| No. Music is not a drug.
However, it releases natural drugs within your brain. Pretty much any time you do something you like (ie, eat chocolate, have sex, listen to music) your brain releases endorphins
So while music itself is not a drug... you might get a buzz from it ![]() |

| For me, music is essential.
Like having iron in your blood. Or, having blood. |

I like my music - even more so with my iPod.
So in that respect (having a dependency on it), it's a drug in my eyes. But at least it's legal (if you pay for it). ![]() |

| I agree, I need music in my life as well, but I don't see it as a drug. That's a major exaggeration, to me. | |||

| Well, I said yes in the sense of some people being dependent on it. Even with video games, I can't play a game muted. I need to hear the music.
Of course, I don't know if someone can be addicted to music, so that kills the whole "real" drug notion. |

| The difference is, it's not like a drug addiction. It's not going to take your months to get over it, it's not going to make you feel like you're dying, whatever else symptoms of drugs are... I really don't know a whole lot. Music is just a hobby, and a hobby isn't a drug. It's a hobby. | |||

| One can be addicted to music, but it's a milder addiction than most.
A person can become dependent or addicted to nearly any activity, so potential for dependence is not a good definition of 'drug.' I prefer to think of substances that you put in your body - that is, introduce foreign chemicals into your system - as drugs. Activities that cause your brain to "drug" itself are not. So, is music a drug? No. Can you form a dependence with music? Yes. |

| Well, I've taken all sorts of drugs and I can say, music is not a drug, but it often enhances the drugged experience. (Better perception of music/sound => Trippy)
Edit: That means No. (edited by Coby on 01-06-06 03:26 AM) |

| Music ain't a drug. But it's effects can be a bit drug like. If I'm listening to metal for example I can start to feel aggressive while if I were listening to reggae I might feel like just chilling out. However if i don't have music I then I just accept that I don't. | |||

| No. Music isnīt a drug. While it might affect your brain like a drug making you feel happy or calm, you donīt get addicted to it.
Music is everyones right. |

| Yes, from a personal stand-point, I say it is. I mean, "drug" could mean something that you like and need in life, even something as simple as music. This isn't the same as the "real" meaning of drugs: ie pot, blow and so on. | |||

| Every definition of "drug" that I looked up starts with "A substance..." Music isn't a substance, so it's not a drug. That doesn't mean it can't be addictive, though. | |||

Actually, one possible definition for "substance" is "essential nature". So even though it's a bit of a stretch, you could say that music has substance. ![]() |
