After looking around for a while, I have not been able to find a thread that showed what Zelda 3 hacks were in progress...So I decided to start one This may not work out/be a good idea, but having a thread containing information for the various zelda 3 hacks may well be very useful for many people (including myself).
So...if anyone has an upcoming hack of a link to the past, then...post away. |

The Legends of Hyrule (formerly Dodongo's Gold and then formerly again Forsaken War) is well under way. Ive been taking lessons in ASM and have made a couple of discoveries already which will give me more freedom with the overworld.
The GFX for the overworld is at a level now that im pleased with and has freed up a lot of room to make my hack very varied. Thankfully getting past a few large pieces of gfx editing I am now free to enter back into editing and asm. I am always updating my work in the general screenshots thread but if this thread stays alive longer than the last, I will post here also. For now heres a small glimpse of what's coming... And yes that Link sprite is ingame. |

Dodongo's Gold was never actually canceled?
I was always under the impression that it was. Nice screens by the way. And I still have your demo of Dodongo's Gold floating around on disc somewhere. But if you do decide to stop this hack I will be waiting nearby with a flaming pitchfork. |

Holy shit, that hack is STILL on? Incredible. That's the one non-Mario hack I've been looking forward to for a long time. Gotta love that water palace (screenshots 3, 4 and 6). Do you have any idea about the approxamite release time of this?

We say soon cause, its all relative . Haha, ive had some major important stuff i needed to get done over the last few months that have really been holding back progress. Look for it in the next few months.

Originally posted by KoitenshinDodongo's Gold and all its backup were misserably lost but since then ive improved on pretty much everything it had. Release date i would never be so bold as to actually give a proper date. Id like it this year obviously but we'll see. Zelda DP im still looking forward to. Its ages until Twilight Princess's release so i need my Zelda Fix. Also Euclid sounds like he's working on Parralel worlds a bit more and i cant stress just how much I am looking forward to his hack. I'm hoping theyll be some new people entering the Z3 hacking arena but thats unlikely..many dont last long. I can always hope. |

Yeah, very few last, but those that do are dedicated and create fantastic results. IMO, its much better than the SMW community where every john doe with a computer puts out his very own sub par hack. At least the Zelda community gets nothing but AAA work.

Very true. Also most who hack Zelda in some way use ASM or hex editing to compliment their work. I havent done much yet but what i have has given me a lot more freedom and im no longer worried about having to keep elements in the same places. Making both dungeons and overworld a completely different experience to the original.

I'm one of the thousands to state that I'm working on my own Z3 hack. I have alot of ideas but most of them on on the overworld and I suck at drawing trees. I'm just going to stick with a dungeon only hack and call it MASTER QUEST.
Edit: Can someone share a tutorial site on Zelda ASM hacking? (edited by Bane King on 01-17-06 10:10 AM) (edited by Bane King on 01-17-06 10:25 AM) (edited by Bane King on 01-17-06 10:34 AM) |

There isnt enough demand for anyone to make a tutorial on how to do it specifically for Zelda 3, but there are plenty of documents on the net that you can read concerning assembly programming. Dont expect it to be easy though.

Ouch...
I found an asm tutorial. Anyways, I'm making a detailed document on the dungeons (for reference) and I'll share it when I'm done. |

I recognize that ASM tutorial, however it is the wrong kind of ASM (That's the kind of ASM used in DOS). To program on the Super Nintendo you need to find a tutorial on 65816 ASM. I would suggest looking at romhacking.net for one. (edited by MathOnNapkins on 01-17-06 06:10 PM) |
