Well I have the Pimsleur's Japanese set that would usually cost $900 total. Let's just say it didn't cost me anything.

If you're gonna go Gundam, do NOT start out with Wing, G, or Seed. They all suck and really are NOT good representations of gundam. Although, that is not to say that all of the good gundam anime/manga are the same.

Start with the original Mobile Suit Gundam(watch the movie trilogy instead of the entire series, it's easier on a nub). It's a MUST.

Some titles that everyone overlooked include Maison Ikkoku, Aura Battler Dunbine(if you like Gundam) and City Hunter.(Just looking around the room at my anime dvd collection)

If you like boxing, go for Ashita no Joe. Or even if you don't like boxing. It's one hell of a rollercoaster ride. Good luck finding fansubs, though.

Fushigi Yuugi? Ehh.... Really overrated, the majority of the characters take a backseat to Miaka and Tamahome.

Galaxy express 999 is VERY good, I love it to death. Matsumoto has made some really awesome anime including Battleship Yamato(Starblazers in the US), and the newest Captain Herlock Series(2002?) was also really well made.

Astro Boy was NOT the first anime, neither was it the first manga. But Tezuka's manga are great reads and very emotional.

GTO is awesome, hilarious, definitely worth buying the whole series. By the way, the prequel manga series, Shonan Junai-gumi is coming out in June. Can't wait.

I know I've said this a million times over, but the Scryed manga is much much much better than the anime. The story is better, the characters are better, the way they are fleshed out is better, and the artwork is superb. (I hate that artist, who was the same for Gundam Seed)

I dunno about Law of Ueki, while watching it, it seemed like I was watching a PSA.

Evangelion is worth checking out, not much else. Detective Conan is pretty interesting but never really appealed to me.

Definitely check out Lupin III movies/TV specials. Some are really good like Castle of Cagliostro (Miyazaki!!) while others suck ass like the Lupin: The Secret Files. (actually that's an OVA, but whatever) The first series(green jacket) is really good, but it's not out in the states. (Only the second, red jacket series is out)

Naruto is a very good example of what happens when there are too many episodes and not enough creativity put into the anime. It's just really sad. And don't get me started on the inconsistencies.

Has anyone said Eyeshield 21 or Yakitate!! Japan? Those two also rock. Big time. "Delicious Bread!" Priceless anime, that Yakitate is. Definately worth a checkout.

Bakuretsu God Finger, is what you meant. The dub of G Gundam has some pretty evil translations. One of my favorite gundam series in 08th MS Team though, only 12 eps (of which only the first 11 you should watch) and a neat little side story of what can happen to people during war.

Yea, people mentioned Yakitate!! Japan. Eyeshield 21 rocks!(look at sig)

I really like how Gundam sticks with the idea of there being no clear hero during war but seed really confuses itself with all the themes and misconstrues them and is just one big mess.

Yes. You'd see the different coats if you watched the different TV series or movies or specials.

The first TV series is known as the green jacket series as that's what he wears. Same goes for the second with the red jacket and the third with a pink jacket. Like

I said before, only the red jacket series is out in the states.

Just looking to see what people missed. Dont know if it was mentioned but Bleach is really good.

As for Slapping people who forgot hellsing. If alucard wasnt a cool character that series would have nothing. Other than alucards cool as a cat attitude it sucked balls it definatly should have stayed a Manga. Luckily the guys that made it realise this and are remaking it to follow the manga

Repent! Repent!

Just on a side note, I thought that I'd toss in that reading the Full Metal Alchemist and Evangelion Manga is much more worth it than watching the show. Different perspectives, and the stories frequently take different turns.

Yes... I think I found both of those had slightly darker perspectives than the anime series.

Fruits Basket is another good series to read the manga of. The anime is overall quite cutesy; but the manga shows the darker side of the Juunishi's curse and delves more seriously into the emotions of the characters.

I think lately I've been enjoying manga though a hell of a lot more than anime.

They're not remaking it. They're making a 4 episode OVA called Hellsing Ultimate. That contains the arc from the manga with the vampire nazis. Which is (like many other people) my favorite part of the story.

I can't believe nobody's even mentioned Get Backers yet...

It's the best anime ever made ever. Well, that one's up for debate (Mainly 'cause I'm a big FLCL/Trigun fan), but it's definitely an extremely high-quality anime. Great art style, loveable characters, a well-written, long running story with plenty of episodic adventures to break up the tale, and some really neat takes on japanese pop culture and culture in general (a lot of the plot revolves around art and society). The manga's a good read, too.

And Seras Victoria isn't a reason to watch it? Even if Alucard wasn't nearly as bad'ass, the plot's solid, the animation is superb, the English dub isn't half bad, and the action sequences are amazing. The soundtrack is also incredible (playing Shine now, as a matter of fact). If you can give me reasons why Hellsing "sucked balls", as you so crudely put it, then maybe I won't consider your points to be so totally invalid.
And Bleach is overrated. Seems like another Inuyasha knock off to me. Good production value, it's just the storyline is a bit blah and overused.

Bleach compared to Inu-Yasha? There more parallels between Bleach and Yuu Yuu Hakusho if anything.

The Kenshin manga is better than the TV series partly for the Jinchuu arc.

Spirited Away was awesome. When anyone challenges me on Super Smash Brothers Melee, I use the name Haku and dominate. Blood the Last Vampire was also good, but I have never heard of Perfect Blue. What is it about?
