I left this thread until the editor comes out, but i'm here to post the 64th page!! =D yay!!

I have to ask... Is the wing cap switch level the same as the wing cap level where you see mario falling? or are 2 different ones? if so, then is there an object or level propertipes that makes what's mario current state when the level starts? I want to know so I can investigate in this and look what makes mario be metal mario at the start of metal cap level, or other things. I think the start is defined my the mario object anyways... but if the editor shows the mario object itself or can edit level propertipes, then don't tell me becouse I want to see the features of the editor when i get it ok? ^^

will the movie be narrorated by VL or just showing him using it. Either way is good, but if he narrorated it we could understand exactly what he is doing.

P.S. no spamfests just cause it's the 64'th page. Kay?

I'm gonna be reading a bit more of this thread so if I do find it I will say so

Anyway I got the Tile Molester to be a bit easier to use although it will be annoying to find the exact texture I want however, thats life What I dont like about Tile molester is that its hard to find exact textures (and when u do u might not even be sure its the one ur looking for). And its hard to get pics to fit in exactly. For example, while having a bit of fun for experimenting, I decided to use a bit of humor and make the entrance to the bomb omb lvl painting in a pic of lil jon This is the original pic i got. And ull see from the screens I uploaded that is not what i got even though I tried to make the pic fit the exact size of the portrait Plus when trying to highlight and place something, you cant be very spacific. It might jump a few spaces making it very hard to be precise.

I really dont mean to be a little whining complaining jerky nub, but its true If anyone has any tips plz say so

and again, thanks to everyone for helping me get started.

---edit---

Hmmm I realized that the way i stretched the picture was bad so I took the pic of the lil jon one off to save room. Now all I have to work on is getting good quality .

The Movie Tutorial I'm making as we speak is going to be both Narrated, Subtitled, and will show amovie demonstration step-by-step.
Since the current voice actor was unable, I'm looking for a new one now..

Hello, friends and foes Happy 64th page

First I'd like to mention, the editor cannot be delayed, since there's no release date set. The issues I described in that long post are not that hard to fix, just hard to explain

I'm still working on making a movie of the editor, I did a few experiments but I'm not sure yet what I'll put in the movie. Any suggestions?

Screen recording is a little slow when recording the whole window, so I may only show the 3d viewport. One of the reason the movie is still not done is that while trying to make it, I got the incentive of fixing bugs and implementing missing features like copy/paste and revert, so I guess it's not a bad thing, as the editor is progressing.

Next week I'll have a week of from work so I'll have much more free time to try to finish version 1.0.

I may release a pre-release beta with saving disabled (which is a good way to prevent this version from spreading all over the web). I still wont commit to even an approximation of the release date, for reasons I mentioned before. It doesn't mean it will be released in a long time either.

Aside from that, any suggestions on what should I show in the movie? Any levels you'd like to see featured?

As for me narrating the movie, it's actually not such a bad idea. I could describe features and things happening in the movie. But... I'll probably put the M64 credits music instead

Well, i think that a video is more a thing for thoes who cannot wait and are peing all over themselves over just the slightest date/rumor on it's release perhapse... i mean... a video tutorial seems more practical then a preview... and there's alotta people that'll do that when it is released anyhow... Common... there's gotta be -someone- who whould go through that trouble for -at least- the basic functions... something -you- yourself shouldn't worry about, Tone, being the author of the basic code and interface and not to metion the part of reverse engineering the ROM's data (enless that was someone else... dunno)... So that leaves me with the other mentioned... A preview... if you think the bugs in version 1.0 can be worked out easily, then even if it were a little awhile longer, it won't be to long technically... So a preview could just be what you've already been showing us... Just... in motion... open a level... edit... um... something... Show the interface... Nothing special, i'd think...

Don't be to creative, seing as the creativity is in the project itself (^-^) Time spent on somehting good (the video), but not as good as bear essentials (the project at hand)... Do we -need- a preview if it won't be tomutch longer? will it be alot longer? am i miss-posting in misunderstanding to a previous post?

We're patiant, you're perstant enough... So if a prewiew is needed, like i say... just do something cool... Something in visual answer to some of the questions people asked perhapse... that way they can see the ease, or difficulty of things... then they can give sugesstions, ask more questions, pee themselves 'cause a video might make them more excited, post loong posts like this one... ... ... Hmm... Sorry 'bout that... ANYHOW! um... Yeah.

Just make your normal screenshots in motion... nothibng to flashy... flashy will probably speak for itself in the program itself (^_~)

Hope this can help even in the littlest (^o^;

Okay i'm done sorry...

Excellent idea! You should totally do that.

Well, the demonstrations should be always clear.. Not anything like you just make some quick hacking, and you know what you're doing. But keep in mind that we don't know nothing, so my advice is to keep it slow and clear. Haste makes waste

Goomba Fondue, you're weird, not necessarily in a bad way, and you don't have to be sorry about it

I'm taking some of your suggestions into account...

Here's a little "teaser" video in mpeg-4 format. It's around 3.6 megs so it's even suitable for dial-up.

Edit: Raccoon Sam I just saw your post after posting mine.

I planned to do something clearer, this is just a little demo movie. It's not easy to coordinate a demonstration session and do it without messing up, it's like movie acting with the mouse pointer

Shiryu I'll try to answer your questions:

Is the wing cap switch level the same as the wing cap level where you see mario falling?

Same level.

if so, then is there an object or level propertipes that makes what's mario current state when the level starts?

I didn't find it yet.

Nice video, but something bugs me about the vertical scrollbars.
In Mac OS, they're usually "Down arrow >> Up arrow >> Scrollbar", but in your editor, they're "Down arrow >> Scrollbar >> Up arrow" if you get what I mean. The best ASCII example I can give is Horizontally.

Ah yes... Button-bar-button is the Windows order. Linux too I think, but that depends.

In fact, I'll trump you all: my (emulated) Mac had button-button-bar-button-button!

Raccoon Sam, since when are you a Mac user? Because the Mac OS had button-bar-button scroll bars since 1984... They were the default until Mac OS X.

Other optional variations were added in Mac OS 8-9, like up-down-bar, and a hidden feature enabled up-down-bar-up-down scroll bars like Kyoufu Kawa had.

In Mac OS X, by default you get the up-down-bar setup you seem to use. These are nicknamed "NeXT style arrows" since this is how they were in NeXTStep

Open System Preferences/Appearance and you'll see that the first option is what I used: "Place Scroll Arrows: At top and bottom". Like I said, this one is just like the classic Mac OS scroll bar. (Please don't call this "the Windows order")

Double double arrows are possible in OS X (up-down-bar-up-down). Open the terminal and type:

defaults write -g AppleScrollBarVariant -string DoubleBoth

And hit return. Relaunch your apps and voila! Double double arrows!

Other keywords can be used instead of DoubleBoth:

DoubleMax: Default in Mac OS X (what you use)
Doublemin: Single arrow pair like DoubleMax, but at the opposite side of the bar. Hidden feature.
Single: Like Classic Mac OS/Windows: up-bar-down (available in System Prefs / Appearance)

ANYHOO... Like I stated before, my editor will use standard native scroll-bars from your own OS, and they will act just like you set them to in your OS preferences. I don't have anything to do about how the scroll bar behaves in the editor, it's your OS that decides.

By the way there's a little mistake in the video demo: the four towers at the end should have yellow boxes as they are selected. There's currently a bug with the paste command, that deselects (visually) a selection after pasting.
