Er... I didn't rip the graphics from SMA SMB. In fact, I wasn't even looking at the game when I created these graphics. I created the bottom and someone pointed out how they looked similiar to SMA SMB so I decided to make the top similiar too. My goal isn't to match SMA SMB but just to make a neat looking dungeon.

Anywho:

Opinion: is it more like a forest or does it seem more like a jungle? I say jungle, what do you think?

Seconded the ditto.

However, you might want to fix the bottom of the top tree where it meets the top of the bottom tree. I can see 4 sky pixels peeking through, and it looks awkward. Just colour it the same colour as the tree and it should be fixed.

DahrkDaiz, if you have a free background tile, or if you can create one, I wonder how a leaf background would look...

A darker-green leaf background, that would create the illusion that he really is in a jungle. Just a thought. Give it a shot to see how it goes. If it doesn't look good, then, you don't have to use it. But something tells me it would look good.

Jungle, but to me, it's looking more like a beach level.

I was just wondering if you had a purpose for the dimensional doors (the doors that switch you from the normal size world to giant size world)? If you don't, here's another idea for you.

If you include a door in some levels, when you go through it, you can switch between Mario and Luigi. Would make levels even more interesting, as you would need to use a certain character to accomplish certain tasks within the level in order to beat it.

*screenshots, and he'll show them when he's ready (when he's finished the level).

As for the screenshots, SoNotNormal, that looks intense. The place in the first screenshot looks difficult to get past (or it may just be sleep deprivation).

As for DahrkDaiz's dungeon graphics, I agree with their having too high contrast. They look nothing like the counterparts from the game they were ripped from.

Speaking of Mario, here's what the general level graphics World 3 from my SMW Hack will look like. This doesn't show everything that will be in there (most notably the purple triangle replacement and foreground filler), and the colors are likely going to change, but what the hell.

That looks really cool. I wonder if you can travel through some amusement park rides as well.

It looks more like a jungle, I'd say... I wonder, why not try making the background a green shade, to give the impression of a dense forest?

One of the other levels types will be roller coaster train levels, and yet another will be funhouse levels. Those hardly count, though. A good part of that level type is going to involve various contraptions, such as springs, conveyors, boost blocks, and so on.

That would be a good idea for something like a super-secret ninth world (which you could only access, for example, if you got all the green coins in the game). Unfortunately I don't know how possible it would be to implement. It would certainly be an interesting idea to think about, at least.

I really like that pic, it's pretty sweet. Now I'm gonna get a song playing in my head called Love Rollercoaster from the Ohio Players from their album called Honey every time I see that pic.

Here's a pic of sumthin I'm working on myself...

I'm halfway done with this hack too, I'll release it soon.

I really like those graphics you're coming up with, DahrkDaiz. The dithering on them is just beautiful. The stopwatch function you and Bio.exe discussed looks really interesting, too!

SNN, almost didn't see this, but I really like those light bulbs hanging off the vines. Were they in the original game? Any way you could expand the pool of light coming out from them?

They were in the original yes. However, that screenshot has been updated, and I made a new palette. Lookie

Those graphics are beautiful, I'm impressed with what you've shown of your YI hack so far, graphically and the level designs seem nice as well. That particular BG really does give the impression of one being in a rainforest or the like.

Those graphics look beautiful. Kinda gives the impresion of a ruined prison or an old prison, or something of the sort.

My only gripe is what you did to the boxes inside the doos they seem a little...bland. Its not as much of a complaint as you may think I just think there could be a little more detail put into it.

Why would you remove your custom graphics from the game? They clearly look much better than the original's. Additionally, why'd it take all weekend? A few copy/pastes in a hex editor and it should have been back to original graphics. I suspect it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Regarding the doors, I agree that your doors look bland. If you wanted to, you could make the doors look a lot better. There appears to be empty space in the pattern tables; you could create a few new TSA blocks and then make the doors use those blocks. For example, I see 16 unused tiles in Brinstar with which you could make a door. A new door graphic would require, at most, 10 more tiles. You could make a spherical door similar to the one in Super Metroid. I imagine it would add a lot to the look of your game, especially since doors are so common in the game.
