Haven't seen it yet, but I will tonight and honestly, I really don't want to see it. The only reason why I'm going to, is because a bunch of people from work are all going and I need to get out. Anyway, I've never seen the orginal version, and if I did, I was way too young to remember. I'm not really "Wowed" by the special effects in this movie and I'm not a huge fan of any of the actors.

But who knows, I might come back late tonight and say that I liked this movie, you never know. I just wanted to get that out first.

As anyone seen it yet? Or will you see it?

I'm not really excited for this movie. I want to see it, for the sake of it being Kong and a Peter Jackson movie but nothing really looks appealing to me.

I'm still undecided whether I should go to the theaters or simply find a torrent for it.

I'm going to see it. Only to see what we can expect out of the Jackson in the coming years. He's going to start getting more and more and more and more and more high profile films. LotR was surprising in the fact it wasn't a fuck up. Although I do enjoy his older films (Dead Alive, Brain Dead, Meet the Feebles, Heavenly Creatures, etc.) I can see that he may have problems becoming a serious director. He came out of the B-Movie racket. I may be a fan...But if he is going to mostly be remaking films or using large licenses I feel that he may become frustrated with certain levels of constraint and fuck it up.

As for Kong, I never liked the hairy ape. I watched the JAPANESE version of Godzilla vs. King Kong. The Godzilla = <3

zzzzzzzz....

Yep. Saw the movie and it was okay. I wouldn't want to see it again...maybe in passing on TV, but that's about it. Very slow start, drawn out ending, too many pauses, and, well, some parts that shouldn't have been funny, seemed funny. Sure, it did have a few goos parts, but all the special effects cannot make up for it, I'm sorry.

My friends want to see it, but I'm not impressed by trailers thus far. At least if I do see it, I can have a good time laughing at Naomi Watts.

Wait, that was Watts? The blonde chick!! Wow, did not know that. She looks a lot different...at least to me. And thats not a bad thing, she looked good in the picture...too bad her acting got a little stale near the end.

Yeah, that was Watts. She's sort of been out of movies for a while... at least the bigger films. Maybe that's why you didn't really recognize her.

Someone on the news mentioned Jack Black playing a leading role or something, the first thought on my mind was, "WTF? Did he play as King Kong!?". He is not a funny let alone entertaining actor in my book. Hopefully he'll die of diabeties.

Wtf?

Come on, the Tenacious D song "Tribute" makes up for any acting flaws that he has.

I'm still mad that Godzilla lost. That is complete and utter bullshit.

And I do notice one thing about this modern day Kong. He is small compared to the other monsters.Especially compared to that lackluster American Godzilla which was like really fucking big.

Anya: The special effects didn't make up for it? Is the CG that average/bad?

Wait, the Godzilla for this movie is small? They have him on the building, classic kong, in the previews... he looks huge.

You said Godzilla, not King Kong

And Thoughtless. He didn't lose; it was a tie. Maybe you should actually watch it and pay attention instead of believing the totally wrong hype

Apparently the movie only did $8m or so on opening day, which is... um... bad.

Paper gave it 5 stars, though. So APPARENTLY it's good.

Oh, the CG was nice, but what I was trying to say was that it couldn't make up for the parts of the movie that I didn't like. Its like a video game, you can't go on graphics alone.

So far I know people who liked it and around the same amount who didn't like it.

I did watch it and I did pay attention so don't assume I did neither.

But, the reason I stated Godzilla lost was because I based my opinion after watching the American version of the movie.

o The Japanese version ends with Godzilla's roar, and then Kong's. This was the offscreen equivalent of the monsters "taking a bow." (Though why Godzilla's and Kong's roars came in that respective order is ambiguous.)
o The American version ends with just Kong's roar rather than from both monsters.

Either way, Toho has officially confirmed that it is Kong who was meant to be the victor. Furthermore, up until 1964's Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, Godzilla was still the villain and was thus destined to lose. But to this day, this film's ending has become a very heated debate among fans.

Where I got the info from above

There. I guess that explains my ignorance on the result of the fight.

Precisely! Godzilla is awesome, and even though he is a bad guy he still manages to survive some dumb ape's attack.

Blonde? Iīve always pictured her as a brunette.

But I knew tha Naomi Watts would be in this movie.

Thoughtless: I have the movie with Ghidorah. Quite decent.

I haven't seen King Kong yet, but it is on my todo list. I must say that i don't expect too much from it, it's nothing new... And remakes are never good.

Bad Taste has a boring middle bit. It was funnier with dialog. I've never seen the full version of Braindead. Sure, I own the unrated Dead Alive DVD...but it's still not the full thing, and that pisses me off. Braindead and Meet the Feebles ought to get proper DVD releases.

Anyway... King Kong is a blast. Really good movie. There's not much better than a big gorilla fighting with a few T-rexes, and then ripping one's jaw apart. I enjoyed the whole movie. Much more entertaining than the latter two Lord of the Rings movies, in my opinion. Gives me hope that Peter Jackson will make more good movies.

Now I really wanna see the original King Kong (1933), as well as the original Mighty Joe Young (1949). Maybe I should just buy The King Kong Collection, which has these two movies, plus The Son of Kong, which sounds kind of nifty.

And speaking of Godzilla, I really wanna see Godzilla: Final Wars.
