At work.

Since we don't take in retro games anymore, there was this couple who had a few Dreamcast games that I really wanted (ie Marvel vs Capcom 1 & 2) so I bought it off of them.

Tsk tsk tsk...

I did that with a Sega Saturn once. And set up a deal for a Virtual Boy.

Yeah... I don't get how you can work for that place, considering what they've become.

Anyway, the wierdest place would have to be a green basket. When I got my NES, my dad got a green basked with about 7 or 8 games in it. I got to try them and he bought the ones I liked.

My best guess would be that some of us have bills to pay, and therefore cannot easily afford to waste our time being overly selective about our place of employment when really, most places aren't going to be much better.

But, yeah, that's just a guess. Maybe I'm just from some sort of alternate reality where businesses are focused on making money, though.

On the subway in Japan xD a boy from school sold me a Gameboy Advance game for 1100 yen....11 dollars USD, around. I've also won games from magazine contests or other odd things that might be considered "weird".

Oh geez... most of my games were bought at stores, that's the problem.

Maybe at a catalog store... SMB3.

I actually have bought a lot of my games at garage sales. And I once walked by a Blockbuster a few towns over. I noticed a completely untouched copy of Rainbow Six for X-Box (don't remember which one) just sitting there near the dumpster. The poor disk. Not a friend. It wasn't being bought, but god damn. Great transaction.

Well, I bought a few games in an adult bookshop... not to mention the ones I got from the red light district in holland

lol, just kidding. I'm obviously not even old enough to go to those places (and no, I don't have a fake id...)

anyway, the weirdest place I ever bought a game would have to be the salvation army. You can get some real finds there if you look. I got me a master system and a bunch of games for it, as well as countless other treasures I cannot remember.

I remember this one time, a salvation army had one of those strange nes controllers that looked sort of like a laptop (I forgot the name...). You put your and on it, and moved your hand/fist instead of buttons, it was motion sensitive. Precursor to the wii I guess you could say. I have the name of it in a NES game codes book in my basement, I'll look it up soon if someone doesn't beat me to the name...

I didn't buy it though (wish I did, that was a rare find... even when they first came out) but the idiots all the salvation army don't know what things are worth. sometimes you rip them off (I got the master system for like 10 bucks...) other times, they end up ripping you off. The thing was either $100 or $150, and I didn't have that kind of money.

Man, idiots at the Salvation Army? It is designed to sell cheap wares to the less fortunate. Not some fucking coming into get a good deal. You're not ripping them off, per se - in the end that system wasn't meant for you, it was meant for someone who can't run afford anything else. Mind you, I do go to the Goodwill and Value Village to go game hunting too. But the Salvation Army is just a tad bit different. They're not idiots - you're just a dbag.

Also, the wii precursor was the PWR GLOVE. It was so bad.

That controller's the U-Force, I believe. Even LESS memorable than the Power Glove. (Ones who does not Love the Glove can't get in, by the way.) And they have some odd pricing schemes at the Salvation Army stores around here, if you're comparing them strictly to Goodwill. CD's tend to be more expensive, but I made off with a thief's haul of consoles and games for $20 because they were trying to unload them and make room for more in the way of, like, "toasters and blenders".

As for their purpose, even if I'm in a higher tax bracket than their customer base, they look at any sales, no matter who's buying their stuff, as helping the mission. So it's fine with them, I guess.

And as for a Sega Master System for $10... I wouldn't get ANY console at a thrift store that's more than $10* unless it has enough stuff bundled with it. That's hardly ripping them off, considering I got two Genesises (Genesii?) for maybe $12, total.

* Editor's note: Exceptions have been made for the NES because of the whole new connector = PROFIT thing and all.

Pawn shop. The place smelled like old bubblegum and cabbage but it had some awesome prices. I managed to get an NES for about $15 and a few games that costed up to $5 each.
