Whenever Mario enters a level through a vertical pipe with a piranha plant in it, he gets hurt, is there an easy way of fixng this (maybe through hex)?

The only things I can think of are hacking the pipe routine or Piranha Plant code so that Mario's invincible when he's coming out of the pipe, or creating a whole new routine in the main level loop that'll remove the plant if Mario's coming out of a pipe.

Either way, it's not worth the effort. Just move the damn thing to a different pipe.

Actually, making Mario invincible when coming out of the pipe seems like a good idea. After all, we sholud all know why after the desert in DWTLC...

Normally, the Piranha Plant temporarily "deletes" itself as soon as Mario is within a certain range. The problem is, it occasionally lags one frame behind, which is just long enough to hurt Mario as he's coming out of the pipe. This little patch modifies the pipe routine to add a single frame of invincibility after it clears $13F9 ("Mario goes behind stuff" flag), giving the Piranha Plant just enough time to delete itself.

Before applying this patch, please check $7C00 in your ROM and make sure there are 12 free bytes (FF). I'm not entirely sure if anyone else has used this space for their ASM hacks...
