on the charred palette. I think it suits the level well
