Regarding the doors, I agree that your doors look bland. If you wanted to, you could make the doors look a lot better. There appears to be empty space in the pattern tables; you could create a few new TSA blocks and then make the doors use those blocks. For example, I see 16 unused tiles in Brinstar with which you could make a door. A new door graphic would require, at most, 10 more tiles. You could make a spherical door similar to the one in Super Metroid. I imagine it would add a lot to the look of your game, especially since doors are so common in the game.

It took a weekend due to a combination of me forgetting where the graphics pointers were and my own laziness.

As for the doors... I know they suck. And SM style doors have been an option for quite a while. However, a lack of graphics is my main problem at the moment. You said you found 16 unused tiles in Brinstar alone right? Well. I already used them.
I already used most of the graphics available. Thats how I got all those pretty graphics all over the place (most of it went into Tourian)
Trying to give each area it's own new theme instead of recycled graphics has cost me.

There are alot of unused black tiles... *gets ideas

My Motivation to do this was simply to see what METGEN would look like with the original graphics. I don't plan to release that.

That's just a test tileset to play with level design, though the 'real' finished version will likely be mostly similar.

I should also mention that the current state of that level is "really damn buggy". I need to figure some way to make it so you can't walk on the blocks behind the ledges...

For a slope going up to the right, make the block underneath act like 1E2. Left, 1E4. Just don't have a slope meeting half way along a block like this:

Not bad, though.

For a slope going up to the right, make the block underneath act like 1E2. Right, 1E4. Just don't have a slope meeting half way along a block like this:

Not bad, though.

Your quote makes no sense, seeing as you use two different block numbers and say they should be the "right" one.

I think he meant the one on the right, not "right" as in correct.

Then why would the number change?

*sigh* He's talking about using two different blocks, one below the slope, and the other to the right of it.

Next I'm going to completely edit the first city. New graphics and all. This city will resemble the city that you see in the MGS Portable Ops trailer. You can stock up on grenades, nano machines (they'll have a purpose ), etc. Also, one of the abilities I will make will be called the SALUTE. If you SALUTE, your health will go up a little.

Sorry, I meant to say LEFT, 1E4.

The block marked with a yellow X should act like 1E4.
The block marked with a red X should act like 1E2.

I'm not going to take time to fix something I shouldn't have to repair in the first place.

Tails will be removed from the titlescreen soon, as Mighty and Ray are going to be playable as well..

('tis a pain getting Ray to look good with only one yellow in the entire palette)
