Ok, I got great responses from the first dream school thread. Basically it was a building block on how to design the school in CAD. Now, I would like to know how you guys would like the educational part. I got a few educational responses like; unlimited gym equipment, all foreign languages, etc...

I need to know this because I got about 2 weeks until I have to present this. Thank you all for the help.

There's got to be a computer department. But unlike most schools/uni's it should come with all the expensive software (e.g. Maya 5). It's a bitch having to look for illegal craacsk cause a school can't be bothered to by something. Also somewhere for coking (I love cooking) A rugby pitch or two and decent band equippment.

I agree, my school has way to many crapy computers. Noone wants to go on a com that takes 5 min. just to open a web page. And some good band equipment would be realy good. The school should also have enough books for a class set, and for a set to take home(it can be a real drag carry all of your books around school).

Our computers do suck...
But, don't we enough books and equipment? Or, I thought you said we don't have enough. THAT would be a lie.

1) Get rid of all that mandatory crap. Unless it's absolutely necessary (like basic math and a first language), you don't have to take it. I'd bet pretty good money that I will never find myself wishing I'd paid more attention in French or History.

2) Offer absolutely everything, with all the necessary equipment. Foreign languages, obscure sciences, weird shit most people have never heard of... I know it's totally infeasible, but hey, it's a dream.

3) Have someone who knows anything about computers manage the computer systems. 2ghz computers should not run slower than my old 486, school computers don't need built-in speakers, and for the love of God learn some security. Blocking right-click on the taskbar and removing Explorer's File menu does not secure a damn thing, especially not when anyone can just pull up a command prompt. IE should be blocked, and lololol should be the default browser - NOT the other way around! (If your filter sucks that much that just using another browser bypasses it, GET ONE THAT WORKS! And don't filter every connection through one outdated system!) And FFS, blocking programs by filename is the worst security system ever!

4) Teachers that give a damn. Nah, that'll never happen.

music (band and orchestra) Psht. And chorus.

You have to have a good Choral program with theory classes and sight singing classes. That's fascinating. There should be a piano class as well, so singers can understand how theory, sightsinging and piano relate to their voice.

There has to be an amazing Drama department as well.
And an amazing art department with unlimited art supplies, and a throng of talented/helpful/not overly critical teachers.

I'm a huge advocate for the arts.

The Global Department should be huge to. Global history, and history in general is amazing. Favorite subject. History should be taught more in depth. Like, more in a cause-and-effect way. How for every action there is an equal an opposite reaction way. History is a ripple of cause and effects.. and will be forever. So, people don't necessarily need to learn from the past.. they need to learn how to apply the thinking of cause-and-effect to the future. But personally, I just find history fascinating. It's the stories of extraordinary people. Everyone has a story though, it'd be cool to learn about the history of ordinary people. Accomplishments, triumphs, defeats.. secrets.. there's so much that gets lost in history because we deem ordinary people to be "boring". Meanwhile... we're all just ordinary people.

I think students in highschool should be forced to take psychology as well, it gets them to think of WHY humans do the things they do. It gets them to think more about the world around them in general. And highschool students need that.

In my dreamschool I would study Latin, to get a better understanding of the english language. I would also study Italian, French and German. This is because, yes I like opera.. and yes I sing classical pieces. So, studying the languages I would have to know for the music would be very helpful. You'd get a better understanding of what you were singing, and be able to express it better.

English. People would be forced to be more creative in english. Poetry would be big. I'd suggest not reading a slew of novels, but going out there and reading books that interest you. Have a book log, and do a report on it when it's finished. As, sort of proof that you read it. Also, I'd suggest alot more writing in english. Alot of students have a hard time constructing essays. If they just saw it as a natural form of communication, or as a way to express thoughts.. it'd be easier on them.

I'd like to be able to take theology at my school to. Or have some sort of Philosophy class. Or maybe a combination of the two. I'm definatly taking theology in college as one of those filler courses. Cause, I love to learn. And well, that's interesting to me.

Math? Uh, yeah unfortunatly you kind of need math. I think they use advanced math primarily to weed people out of their majors. Like becomming a doctor, you need a lot of math. Except, I'm never going to apply advanced calculus at my job. I'd think doctors would have to study advanced science, biology, organic chem even... and more humanitarian classes.. like history classes, physch classes and even english. To know why people act the way they do, and react in certain ways is a vital form of being a good nurturing doctor. So yeah..

Well, I'd make the math teachers more understanding. Like, I guess... move a bit slower and be a bit more helpful. I just started imaginary numbers.. and uh... wtf? We're already doing logs that apply imaginary numbers. I want to die when I'm in math.

You'd only have to take the science classes that you'd need for what you're going to do in life. Sciences are specific and precise. If you want to become a doctor, take biology and AP bio classes in highschool. It makes sense.

Highschool should be training for you career. Too many people go to college not knowing what they want from it.. or how to apply the knowledge they have in college.. to getting an actual job.

So yeah, these questions should be answered in highschool. Or at least, considered seriously.

... Jeez. Talk about rambling on and on and on. I think it's time for some sleeep.

In our school they are realtively smart. Rather than forcing us to use IE they say that we can use whatever browser we want but we still have to browse the internet through their proxy server. Though I'm bypassing it as I type .

That's not smart, that's average for a school. Mine just has a particularly poor setup. I'm bypassing it just by using lololol, even though it's banned, and all I had to do was rename it to iexplore.exe.

How about a Mach chamber? (you know the round chamber with the chair you sit in that they use to get people used to G forces) Would be useful for people wanting to be astronauts or pilots to see if they can actually handle it.

Ok need more information...

What should the entry requirement be if there should be any?
What are the graduation requirements?
How long is the school day?
What curriculum should be offered?
Where is the school location of the school?
How many students are in the school?
How do you know if the students are being successful?

I would really deeply appreciate you guys answering these questions I supplied.

Thank you.

entry requirements...since I'm assuming high school, you should have completed the 8th grade?

Graduation requirements? My high school had 4 years of english, 3 years of history, 2 years of math, 2 years of science, 1 year of pe, 1 year minimum of foreign language or something in the arts. However, you had to take at least 6 courses per semester.

A school day should start no earlier than 9 and finish no later than 3. However, many california schools go 8-3 in high school with classes being 55 minutes each and 3 minutes of passing period, 15 minute break period at around 10am and 30 minute lunch at around noon.

Location of school should be in a downtown area with lots of shops for food. Campus should be open so that students can leave the confines of campus to get food.

a large school would justify the need for thevariety of classes mentioned before if this school was public. If this is private, then anything goes...

Grades alone should not determine whether a student is successful but it is the easiest standard to implement. I believe that another factor should be in place for those students who just do not work well in a "academic" environment but do well in other ways...
