No. It's that they're part of it.
Sounds to me like you're basically stating DahrkDiaz (who, last I checked, basically 'owned' this forum in a sense) is a part of the problem?

Aparrently you misunderstood me.

Yes, I absolutely am saying that. No, I misunderstood nothing about what you have said (unless you mean the spelling mistake). And if by "own" this forum you mean, "has an obligation to maintain the organizational integrity of the threads", then yes. But anything beyond that? Nope, not really.

Wait a minute.. I'm not really sure what you're saying here. You're suggesting we add a section or provision to the site to find patches that consist of bug fixes for the original ROMs? Is that right? That's an interesting idea. Point me in the direction of some of those patches and I will add a Bug Fix category to the site and add them!

So, you're pretty much advocating only complete patches or a rare exception for a demo be in the archive? That was my initial thoughts, but don't you think a good portion of the community might object to that? That was my thoughts. I received feedback from some others saying they would like to see all those countless Mario hacks in there as well as spoofs, demos etc..

Well, that being the case, you should put those kinds of things in a completely seperate section. Don't clog up the main hacks section with spoofs and around 2.715e+86 demos. As forementioned, the entire hack section would be pointless if you did that, as it would be too difficult to sort through the junk to get to the good stuff. Even stereotyping based on content (GSLT tags) wouldn't work. One way or another, there has to be a way to seperate the good hacks from the bad hacks and the full hacks from the pure text hacks. I suggest making multiple hack sections. The one currently linked to could serve as the good, full, hack section. You could use something like "page=hax" for the mediocre hack section, where all the typical or lame hacks go. "page=spoof" could be used for spoofs and pure text hacks. "page=demos" is for demos, of course. "page=bugfix" works for bug fixes. I say this because quite frankly, using the search feature can be a little slow at times, and it takes a little while longer to find the stuff you're looking for. Granted, it's only a few seconds at most, but after a while, it begins to get really irritating.

Here you go, Nightcrawler:

RPG Legion's Patch Section
Assassin's Barren Webpage
Tenchinohoukai's Patch Section
Imzogelmo's Final Fantasy III Not-Even-Penultimate ROM Resource
Dragonsbrethren's Temporary Index (Why not add Castlevania Retold 2.0 to the site while you're at it?)

Those countless Mario hacks gave me an idea. Can the database tabulate how many views or downloads a certain rom hack gets, and then allow a visitor to view a descending list of rom hacks with the most views? This could be one way of separating popular or good rom hacks from a sea of other old entries. The other alternative would be a rating system, but I don't think many people are going to stop and take the time to rate a rom hack; they are there just to d/l it.

That could work, but often times great hacks are passed up because they are for overhacked games. Maybe a combination of that and reviews would be a good idea, though.

Dragonsbrethren

Thanks for the links. Wow.. I didn't know there were so many bug fixes. I'm surprised people have spent so much time on fixing bugs in the original games. It's quite a job to add all of those.
I think I'm going to add the section and then allow you or others to add them. I'm in the process now of allowing public submissions to the database that only pass by staff for approval. Once that is up, you can add those types of things yourself.

It's certainly posible to tabulate views or downloads a hack gets, although I'd have to do the coding to do so. That's actually quite a bit of work. I'm not sure that would really do much. Only the most popular or well known hacks would be seen as they inherently be viewed most often. I agree with Dragonsbrethren that this would help out pushing other good hacks to the background.

I think I am going to add user reviews(subject to approval as well to keep the crap out) and that's probably going to be it. Everything else just doesn't work well in my eyes.
