Is there enough information throughout this thread to tell me how to use it when it is released in the beta version? Or mabe an FAQ. I was also wondering where to get a good SM64 rom, because I cant find one that works with the emulator, project64. Thanks for your help.

Sorry, but Rom Requests are NOT allowed on this board. Just advising you, as you seem like an alright guy...so try not to do it again.

If you read through the middle section of this thread onwards, you should find out all you need to know about the editor.

And from what I understand, theres no release date as of yet. VL-Tone will release it when he feels it is ready, and when he wants. And I dont think anyone should be pestering him about it.

Meh, I agree.

This is the reason I'm glad BGNG hasn't released his F-Zero X editor to a wider audience - it would cause a whole load of trouble on this board. But, the bigger problem is that SM64 is a much more popular game, just like SMW is. So there's going to be a hell of a lot of newbies coming onto sites like this, with no previous rom hacking knowledge thinking they can do anything with the editor, when you just...cant. And even when you can, it's going to take seriously long, hard work and dedication.

Yes, I supose I am one of those newbies, though I dont neccicarily think I can just "use" the editor. I read some of what VL has said and it seems quite complicated to me, escecially since I have almost no rom hacking experience whatsoever, and dont even know how to use lunar magic well! I decided I would commit some of my time to this and learn. It will be my only project for a long time, I'm sure of it.

first of all welcome ajstal8, you seem a nice person, not a n00b ^^
as rich said, there is information about how to use the program around the middle of the thread, and i think it'll come with a help file and a faq.
roms requests aren't allowed in this forum, but you have to find a .v64 or a .z64 rom since these are the only ones that will work with the editor. (not at all but whatever)

and some things seem complicated to me too but if you put effort in it and dedication you'll understand it ^^

second, I think is better to stop with this thing of iGod and the newbs and talk only about sm64 hacking.

back on topic: I've played around with the textures again, I never thougt that RPGmaker chipsets would look good in sm64 XD but for some reason it adds blue lines to grey.

If ajastal PM's me i'll give him a site. Hopefully that's allowed. And everyone I'm sorry but I mean't to put "let's get back on topic now" after my post mocking Igod (sorry) but from now on Let's all agree not to mock or flame Newbs. I know it will be hard but we can do it and it will make this thread a better place.

Ah, the n00biness... I suggest the first time the editor is run, it pops up a BIG message box saying something like this:

1) This version of the editor can only move and/or swap the dynamic/2D objects found in levels, swap (NOT EDIT) music, and rearrange warps. It can NOT edit the level polygons itself, add or edit powerups, characters, music, graphics, models, ASM, or create new levels.

2) Do NOT ask the author or Acmlm's Board for ROMs.

At least a message like that might weed out a few 'tards. For the beta you might even say not to ask how it works or something along those lines.

YOU CAN NOT IMPORT MODELS, AND YOU PROBABLY WON'T EVER BE ABLE TO.

Textures can be edited already using the decompressor and Tile Molester.

Dont worry, I already found one, after slaving over a hot computer all day! XD

So in the editor, you cant edit polygons, and suchwich, but you can edit textures and add/delete objects? Also all text ingame? This also means you cant edit the map itself, such as changing the ground level and making walls?

Even if it is so, it would still be a great editor.

No, the ground is polygons. Things like coins, enemies, and ! boxes are objects.

This effectively means that you can "remix" Mario 64, creating new star objectives for the original levels.

Ok, so I cant edit ground or walls. Technically, I could create walls with unmovable brick object if there is one, such as a metal box, right? (unless they are pushable) Of course, this would be pretty strange and quite messy looking. =p

Is there a restriction limit to the amount of objects in a level, because of getting laggy?

You can't add/remove objects, only replace them.

And besides, metal boxes are, if I remember correctly, movable.

Oh sorry I mispoke about the "add remove objects". I just meant getting an object on the map deleted for remove, and for adding taking an object allready in the game and adding it to a level. (Unlike Bowser and bosses that would mess up the levels)
