Imagine that someone programs a simulated universe, which follows all of our laws of physics. This program runs for quite some time and suns, planets and moons begins to form. On one planet, life is born. This life evolves into human-like life forms with the ability to think, have feelings and each individual have even got a consciousness. These simulated life forms begins to invent things and reaches our level of technology. Would it be ethical to turn off the program? |

The people outside of the machine aren't supposed to interact with the people inside, though. At least, if you want it to be like our world.

| If absolutely everything froze for a while, you wouldn't know. It'd have no effect on the world, unless some part wasn't frozen (eg something was using real time). It's just like a save state, hence the joke. | |||
