How can this even be enforced?

I can say my name is Joe Wilson, and they'd have no clue if it was my real name or not. The person being annoyed that is.

"The use of the word 'annoy' is particularly problematic," says Marv Johnson, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union. "What's annoying to one person may not be annoying to someone else."

Am I the only one who laughed out loud at that quotation?
This act or law, or whatnot... doesn't make any logical sense.

This law will also never be enforced, I guarantee it. It's extremely vague and could probably be argued against successfully by a good lawyer in court.

It'll just be a footnote in American legal history when it's all said and done.

this is probably going to be used on top of something else...you have to be caught first for something else, then they realize they could tact this on as well...

Why does US brag about freedom that they're loosing? I mean... geez.

Well, ok. It didn't get through. And I admit... it's a pretty stupid rule. ;

Ok, SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE A IT PARTY. Sometimes I just want to get into the politics, becuse the politicians have no idea what they're talking about sometimes. Hell, I heard about a case where a practical joke was played on politicans... Making them think there was a new dangerous drug with the name "cake" around.

You guys all annoy me. Byebye.

Seriously, how retarded is this?

To grease the rails for this idea, Sen. Arlen Specter, a Pennsylvania Republican, and the section's other sponsors slipped it into an unrelated, must-pass bill to fund the Department of Justice. The plan: to make it politically infeasible for politicians to oppose the measure.

Sad enough that this can be done, even worse that it was featured on The Simpsons. Did (can?) Bush even read this bill?

And for all he knows, my name really is Haipaa Hakkaa. It's Japanese. I was born in Kyoto in 1975 and inadvertantly moved to Canada during a failed teleportation experiment. I mean really, how would anyone go about verifying this?

"There are perfectly legitimate reasons to set up a Web site or write something incendiary without telling everyone exactly who you are.

Think about it: A woman fired by a manager who demanded sexual favors wants to blog about it without divulging her full name. An aspiring pundit hopes to set up the next Suck.com. A frustrated citizen wants to send e-mail describing corruption in local government without worrying about reprisals."

Uh, okay. XD!

"this is probably going to be used on top of something else...you have to be caught first for something else, then they realize they could tact this on as well..."

They´d probably do it even if you were innocent.

"It's extremely vague and could probably be argued against successfully by a good lawyer in court. "

Not to mention that the whole USA would be annoyed by that law.

My name is Benjamin Franklin, thank you very much.

I should become a politician and slip in a "The Constitituion is, from this point forward, null and void" in some random bill.

And then watch it pass since no one actually reads them.

I hate America's politics.

It dosn't matter if the USA is annoyed by the law, as long as it isn't via the internet ._.;; and doing what if you are innocent? convicting you? Well, if my understanding of the legal system is right, once you are deemed innocent by a jury, then you are already cleared of that accusation, not "the jury finds you innocent but we're still fining/imprisoning you". So really...what are you talking about

I meant that there are cops who are so desperate that they try to convict you for something even if it wasn´t you who commited the crime.

That would be insane
I could see that happening too. Not neccessarily you doing it Xk, but maybe an insane politician that wanted to kill the government.

...I wonder though. If that somehow managed to pass, could the Supreme Court declare it unconstitutional still? Or would it be permanantly set in stone until someone just says "Let's just throw it out!".

In any case, it would be hilarious, but people would probably take advantage of no constitution by basically going and wrecking property, killing people; knowing they couldn't be punished legally.

Yoro, the idea is they bring you in on some bogus charge, then say "ok, you didn't do that, but during our investigation we found out you've been annoying people online".

Ikes. Heh. Good thing I'm not Master M nowadays!

But still. Laws like these are rarely enforced. Kinda like laws about your dog pooping in some open area in a city. There's a law against it, but not exactly enforced.

Something annoying is all relative. If there are several thousand referrals from an "annoying" page then PERHAPS the culprit should go to prison. 2 years seems a bit too severe for this misdemeanor but I could be wrong.

Seriously, who gives a crap about someone's "emotional" well-being? You cannot please everyone and no matter what you do on the internet, someone is bound to get hurt for whatever reason.

It is indeed, a stupid rule.

Another thing, unless they are forcing their webpage to be viewed by throwing out advertisements, e-mails, and stuffing the information down people's throats, these e-noyances shouldn't get the blame.

What Cruel Justice said made me think of something. Can't we all agree that POP-UPS caused by SPYWARE from big companies be an annoyance? So any company that uses them should be brought to court for several hundred thousand counts of "internet annoyance". Will it happen? Nah...

That bill is unconstitutional! What you really need to do is attach "Also, the entire constitution doesn't matter anymore" to an amendment that can't possibly not pass.

Also, anyone who even jokes about voiding the constitution in a BILL needs to take a civics class. You can't change the constitution via a simple bill, you need to go through the amendment process which has a mandatory requirement of ratification by at least 2/3 of the states.

PS: Any law that can be used to throw spammers in prison is a good law.
