Dungy threw the flag and really had no choice but to since the game was over with that interception. Desperation move that surprisingly worked. Cower had no reason to challenge since the call was originally for his team, and it makes no sense to have a coach challenge a challenge. The official's already looked at the replay once (and several times over), so what use is it having him do it again if he's made up his mind?

Especially considering the official already overturned the call on the field. As that requires indisputable video evidence, Cowher would need to hope the official would find indisputable video evidence that successfully disputes the earlier indisputable video evidence, which we all know was wrongly interpreted.

back to the other NFL circus--the front office circus

Mike McCarthy (sp?), offensive coordinator of the NFL's worst offense last season with the 49ers was named the new coach of Green Bay

Norv Turner is hired to replace the aformentioned departed coordinator. Back in 1999, Norv Turner was Nolan's boss in Washington

Steelers leading 24-3 at halftime... unless we have a repeat of last week (i.e. Steeler defense starts letting up and/or bad officiating), it appears we now have 1 wild card team in the super bowl...

EDIT: we do have 1 wild card team in the super bowl as Steelers beat the Broncos 34-17.

At least one of the teams I rooted for made it to the Superbowl (RIP, Colts and Patriots season)

So far, the Seahawks are leading the Panthers 27-7.

Go Panthers!

Or not.

I didn't like the Steelers and Broncos game. I don't think the Broncos played as good as they are. The Steelers deserved to win the game, they played much better, and at the end, when the Broncos had no time outs, they pretty much gave up. There was still a little hope but they wasted the rest of the time, many may disagree with me on this. I just hope next year will be better, teams make mistakes or just aren't clicking and screw up, just gotta learn from those mistakes and try again next year.

Seems it's probably going to be the Seahawks and Steelers, I'd rather see the Seahawks win, but on the other hand, it's Bettis' last year, so it would be good either way. It's gonna be a good Super Bowl, hopefully.

seahawks win 34-14 i wonder if the panthers had a missed field goal...

seahawks versus the steelers... I'd like the seahawks to win (first time teams are fun to root for), but I think the steelers have the grit to pull their 4th straight upset and make even more history.

Steelers all the way, for Bettis' sake of course.

You know, now that I stated this, they will lose.

I know for sure.

And no comment on the fact that both games had almost the exact final score.

So, uh, when'd the Niffle draft the Jerome Bettis Must Get His Ring rule? Pass interference, phantom TD's (to be fair, they were correct to not overturn Roethlisberger's scramble, as there wasn't proof he didn't score)... Seattle got jobbed, but the Steelers probably would've won anyway.

i only watched a grand total of 30 seconds on TV, listened about 10 minutes on the radio, and saw it on the internet for only 5 seconds...

I heard Hasselback's 4 quarter interception and at that point, I knew it was over...

I didn't watch it at all, I simply checked ESPN.com twice. Once while the game was in progress, then later after ti finished. I was rooting for the Steelers though.

I was watching on a big projection screen. He didn't.

I hate the Steelers, specifically Joey Porter, but damn, that was one awful superbowl.

Roethlisberger was what, 9-21? The Bus only ran out the clock...Alexander was silent...Hasselbeck somehow threw it 40 times? Where did 20 of them go?

All in all, rather disappointing.

Some entertaining comercials though, "Hey guys, hurry up, the magic fridge is back."

And way to go JB, former ND guy from my dorm, we were all excited for that win. It was a very bizzare game, considering how much it felt like the Seahawks controlled the field but never converted when they should've scored.

Final score:

Seahawks 10
Levy and his officiating crew, 21

Three BLOWN calls that DIRECTLY involved points. Not saying that it was stolen per-se, but the Seahawks would have had a legitimate shot at the game if the calls had been made properly. Awful, terrible, embarassing game. I wanted to see Bettis get a ring, but not like this.

Nielsen ratings are out and this super bowl ranks 2nd all time of average viewers, only series finale of M-A-S-H did better. 140.1 million people watched some part of the super bowl, only the 2004 super bowl between new england and carolina did better.

for such a horrible game, there sure were a lot of viewers...or maybe it was watched mostly because of the rolling stones (which i've never been fond of--but that is something for a different thread)

I don't understand how that happened at all.

There was no real interesting plotlines, no drama at all, it wasn't a good game...

You would expect superbowls like Titans / Rams (amazing game), Pats / Rams (ditto), Pats / Eagles (two really big draws in terms of fans)

There was the whole Bettis thing. And maybe the fact that both coasts were represented? Or maybe football's just getting more and more popular?

Also, there was the history in the making of the Steelers being the only 6th seed to get into the super bowl and then they won on top of that.
