Yeah... I got back my computer from discovery computers, and well... everything I had is gone. That's it. Boom, no chance. apart from SMWOE, actually, everything is gone. No more ExGFX, no more anything. Boom.

SMWOE is on my school compy, so I will finish that... but I don't think you'll hear much from me after this regarding any hacks... That's it for me.

So if I burnt your house down you'd just decide to stay homeless? I've never liked that kind of attitude. But yeah, backups can help you from getting discouraged. I get pissed if I lose a day's work, let alone a month's work or more.

Sorry to hear about that, I know the feeling.

That's one advantage of team hacks... If your computer fucks up, your partner still has (almost) everything... You'd be veeeeery unlucky if your partner lost everything at the same time though.

I've got all my stuff on my USB key too (and on a few other places), so losing my hard work is highly improbable.

That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that.

I know there are PC forensic services that offer data recovery, some even work with hard drives from fires and floods, but I suppose they must be incredibly expensive. But if it happened to me I'd probably send an email to one of them, at least to know how much it would cost.

Yeah, R-Studio worked pretty well when I fucked up installing Linux and overwrote several sectors.

But really, if you didn't make a backup... That's just sad.

Backups? I didn't feel I had to make one- I never said they were allowed to delete anything, but then the dumb bastards go and erase and reformat one drive, and erase and re-make the primary DOS partition on the other.

'Course, they also screwed up the drive physically, and messed up the windows installation as well.

Oh, and I was about a month away from finishing it, too. Not that i'd stay homeless though, but to have your entire last 1 1/2 years utterly annihilated at the touch of a button, then having the guys blame it on you, that's tough.

I've one chance left to get the data back, with a different company, ITC. If they can get the data off the drive with something like partition magic or R-STUDIO or something, that'd mean that I wouldn't have to cancel the hacks, but... Don't count on it

You should back up such important things frequently whether there's a problem or not. Have you asked if they kept one?

Maybe you can blame them and sue.

Ouch...sorry to hear that . That's some horrible luck, if it makes you feel any better I lost my first SMW hack as I was making the last level . Sucks all that hard work won't get to be seen now, but try to keep your head up high .

I've wanted to improve many of my old hacking tools to make them more non-sucky, but my HD went boom around a year ago, causing me to lose the source code.

Well... ITC is supposed to have professional data recovery... hopefully I can still get the data off the drive it was on (which was it... I can't tell which used to be the salve and which was the master- the slave had my most important files)

That sucks man. I can't really say I know the feeling because the most I've ever lost is a day's work, and I was REALLY pissed off about that.

And I was looking forward to COTMK too.

Yeah, I lost some awesome levels a while ago. Opening your ROM in Hex Workshop, editing in LM, then saving in Hex Workshop without reloading is a BAD IDEA.

As for backing up, though... I make frequent backups to my second hard drive, keeping each file. Every now and then I copy the most recent backup both to a disk (well not anymore because my floppy drive doesn't work getting a flash card soon though) and my FTP server.

If nothing works at all, I've got a copy that's pretty far in. (I also have it from when it was SMW3, too, if anyone even cares. )

Yea, I also have a copy I DL'ed from freewebs that was a bu-fix patch for FuSoYa, related to MAP16++ messing up and crashing past MAP16 page 2, so that's pretty good, I guess.
