This better not be going in the direction I think it is... I knew these felt familiar :3

Don't worry, I made a backup before I made the few changes I needed to make it go in the direction I was talking about. I'm still debating if I want to do it or not.

When i first saw the pictures i immediately remembered rush 'n' attack on the NES which i always loved for its quirky gameplay.

Id prefer it not to go the direction of metal gear i never really liked the series since it went overly storyline, however a callback to metal gear on the NES would be sweet. Any hero who can punch through solid brick wall deserves an applause.

A mech tank is probably a good thing seeing as bowsers fireblasts can easily be converted to say a rocket.

The story for my hack if it isn't a Metal Gear theme is this:

"Commander Mario"
What if Konami or Capcom were the ones to develop the Nintendo Entertainment system? Well obviously it would be called the KES or the CES, but what would thier ground breaking platformer be like? Well this is what that hack is supposed to be. You play as Commander Mario fighting against the evil terrorist army the "K.O.O.P.A." Your mission: Inifltrate the 8 bases and destroy the 8 Bowser Tanks.

The hack can still go either way though I even have screens of what both would look like, check it out:

Either or. Maybe you should do a dual hack. One where you play as Snake or whoever you want, and the other, a generic Soldier. So you can keep both going :]

Oh, that's right, SNES uses JSLs. Well, is there a help file for 6502? I know the Super Nintendo engine pretty well, but I don't know much about NES, their similarities, and their differences.

Yeah, shooting straight would be really cool. I played one japanese SMB hack that when you stomp on enemies, they'd die falling upside down. That'd be pretty hot to see in these hacks.

I finally have it. I decided to show all of this to you instead.

Use the hex editor and open up the SMB1 ROM.

1) 25058=0x61E2 to 25058=0x61E2 (1 bytes) Changed this offset from 1C to 0D

2) 25073=0x61F1 to 25073=0x61F1 (1 bytes) Changed this offset from FD to 00

3) 25082=0x61FA to 25083=0x61FB (2 bytes) Changed this offset from 29 F8 to 09 0F

Now Mario shoot fireballs straight

Let me know if i'm wrong because I may have posted the Trained SMB1 ROM or something.

Definately impressive for a SMB1 hack. Since that game don't have much graphics to deal with. Maybe you can get rid of those underwater levels and use the swimming animation space for more graphics. Another suggestion is to get rid of the jumping noise, and bring down his jumping height to be more realistic.

Pretty nice. Wouldn't it make more sense to have spikes or quicksand in a temple than lava though?

Spikes? You mean the ones Dahrkdaiz have. I'm stlil working on it right now . I found 67 out of 147 offsets in HMB5. I'd plan to have all the data I found.

There's been a million Japanese hacks out there that use spikes, they even have a patch you can apply so you don't have to find it, which I have. Thing is, I don't really want spikes. Mainly I'm not going that route for two reasons
A) I don't have the room for it in the background GFX
B) I don't really want spikes

If they really have the spikes patch I'll PM AP in the to know where it is or I'll just Google and find it. Besides I'm putting the spikes in the different TSA block other than the Mushroom Platform.

Well, this hack looks very interesting. I like the new fortress too. Good work.

Whether it is soldier or Snake, I still find this interesting.

Why don't you just make the lava vine bushes? It could work...

Wow. The castle/ruins and the new Bowser look great. Also, if you're not going to use spikes, why not use quicksand instead? Just like Hyperhacker said, that would make a lot more sense than having the lava that looks like that. A "pit" effect could also work well.

Making the bullets go straight would not only be a bit tricky, but it would make Goombas unkillable with them. The answer is obvious: Grenade launcher.

There's an editor (Which has been around for years) that let's you easily change how the fireballs behave.
