I think it'd be cool if the board would add line breaks automatically (or something) in very long words, so they can never stretch tables...

And maybe even auto-resize huge pictures... Not sure how hard that would be though.

Edit: 2 other suggestions not related to the one above...

1- Make it so that when you edit your profile, there's an automatic check that makes sure the amount of "<table>" in the header + signature equals the amount of "</table>". Same check when you edit a post...

2- About new annoucements showing on the index... It works with cookies, right ? Because it shows again when you're on another browser or computer... I think it should work the same way than for every thread, that is to say something related to your user account, not cookies.

This would be nice, but I don't know how hard it is. No more layouts sucking, no more stretching because someone uses a few too many 's... the good life.

For the first suggestion, it'd just be a bitch to implant.

The <table></table> thing would be easy as heck, and it's not a bad idea at all.

yes, checking for tables would be nice, but there are many, many, many, many, many (repeat ad-nauseum) other ways to break tables.

automatic image resizing is impossible unless you think inserting javascript into every single post that uses an image and having your computer slow to a halt while it makes sure all images are under a limit is fun.

auto-breaking long words would also fuck over anyone who tries to use tables or even lists, since you can't have linebreaks in them, especially in tables. it'd result in very likely fucking up an html tag somewhere.

in short: more people need to use common sense and not do anything stupid

if they do, that's why we have moderators and admins who can edit posts.

You need to make something that checks if you have common sense

I would say the main problem with preventing table-stretching is that it's subjective- what stretches tables on a 640x480 resolution most likely won't on, say, 800x600.

Indeed. That was my main thought when I posted.

But Xk brought something else, and he's right.

Er...

I defy you to find five people who use 640x480.

There's nobody using that resolution anymore.

But it doesn't change the fact that it's relative to the resolution you're using.

Yeah, I thought about resolution problems... But there might have been workarounds, like converting 100% (table size) to a width in pixels, and making sure that px width always stays the same or something, while still being different for everyone.

And as for the <table> count thing... You could put a check for ALL tags if you want (and if it's simple enough), with exceptions like <br>...

Uhh...why don't people just remove the table's? I put mine on the left so you could tell that my background was of Link.

Side effect of lack of common sense.

You can remove the tables can't you or is it because I said I put it on the side?

There's lots of boards that look like this one, where all the posts are stacked on top of each other like a cohesive table, but they're all actually separate tables. When one stretches the others don't.

I would rather the posts be stacked on each other than for them to sideways.

Sideways as in a thread goes left to right instead of up and down?

I don't see where anyone has suggested that.

Not true. I've reinstalled Windows and been stuck using it before.

There's nobody using their proper Video drivers that uses it anymore

It was an example- I couldn't remember the exact numbers for the higher resolutions, but could remember 640x480 and 800x600 (not sure if many people use that either)...
