I think people would rather try to figure out the Xbox first before they even look into emulating the 360.

Doesn't the XBOX use x86-compatible code?

The last time I checked it was powered by a version of the Pentium-III proc.

Emulating brand-new consoles is downright piracy, and the "but it's old console nostalagia shit" doesn't apply. Go buy teh damn thing.

And, no. There is no emulator for even the normal X-Box.

MmmBULLSHIT

That rationale was always pretty crappy. Illegal is illegal is illegal. Now, granted, I personally don't care either way and am big on emulation myself, but don't delude yourself here.

The original Xbox is a cripled PC, I'm not sure about the Xbox 360 though.

Btw Xk, emulation of itself isn't piracy. Sure someone could do it... the uses beyond downloading games and playing them are few, but it doesn't make the emulator illegal. ("Hey, let's make the Internet illegal since it can be used for illegal purposes!!!!111")

I would imagine that sooner or later the Open XDK will be able to do 360 emulation stuff, so making an emulator out of that like the xbox emulator cxbx would probably not be harder then what the current xbox emulators are at..

Please tell me you´re kidding about this. I know that some consoles are emulated very fast but do you know how powerful your PC has to be to be able to run such an emulator?

And I think it´ll take time before someone even TRY to emulate it.

Actually, I can see that it's possible changing a current PowerPC emulator and making it run X-box 360 games but it would be alot of tinkering. Really. Hell, I don't recall seeing a X-box/Gamecube that runs at full speed yet... :/ Although I think there's more Gamecue emulators than X-box ones... hmm.

I don't think there's even an Xbox emu yet.

Also, am I the only one who uses emulators for perfectly legal development?

Doesn't the Xbox 360 have something like three cores in its CPU? No current PC could emulate that at an acceptable speed. I can't it being emulated anytime soon. Maybe in about twenty years.

theres actually 2

http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/xbox/

they both dont really run anything commercial..and they seem to be discontinued/iced/forgotten about...so it seems like they will just sit there...although 1 of them is open source..although even though its for windows only, I cant get it to compile even though it should

also, I found a 360 dump tool..

Yeah, but I read a really old PC mag tht had reviews of an up-and-coing Intel chip that had two physical cores and two virtual ones... One core for each of the XBOX 360's cores, AND an extra core to boot.

Yeah... The mag is about 6 months old, and said they'd be out in a few months... If they're not out look, I guess you could look for them in '06.

That's not a 360 emulator on the Xbox 360, just one for the original Xbox. See, the original was basically a cripled PC running some combination OS of NT4 and 2000 (actually this reduces the need for a traditional emulator, if you've got Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 or ReactOS, you can have a subsystem developed compatible with original Xbox programs, and that's actually being done currently; oh yeah it's also the reason you got BSOD-type thingers). The Xbox 360 is crippled PowerPC-64 hardware, running a ported Windows 2000 (also why it still crashes like the original).

Emulating Xbox 360 not only means having a speedy PPC64 emulator (PearPC might be a base, but it only does PPC32 right now), but also emulating all the necessary Windows 2000/DirectX APIs that the games use. Screw emulation, it might be possible with a great deal of work to port ReactOS to PPC64 and develop an Xbox 360 subsystem on it. Or even making a virtualizer on PPC64 and somehow getting the operating system out of the Xbox 360 and getting it to work (did I mean Xbox's hardware is crippled, it'll require a few hacks to make it work).

Why the fuck would an XBox 360 contain an XBox 360 emulator?
