Is it possible to make an event so that after you talk to somone for the first time they will say somthing different the next time?

For example

First time: Go find the crystals!

second time: Have you found the crystals yet?

First Thread in game creation!

Pretty simple. In the event make two pages. In the first one you would make it say the message "Go find the crystals", but also make it activate a switch, for example "crystals". On the second page on the left should be a drop down list so that the switch has to be activated in order for it to appear. On this page you make the message "Have you got the crystals yet?"

I'll be able to answer the question a bit better if I had RPGMXP on this comp... downloading now...

You'll probably also want to know how to make the game know if you have got the crystals?

EDIT: Okay, just installed it. You two pages should look like this (Preconditions can be set at the top left.):

Page 1
Preconditions - None

Event Commands
Message: Collect the crystals
Switch: [0001:crystals] = ON

Page 2
Preconditions - the top most box should be checked, and it should have the switch "0001: crystals" in the box.

Event Commands
Message: Have you collected the crystals yet?

If you need any further help, don't hesitate to contact me through this thread, PM, AIM or MSN.

Thank you for helping!

Instead of making a new thread I will post this question here to.

Can you create cut scenes? This would make my RPG the best it could possubly be.

1) Set up hundreds of move events and messages.
2) Learn RGSS and use it to play an AVI.

They took out the option to play AVIs in XP sadly.

Thank you very much!

I don't think I will go to an earlier version of RPG maker so I guess I will sadly have to live with my cut sceneless hack.LOL

Eh, do what I do and make FF6 style cutscenes. You just need to make about 300 move events and 30 message events. It gets tedious but skilled people can make them in about 15-20 minutes.

Cutscenes, dialogue, the whole whatnot is easy once you know stuff like switches and variables. Variables are the key to the universe, you will learn someday. Make your own day/night system, banking system, battle system, pacman, whatever... hell, make an exact copy of the Majora's Mask 3-day system if you wanted to. Many don't believe it but RPG Maker XP is capable of quite a lot.

I'm a major veteran in the RPG Maker community (can't say I'm much of the community though since I don't participate in any of them, I'm just a private user). Try twinking around with variables and stuff and try to learn them, they're like mathematical switches.

i've got a few questions also:-
1) how do you get rid of the black mark around trees and so forth?
2) how do you make it so that you can go inside buildings?
3) can you change what the characters look like?
4) how do you place items?
5) how do you place other people?
6) how do you make it so that you can go from one map to another?
