ITT-Tech?

I see their commercials on a good 4/5ths of all commercial breaks. That kinda made me stray away from them.

And I'm just going to go to a regular college and get whatever degree I can as a major in computer science (and likely a minor in business)...

*sighs* My plans for the future suck.

Hopefully not. The magazines you want to be heard about in are ones like EGM. Being in Nintendo Power would be like "Now this guy, he got all the Pokemon".

DigiPen, congradufuckinglations. My jealousy is showing.

Right now, I'm applying to Champlain College and UAT in Arizona. I'm sure I can get into UAT, but I'm really looking forward to Champlain. By all accounts, it's the nearest thing to Digipen on the East Coast.

Also, for all future game designers: Don't go to Full Sail. Just Don't!

Lucky bastard... =P

Yeah, DigiPen is right next to Nintendo and Microsoft. There are actually a ton of different game companies here. Redmond WA is pretty much the best city in the U.S. for jobs in the games industry.

DigiPen is probably the best first step you can take towards getting into the games industry, though sometimes you'll hear guys in the industry talking about "typical, naive, fresh-outta-DigiPen guys". As long as you remain humble and don't let yourself believe going to DigiPen makes you elite, you'll do fine in the games industry.

Well, from what I heard, some game companies (read: small up-and-coming devs) are more willing to take someone who does indie work rather than someone from DigiPen. However, if I combine things in my spare time with what I learn while there, then I'm near guaranteed a job.

Nick: That would be awesome. :D I've been wanting to go for the past two years now.

But not necessarily one for a company that will last more than another two years.

It's true that some companies would prefer indie stuff over DigiPen. I got my job over 30 something DigiPen students, and all I had on my resume was ROM Hacking. However, having both is obviously the best situation you can be in.

And yes, my company will definitely be lasting more than two years. We're growing incredibly fast.

Woahwoahwaitwoahwaitwaitwoahwaitholdon!

You put ROM hacking on your resume and got accepted? Do game companies look for stuff like that? My foundations of thoughts are crumbling as I speak, thinking of stuff like that!

Or did you put down experience with Hex editing?

So... who's paying for the tuition? I heard it costs upwards to 50K a year... a bit steep if you ask me.

With a school that good, they probably pay for a good chunk of that themselves. At least, that's how it works with places like Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth.

I don't know if I'm really supposed to talk about it, but I work in game design and my only experience was ROM hacking for about 7 years. I don't want to be all like "Yeah, I work for X company" and then later have people claiming that X company condones ROM hacking / will hire ROM hackers and blah blah blah.

Game companies also like people who create mods for things and quake levels and stuff like that.

...Really? Does that mean that I can use all my ROM hacks as references to my skillz?

If so, wow. Who knew that a hobby would be good for me!
