I'm looking to compose new music for LttP (or at least some areas). I've been experimenting with Hyrule Magic's music editor, and I read Orochimaru's 'Perfect Guide.' It seems to me that HM is not the best tool for creating songs completely from scratch, so I'm going to try it in hex.

I'm starting to learn a little ASM from all the docs floating around--just enough to deal with song data, hopefully. Seeing what happens when you change things in HM's editor helps. So, does anyone know where the music is stored in the US rom? Or how, for that matter (sequential? in a big chunk, or scattered through the rom?)

If not, I suppose I could find it through corruption or blind hacking

...and on a semi-related note, does anyone have Dodongo's Gold? (not a rom request. IPS.) I've done a lot of digging, and there doesn't seem to be a copy currently hosted anywhere at all, not even hanging around sleazy obscure rom sites. Man, I even found "Iced Hyrule"...

Yeah I know where it (edit: it being the music data, no effing clue where to find Dodongo's Gold) is. I'll dig it up for you when I get home (at work right now)

Generally speaking, the data is divided into track data ($D000 in spc ram), samples ($3C00 in spc ram), code ($800), and most work ram is used from $0 to $3FF. There's other stuff too but I don't quite have names for them yet.

As for Dodongo's Gold, I'm pretty sure that's NEONSwift's hack, and he comes here fairly often. Maybe he'll see the thread or you can PM him.

Yeah, that makes sense from what I saw in HM. The instruments will be fine to work with as is in LttP, and I'm going to try to have each new song take up only as much space as the one it replaces, so hopefully I'll be able to work exclusively with the track data... *fingers crossed*

About NEONSwift, I heard that his system crashed hardcore and he lost all his Dodongo's Gold progress (and, presumably, previous versions). I think I remember a post in the archives where he actually asked if anyone had a copy. It's been a while, though, so I might as well ask him... seriously, it was a pretty decently popular hack, so somebody must have it somewhere.

Hmm Dodongo's Gold...good old times... I think I might have a version of it kicking around in my Zelda Hacking folder... God knows where though, the folder is now like 1GB of resources, documents, utilities, screenshots, old hack versions, recieved files etc.

It'll no doubt be the version that other people have though because I did indeed lose all the progress I made to ZDG after the demo was released.

I'm still working on a hack but its mainly on ice while i come up with overly ambitious ASM hacks for it. It's all planned and I've got conciderably better at hacking gfx/maps.

Last time i checked it had the tentative title "The Legends of Hyrule". I was thinking of reverting back to the Dodongo title but I only picked that originally due to my lack of experience and a number of the letters already existing in the "The Legend of" part of the title screen which made editing it easier.

Could either of you post it here as an attachment? That would officially become the only active link to it on the Internet...

Also, NeonSwift, would you mind if it was submitted to romhacking.net? Is it complete enough/advanced enough to be acceptable to you? I just think it would be cool to have this stuff all in one place.

I'm looking forward, of course, to the new hack. Yours, Calatia, and Dark Prophecy will each create their own Christmas on release. It's definitely worth waiting for.

Dodongo's Gold seems like it has more personality as a title than Legends of Hyrule... I'm mostly saying that because whenever I would Google the latter title, I'd get a bunch of transcriptions of the LttP manual.

Heres the IPS file I've got...Should work fine.

I'd say give it a try before you upload it to RomHacking.net though.

As I said Legends of Hyrule is a tentative title so will change it sometime in the future.
