Thanks It's still a little early for a demo... very few levels, and lots of things aren't done - like the title screen, intro, etc. And I'd like to advance more on the storyline before the first release.

I hope to introduce a couple of innovative ideas, and make the levels interactive -- for example, you can climb those trees and light poles.

This sounds like it's going to be a great hack. I really can't wait to play it.

BTW, wanna be friends? I could use some tips on hacking...

You have originality down, jp. The graphics look alright for total custom. Don't give up though, I see a pretty good hack in the future.

I notice you have 1 life on all of those. Is that the same level, or do you start out with one...or what?

Heh yes, you start with only one life. The first levels work as an intro you can play.

All the 'intro' levels are very easy, except for one where the girl's village is destroyed by tanks. That is a traumatic event that defines her future, so I thought it would be nice if the player had to pass that one HARD level with only one life... Then the difficulty level drops back and increases gradually.

And you don't get any powerups early on! You only get powerups when the girl grows up later in the story.

That actually works well into the story. It makes it more realistic.

Wow -- looks pretty well-done there, jp. You've been working quite hard on this hack.

You're right; I thought it was something else when I first saw the screenshots. xD

I don't think that any bad comments will go on this thread ever, unless there is a flamer or spammer.

You're right Chris, I've been working for 3 or 4 months... and only have 4 levels
But things should go faster now that I have some GFX done.

I hope it will feel like a different game in the end, my main problem is the music, which is so SMW ... When Solar Soundtrack is released, I'll add all-new music.

BTW, the reason the backgrounds look simple is because of the way I'm using the 16x16 tiles and palettes... I have 6 map16 pages of 'building blocks' in different palettes. That means I don't get much space for specific, detailed objects, but I gain great flexibility. For example, you can use the building blocks I used for the tank to build a completely different object, like a plane or a truck, combining 6 palettes. It will not look as hot as other hacks, but will open up some gameplay possibilities.

Yeah, It doesn't look SMWish at all. And, the music doesn't seem like it would go with the game at all. It should be more "sadified".

The only thing I don't like is that there is fog in every screen, but hey, it looks good as that.

Nice idea. Original and custom graphics. I say, looks nice. Have to play it to say otherwise, though.

The fog actually matches well. It looks like clouds.

You're right, I use fog as clouds, and to add more depth, because it moves in a different plane. But I'll try not to overuse it, or use it subtly.

Unpredictable. Watch your backs. Or not. Whichever. I want Metal Gear Solid 4 so badly.

Hey Sparx, you just spammed the hell out over here.

jp, one question, what was that tank originally?

The tank? It was nothing it's made out of 'building blocks' I made of different shapes.
Some details like the bolts and the 'X' are in the first layer.
