I'm new here, as you've probably figured out by now, so as I was surfing around, looking at all the neat stuff, I found that you could have a neat post layout. This is some sweet stuff, that I've not seen in other forums, so of course, I decided to try to make one my self. But when I try to set it all up in my profile, it dosen't seem to work quite right. Thus, I'm asking for help. I have some art stapled down already (it's only one picture). Whether it's information on how to get it to work correctly, or if it would be easyer for you HTML guru's out there to just do it up yourself, whichever works best I suppose.

Here's the pic.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Sprout/layout2.gif

Obviously, the text won't be on top of the pictures on the left, and maybe it's a bit of a harsh color for a big box in the middle of the screen to be. Either way, I ask for assistance!

Well, you'd probably need to use a

<div style="background:url("http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Sprout/layout2.gif"); bA\aground-repeat-x;bgcolor:#xxxxxx">

in your header, with #xxxxxx changed to the color of the pixel in the lower-right corner of that picture, and

</div>

At the end of your signature.

how does that work?

Nothing. It still shows up as a regular unedited post as you see of course.....hrmm...

Maybe it's just me, but something about that line dosen't look right to me. Particularly "bA\aground", but then again, I don't know anything about the code I'm working with here, so it's probably just me.

Also, I'll work on some layout code for you.

Wow, thanks a lot. I guess I'll keep tweaking with it to see if I can get anywhere with it.

Edit: Okay. Update. I've deffinatly gotten somewhere, but my profile preview has huge ugly spaces on the top and bottom of the post, but I've got the basic format down. I'll keep googling HTML tips, and get a nice font color going as well.

Woohoo! Take a look at this! After a day of running around the internet looking at HTML tutorials, I've finnaly gotten the layout looking pretty good. Still, the colors are still harsh, but I'm so proud of myself, I'm not caring too much. I even got the background picture to change colors between green, red, and blue randomly. The only problems I have with it is the signature. It leaves that dotted white line and empty space under it. How can I get rid of that? And how can I get it so the text only goes so far before restarting. Since the picture changes colors, I can't set a default background color to look like part of the actual picture. But regardless of those problems, what do you think?

I don't see the image at all. It's probably because it's hosted from Tripod, yuck.

And the table is horribly, horribly stretched horizontally.

I don't see the stretching, but I don't see anything but the text...

Edit Profile, change your "signature separator" to "None"

I see table stretching too, and no layout background. You need to get that fixed before you go borking all the tables with it.

Edit: Nevermind... now I see a background. Color changing, pretty trippy. But the tables are still stretched.

Thank you neotransotaku, the signature trick worked. As with "streched tables", and having just learned about the code behind tables just yesterday, I have no idea what you're talking about. I basically fiddled with the values until I got the text where I wanted it. And as for the background not showing up, I may have to find a new webhost that supports PHP, and unlimited (or as much as possible) of bandwidth per month if it's going to not show up all the time.

Well by fiddling with the text, you moved it to the right. But um... well I know nothing about coding, but the tables are stretched because of that move, and um.. I think you have to set a value for how far you want the text to go. Or something.
Someone who knows how to code, help me out.

Well, for your text, try placing it in a table with border="0", and have one table cell that's empty, with aset width (like width="50"), and have a second cell with your post text in it.

Note that this only affects how you see posts, and not everyone else.

What does that matter? If you don't want the dashes either, change your sig separater to none also.
