I'm posting this in here as opposed to Pokemon hacking mainly because it would NOT get the recognition it deserves there.

Some of you may know me, some of you may not, some more than others. Either way, it should be pretty known that I'm not what you'd call a "n00b" and more or less know what I'm talking about. That in mind, I'd like to clue some of you in on my latest project.

As some of you may remember, some time ago I had been hard at work on my Pokemon hacks, known as Luna and Sol. These hacks were more of a restoration, a fan service--what Fire Red was to the original games, these were to the Gold/Silver series. I set out to make the ultimate Pokemon game, incoorperating everything I could while still making the game seem as official and reasonable as possible ("U CAN CATCH EVRY POKEYMAN!!1" was not a feature, for instance) and COMPATABLE with other official versions. Fact is, between changing between Fire Red and Emerald not once but twice, and the amount of overall reprogramming I found myself having to do to the engines themselves in order to incoorperate dire features from one game not included in the other, I decided to take a much more practical and overal better approach.

I am beginning now on a homebrew project of sorts. I am attempting to recreate not just the Pokemon engine, but rather the best of the Pokemon engine. Fire Red had so many nice features, many cosmetic, many not, that simply make the game much more enjoyable. Ruby/Emerald had a real time clock, berry growing systems, and even a phone registration system. Not only do these features make gameplay that much more enjoyable, but they were also a core aspect of--you guessed it, the original Gold/Silver. I hope to be able to recreate a Pokemon engine which incoorperates the best of every game--and from that, will come Luna and Sol. Who knows, the core engine itself could eventualy be released for thse with enough know-how to make their OWN Pokemon games in the future.

So why am I posting this? No, its not just to announce my project status. I'm seeking assistance. As I'm sure you all would know, the original Pokemon games (hell, any game for that matter) wasn't just created and designed by one sole person. They had teams of staff, each taking a small part and making the process move along more efficiently. Now I wish I could say that I'm the sort of person who can take on such a project all on my own, but lets not kid ourselves. I'm seeking the help of any willing and able people to be a part of a team to recreate the best of Pokemon's core engine, eventualy to become a full-blown game. I'm looking for anyone--programers, artists, any way you can help. By putting a team together, do NOT think that this is one of those "plz maek my hak 4 me" request/demand threads. Its simply just a request for assistance--I will be doing as much work as I can myself, of course (and have already started attempting to recreate a large chunk of the sound program using the official engine). I have official GBA development tools, so materials are of no problem--if you're on the team, I'll provide whatever you'll need (but please don't join just for the tools ) Such a large project is clearly not feasable by one man alone, so really. Any way you can assist, program, graphics, anything at all, will be seriously appreciated. I'll be doing anything I can as well, so this project will be recieving 110% from me, rest assured. Thanks for your time, and uh...yeah. Reply if you might be interested

Edit: Oh. And, I'm sure some of you'll have qualms about this simply because its Pokemon. Seriously, if you disregard the hype, the anime, or anything not remotly related to the games themself, its actualy quite a fun game series. Yeah

I might try this- I'm a fairly good programmer, and I can dissect a game in real-time to see how it works, so I'd be happy to help out with soe routines and that.

just point me in the direction of the nearest GBA hardware doc and compiler.

Ah, I was wondering what happened to this project. I was really quite looking forward to playing it, being that I really loved GSC. Unfortunately, as much as I love hacking the GBA, I have absolutely no programming skills whatsoever.

What I will do however is wish you the best of luck, and if you ever want someone to test it on the real hardware of a GBA, and trading with Sapphire and Fire Red, I can certainly provide such a function. Yell at me if you want someone to hurl ideas at.

So what you're saying is that you'll make a brand new, open Pokemon-like game? That's awesome, and good luck

I was dreaming a bit of doing a GBA project for a open Mario-like game, but then I thought there's more important things in my life, plus what spare time I have probably'll be sucked up by that SMW editor project. (Unless someone sets up the bomb)

I have no ROM hacking skill whatsoever, but if there's some way that I can help with music (though I dunno if there's some special way you have to write music into a GBA ROM or whatever), I'd be glad to.

Catch me on AIM at Wlokos7 sometime or PM me.

Isn't it illegal to use the official devkit? Anyway, have fun. I can provide damn near any info about G/S's innards if you need it. (I'll document it eventually, I promise. )

The only thing illegal I can think of is the means in which my provider obtained it we aren't doing it for profit so I really see no harm (and what the big N dosn't know certainly won't kill the sales for their non-existant game that should've been ).

The music is...well, more or less in a MIDI format, as thats what the engine itself uses. Its more of getting it into the style of the actual game, incorperating GBC channels and the stuff into it etc, that makes doing sound challenging. But if you think you might be interested, I'll definatly keep you in mind

Sukasa: I'll PM you soon with a link to the dev tools, it has all the hardware documentation and everything else imaginable

Well there's more than enough free devkits available... if you're using the official one, then I probably can't help due to compatibility issues (I don't know of any that cares to be code compatible with the official)

Well it depends really...I'd be using elements of the official kit such as the sound engine, which I'm more than certain can be encorperated into just about any enviroment. We don't necessarily have to use the official kit if it becomes too much of an issue for those involved. Really, whatever is easiest for the majority involved, then I'm more than happy to ajust development enviroments and whatnot.

I can start working out some musical ideas in midi after I know what sorts of music you'll be needing.

I'm good with HTML- I could help with the site, too.

EDIT: Oh, and since I'm good with VB6, I might be able to make some tools for use if we need them, for proprietary map data or whatever...

And I will be more than happy to alpha test/beta test etc.
And if anyone can give a link for a rom flash cartridge (the bigger the better)I could test it on actual gba hardware.

I'm just waiting to get word on where I can get the Devkit, then I'll be able to start doing a bit of work familiarizing myself with the GBA and how to work it.

Santamoto-kun, when can we get the like to the devkit?
