Katanas aren't swords because there are multiple types of katanas, katanas are a catagory, just like swords, knives, and daggers.

However, if you do want to get more specific, katanas, along with sabres and others, are actually back swords.

Things can be in more than one catagory. And catagories themselves can be in catagories.

The catagory of quadrilaterals contains rectangles. The catagory of rectangles contains squares. Your argument is bloody stupid.

If you were going to ask for my opinion on the matter of long daggers, I'd tell you it becomes a sword when the tang is constructed like the one in a sword. I'd also tell you that a long blade on a hilt with the tang construction of a dagger or knife is a bloody stupid idea.

I'm allowed to call things "bloody stupid" on Christmas because blood has a festive color.

Square's just happen to fall under the same rules as rectangles, but are in fact rhombas(rhombi? rhombases?) also.

Uh... right. Your only argument for katanas not being swords seemed to be that katanas were a category of their own. Squash Monster's point was that a category simply describes a set of characteristics, and everything with those characteristics falls into that category. Therefore, something can be described as falling into multiple categories, and entire categories can fall into other categories.
