The layer 3 text uses colours 19, 1A, and 1B, but I want it to use colours 09, 0A, and 0B. Can somebody help me please? |

This is not really helpful, but I think 2bpp tiles use 8 4-color palettes, which start with color 0. The first color of the 4 in the palette is always transparent.
If the message text uses colors 09, 0A and 0B (08 is transparent), that is palette number 2 (hex). And if you want to use 19, 1A and 1B, that would be palette number 6. But I don't know if there's a single byte that sets the palette for the whole text, or if each tile has its palette (like in the status bar editor). And most important, I don't know where they're stored. Not really helpful, sorry |

Try this:
If you can find out where in VRAM the Layer 3 tilemap is stored, (try using the search feature in a hex editor on a ZNES savestate), find where in the tilemap the message box text is, then search for that string in the SMW ROM. with any luck, the data for the messages is stored in 2-byte format, and not just the low byte. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid I can't help you over the internet, you'd need to send your hack to me. |
