Well yeah it's that time of year.

10. Wolfmother - Wolfmother - Yeah, couldn't not throw this in cos it's good, though I'm getting bloody sick of hearing about it.

9. Beck - Guero - Maybe it's not new territory, but it's still Beck and the man's just that good. Guero sounds like a return to form to me, good to see he's not all sad now.

8. Decoder Ring - Fractions - Probably the best thing released from this country this year, Wolfmother's cool but they're still just basically a Zeppelin cover band that doesn't actually do covers.

7. Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible (10th anniversary re-release) - Yeah it's a re-release, but I only heard it this year and it's fucking brilliant.

6. Mountain Goats - Sunset Tree - Still amazes me how much emotion and energy he can wrest from just an accoustic guitar and some background instrumentation.

5. Architecture in Helsinki - In Case We Die - I take back what I said about Decoder Ring, this was the best Australian release of the year. An octet on triple espresso with a list of instruments as long as your arm, just pure bliss. BLISS.

4. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Yes, I'm a sucker for things that're obviously influenced by Talking Heads, and the fact that they sound like a really cool/uncool fusion of both the Heads and Neutral Milk Hotel makes it even better.

3. Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs - The man's a revelation, everyone should love him.

2. the Arcade Fire - Funeral - Yeah it's probably a 2004 lbum but it didn't see the light of day in Australia til early '05. Great stuff, powerful and moving, which is difficult, if you're not a metal dork prone to being "moved" by metal.

1. The Decemberists - Picaresque - We need more storytelling bands. The Bagman's Gambit sends chills down my spine every time I listen to it. Album of the year, for me.

Margot and the Nuclear So & So's - The Dust of Retreat : Great band that I heard during the warm up act for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. I'd go so far as to say that they should've switched roles with CYHSY.

The Game - The Documentary : Very good rap album, much better than 50 Cent's new P.O.S.

Gavin Degraw - Chariot/Stripped : Great mellow album with an accoustic version of every song.

Snoop Dogg - Rhythm & Gangsta (the masterpiece) : New Tracks from Snoop, what could be better (definately not his best stuff though).

Jason Mraz - Mr. A-Z : If you got the three pre-release tracks off iTunes then this album is even better cause only one of the songs actually made it to the album. Great follow up to a tremendous first album.

Fall Out Boy - From Under The Cork Tree : Really getting into this bad recently.

1. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! | Best album of the year.

2. Craig Cardiff - Bombshelter Livingroom | No one I have talked to know about him. That is very sad.

3. Sufjan Stevens - Illnois | Very good album. Even better than Michigan.

4. Devin Davis - Lonely People Of The World Unite

5. Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning

6. Devendra Banhart - Cripple Crow

7. I Am Kloot - Gods And Monsters As good as their other two albums. That's very good.

8. Sigur Rós - Takk... Their best since Ágćtis Byrjun.

9. Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better Not as good as their first album, but definitely very good.

10. Gorillaz - Demon Days | This is a fun and good album that I have listened to alot and not got bored of yet.

Commented on those that I felt needed comments.
I think that list is about right but I might go back and change it later.

The Mars Volta: Frances the Mute

The introduction of singing in spanish is a major plus. It is essentially more fined tuned than the first CD, De-Loused in the Comatorium which isn't such a good thing. I liked how the first one rocked a bit more. One can consider a lot of filler in Frances but overall it flows considerably well.

System of a Down: Mezmerize/Hypnotize

I'm counting the CD's as one, which is what they should've done. Each CD on its own right is good at best, but had they combined the two albums, taken out some of the filler, it would've been considered in higher regard than their Toxicity album. Still one of the better mainstream albums of the year though.

Coldplay: X & Y

Okay, a small step back from their A Rush of Blood to the Head album but it is still good. A bit boring, and nothing really stands out to make the album great but it's Coldplay. I like them. Screw you.

Gorillaz: Demon Dayz

One of the surprises of the year. Quite good, and surprassed my initial expectations of it going to suck. 'Feel Good Inc.' is one kick ass song.

The White Stripes: Get Behind Me Satan

I ran out of things to say so......It's a good album.

Honorable mention:

Franz Ferdinand: You Could Have It So Much Better (It was better with them.....)
Kanye West: Late Registration (Good Hip-Hop album. His ego swelled up for a good reason)
NIN: With Teeh (I liked Fragile a bit more)

There are a lot of albums I haven't gotten yet. The new Paul McCartney 'Chaos and Creation in the Backyard' is one of them. Oh and here is my guilty pleasure. The new Korn album. Not really fucking great, barely slides into 'good' but I like it. So yeah...

10: Gorillaz - Demon Days
Nice songs, nice sound. Feel Good Inc. has the ability of being an overplayed radio hit that you just don't get tired of listen to.

9: Kent - Du & Jag Döden
What can I say? It's poppy, yes, but it's classy, and dreamy, and definitely something to get lost in. Besides, Joakim Berg's voice is beautiful.

8: Institute - Distort Yourself
Sure, grunge died more than 10 years ago, and sure, Gavin Rossdale was never the greatest of the grunge heroes, but he constantly proves that there is room for his music, and Distort Yourself is probably his greatest work since 1994's Sixteen Stone.

7: The Chemical Brothers - Push The Button
So I've never been a big Club/Dance fan, but The Chemical Brothers is something special. Sure, their hit single Galvanize got tedious after a while, but this album has some gems that are great for their purpose, dancing, working out, driving, and, ironically enough, relaxing.

6: Calexico/Iron and Wine - In The Reins
(Technically an EP, but what the heck) Beautiful, laid-back, relaxing. I can get lost in this, listening to it over and over, before I realize I've heard through it 50 times and should have gone to bed.

5: Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies To Paralyze
When I first heard this album, I was heavily disappointed. I saw it as Josh Homme's worst work ever. As time progressed and I gave it a couple of more chances, I realized it was actually a lot better than I first thought. Now it has grown on me to such an extent that I must say it's probably QotSA's best album.

4: Garbage - Bleed Like Me
Don't listen to the negative reviews. So what if Garbage does make their sound a little too ninetiesish. The nineties were a good decade, and this is a good album. It's been played over and over on my iPod on the bus to the university this year.

3: Starsailor - On The Outside
Starsailor takes a small step away from their mellow music and makes an album that is more rock than their previous two. It really, really works. This is a fantastic album, rivalizing 2001's debut album Love Is Here for Starsailor's best album.

2: Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
Foo Fighters' best ever album, both sides, the rock and the acoustic, work out great. This one may be listened to over and over.

1: Oasis - Don't Believe The Truth
Not many surprises here. For those who know me, this one was pretty much given from the start. Anyway, Noel and Liam reestablish themselves as the gods or rock'n'roll, this time accompanied by Zak Starkey, as well as Gem and Andy Bell from 1999, making the band more professional, and less ladsy. All in all, this album is their best since 1995's (What's The Story) Morning Glory?.

Teh Vars Molta - Franciz Teh Moot. No contest.

And I know its still 2005, but I can almost safely say that next year's best album will be Radiohead's new one. The early versions of the songs sound incredible, and if past early songs (eg. Motion Picture Soundtrack Early Acoustic Version) are anything to go by, the finished studio versions will be orgasmic.

I'll do my top 12:

Newly added: Curtain Call by Eminem - I just added this and I don't feel like going through the list and adding this. A great way to finish of his carreer... I think. Basically the Greatest Hits for Eminem. Can someone reasure me if this is his last CD or not?

11) Mmhmm by Relient K - Not really a great CD but has some good songs like Be My Escape.

10) Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance - I'm not really a fan of this goth music but this one caught my attention. Definetly a great CD

9) Mezmerize by System of a Down - This was their first release this year but wasn't as good as Hypnotize. Even though it has some of my favorite songs such as BYOB and Violent Pornography it still isn't as good as Hypnotize.

8) What the Game's Been Missing by Juelz Santana - Has my current favorite Rap song There it go. I like his music but definetly not one of my higher favorites.

7) The Massacre by 50 Cent - Best Rap CD of '05. I used to dislike 50 Cent before I heard this CD which is now one of my favorites.

6) Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes - Good songs by a good band. Not quite as good as the previous CD but it's still good.

5) From Under the Cork Tree by Fallout Boy - Possibly the best CD by Fallout Boy yet. Doesn't really get much better than this.

4) MTV Ultimate Mash-ups Presents: Jay Z and Linkin Park - Great mix of music. Some of my favorite songs are on this CD.

3) Siren Song of the Counter Culture by Rise Against - Great music for those who like rock or are somewhat political.

2) Hypnotize by System of a Down - Definetly better than Mezmerize even though that has some of their better songs. Hypnotize is possibly the best System of a Down song yet though

1) Demon Days - Gorrilaz - Possibly the greatest CD of all time. Has my second favorite song, Feel Good Inc., and has a lot of other great songs.

5 - "Mesmerize/Hypnotise" by System of a Down (no comments)
4 - "Leaving All Behind" by Cellador (Cool band, seriously)
3 - "Are You Dead Yet?" by Children of Bodom (Not their best album, but most albums out this year suck, anyway)
2 - "Octavarium" by Dream Theater (title track = pwn)
1 - "Keeper of The Seven Keys - The Legacy" by Helloween (by far the best album released this year. Helloween is standing strong)

Nah, I'm pretty sure Arctic Monkeys will be competing for next year's greatest album. That, or the Oasis B-sides album if Oasis actually does release that album next year.

First off, that isn't Eminem's last CD. It's simply a greatest hits. He has already dispelled rumors of ending his career now. It would be a shame if he did, because Encore really isn't an album I would end my career with.

And Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance was released in 2004 not 2005. (June 8, 2004 to be specific) It gained popularity this year. I am under the impression for an album to be considered 'the best of whatever year' it needs to be released in that year. Because I can simply say that The Beatle's "One" is the best album of 2005 because I bought it in 2005 and enjoyed it.

Same thing applies to the album Collision Course By Jay-Z and Linkin Park. It was released on November 30, 2004.

If an album gets released late in '04 and makes a significant impact in '05, I'd say it's gotta be fair game to be counted on '05 list-mania. I'd include Three Cheers on my top 10 of '05 list as well.

Not to get technical but....

Okay I will.

Since when has June been considered part of the end of the year?

The album Collision Course album, I can understand that. Nov 30, close to the end but June?

Bah. Just ignore my ramblings. I like to get technical and shit. Damn OCD.

It's moments like these that make me wonder, what would dr.jayphd Jesus do.

Green Day - American Idiot
Does this count? It was released in September of last year.. whatever. This is by far, without a doubt, the greatest cd I've ever listened to. From the moment I got it, I rarely went anywhere without it. Every single song is amazing, the "story" or "rock opera" as some call it is incredibly easy to identify with and enjoy... there's nothing I don't like about it. If I wasn't big enough of a Green Day freak before this album, I certainly am now.

Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better
This album is awesome in every way. I liked Franz previous to this release, but it only made me love them more. Very very good.

My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
I remember really disliking this band at first. But eventually the songs grew on me, my friend burned me the cd, and it's awesome. They're borderline emoish.. but that's okay. I only mention them because I didn't get into the album until 2005.

White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan
This band is so cool. I started liking them when my sister gave me a copy of Elephant, and I was excited for this album. I don't actually have it yet (why? I don't know...) but I've heard most of the songs on the radio, and I love them.

Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
Just recently got this, and I'm really really enjoying it. The acoustic is very good, possibly better than the first cd of the release. The songs are a new level of greatness for this band, and I dig it.

The Bravery - The Bravery
Recently got this as well, and it's pretty good. I only knew the few radio hits from this band previous to getting the album, but I'm very glad I got to hear all the songs. I like their sound. Great album.

Dean Gray - American Edit - Does this count? It really should
Max showed me this (and made a thread in here, check it out) and I'm so glad he did. It's a remix, more or less of Green Day's latest album, and it is amazing.
Srsly folks.

Soon to come: The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth
It will be out very soon, and I am so excited.
That's about all I can say thus far. MARK YOUR CALENDARS.

A lot of you have already covered bands and albums that I liked in 2005. So I'm going to mention my two favorites that you guys haven't mentioned.

Ben Folds -- Songs for Silverman.
Much more mellow than Ben Folds / Ben Folds Five's previous albums, this is more a reflection of Ben Folds as a family man. Beautiful soaring melodies and heartfelt emotion. Recommended tracks: Jesusland, Time, Landed and Bastard.

Death Cab for Cutie -- Plans
Another beautiful, emotional album. Unlike Death Cab's previous album Transatlanticism, which dealt with the distance between two people, this album has themes of aging, love and death, of living in the moment, sung so sweetly. Recommended tracks: Soul Meets Body, Marching Bands of Manhattan, I Will Follow You into the Dark and What Sarah Said.

Both are lovely, rich melodic albums. A little sad though.

I haven't really listened to it well enough to compare it to the first one though...

1. Alkaline Trio Crimson
A change of pace for the Alkaline Trio... also covers specific events like Sadie G. and the West Memphis Three.

2. As I Lay Dying Shadows are Security
Much louder, and faster than they were before. Still the same guys doing what they love, making metal.

I can't really think of any others, I'll add them when I do.

4. Panic at the Disco! - A Fever You Can't Sweat Out

I don't know what there is not to like about these guys. Their mix of trance-ish music with rock is awesome. Plus the songs with the piano are awesome.

3. Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree

Good album, except for a few songs. "Sugar, We're going down" is one of the lamest FOB songs ever. Oh and whoever you are that said this...

... you need to be shot. Because, quite frankly, From Under the Cork Tree doesn't compare to their other albums in greatness.

2. Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better

<3

1. The Academy Is... - Almost Here

I could listen to this album all day, and not get sick of it. It's like love, only better.

My Chemical Romance, All-American Rejects, The Starting Line, etc., blah blah blah, yeah I like them, but those listed are my top picks.

I hear that Wolfmother got nothin' on Witchcraft, but since I haven't really paid attention to either, I can't state that as my own opinion. Just thought I'd get that out there...

This is the closest to a top 10 as I can think of (not absolutely sure about it, but #1 definitely belongs there):

10. PIG - Pigmata
9. Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
8. Cephalic Carnage - Anomalies
7. Cave In - Perfect Pitch Black
6. Strapping Young Lad - Alien
5. Solefald - Red for Fire: An Icelandic Odyssey Part 1
4. Sigh - Gallows Gallery
3. Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs
2. Foetus - Love
1. Coil - The Ape of Naples

By the way, SikTh's new album will dump all over any other album in 2006. Forget all other albums, especially metal albums. SikTh is a winner.
