At work I've gone through like 3 pairs of pants in about 5 months, which considering I work 5 days a week at a restaurant isn't too surprising. However, I think there have to be better pants or prevention methods. I always get a rip in my right knee eventually. Can anybody suggest a brand that will last longest? I've heard Dickies are good.

(my usual pants are like $20 a pair at Walmart)

Yeah, Dickies is quite good; people, most of the time, wear it.

I always wear jeans, and that work great for me. I have a pair of Dickies and an offbrand kind of pants for work, and they do the job as well.
But.. I've never had pants that ripped in the knee, so I don't really know what that's from.

Stop crawling about on your knees!

If you dry your pants in a clothes dryer, stop doing that as well if you can. It causes unnecessary wear on fabric and over time will make clothes a little threadbare -- they will last longer if you hang them out to dry instead.

If I had the planning and foresight (and wasn't lazy) I suppose I could avoid using the dryer. But as for the RIGHT knee wearing out it's b/c that's the knee I support myself when I'm cleaning the floor (which has some nasty grout in between the tiles, I've cut myself on it before).

Oh... well that's definitely a cause for tearing pants.

Maybe you could purchase one of those knee pad type things for when you have to clean floors? That way you could avoid tears altogether.
And what Taryn said.. although I understand not having the time for that. It's quite time consuming to air dry pants, and if you have to get to work, you really have no choice.

If you can wear them at work, get actual chef pants, more than likely, a black pair. They're very strong and won't wear out on you for a while. You might have to order them online, or check around, some areas have actual stores that sell them. If you can find a store that sells nurse/doctor pants, they'll have chef pants too.

There is only one clear solution. Clean the house naked. Or at least sans pants.

With my knowledge on the subject matter, I'd say go without them, I mean, they just get in the way, and all. But if that's not an option, go Dickes, comfy, durable, and stylin' (well not really). What more could I say.

What's shameful about freeing what needs to be free... he sits in a little cage all day, he needs some fresh air every once in a while, right?

I never sit around in my underwear... I prefer wearing them underneath a pair of my mesh shorts, or dickies work shorts.
If I could, I'd go naked... But every 5 minutes I get someone barging into my room.

I tried going naked once, but I'm just too used to having a shirt on. It felt weird.

At least one city in your region will have a restaurant warehouse outlet or supply depot. You can get chef's pants, aprons, and jackets there. (As well as industrial strength cheese graters and the like.)

I'll take five, please.

As a side note I bought a pair of Dickie's Khaki jeans at Walmart and they're holding up well so far. We'll see how they are mid january.
