Hey. When using Lunar IPS for patching, I know that you can combine multiple hacks such as using, say, Super Metroid : Redesigned, plus the Justin Bailey graphics hack.

My question is this. If I were to do that, and then take LIPS to make a new IPS file from that, would the codes for both projects become one file?

Or if someone went through and hacked all of FF1, and then someone else edited the blue screen opening and the bridges only. Would making a new IPS file combine them both?

~~

Furthermore, if I were to, say, have that full hack of FF1, and then added someone's hack of just the text screens after the fact, would that overwrite the info from the first hack?

1)I'm preety sure that would happen yes.
2)From what I've done before, and from what I've heard. I only here its the fresh parts of the rom that get over written.

Lemme stop beating around the bush.

I want to hack a game. FF1 as a matter of fact. And I don't want to make anything overly complicated with the concepts. But I do have a problem. I don't know the damnedest thing about HEX hacking, so I wanted to find someone else to do those three little instances that can't be hacked by FFHackster. But I was curious if I would have to send them the file, or if that person could work on it separately and then send it to me to combine.

I think that it would work with something like UIPS. I think ( I dont remember) that it is for both windows and mac. I have combined SM64 hacks together into one file with my hack included. I have done many hacks all into one so it should work with LIPS. If it doesn't then use UIPS. If you don't know how to hex hack then you have 2 options. There is the slow but very detailed one and then the overall general that gets you started.

1) Google "Hex hacking for beginners" and then follow an NES tutorial.
2) Go through both mario64 hacking threads from the old Acmlm's board and this current one. That is over 100 pages altogether but if you read it all then you will definetly understand hex hacking, a lot of it anyway. That will also get you ready for the begining of hacking n64 games. So, I would go for this one even though it is really long!

Good luck.

I did, actually I am so retarded that I was incapable of making it work. I broke multiple FF1s.

Umm, an IPS only is things that have changedin your rom. if they made the patch of a modifyed copy of your hack and made the source your hack, then applying the patch would change ONLY that part of the rom when applied to your hack. Besides hex is really not that complicated and if you're only trying to change 3 bytes good luck finding someone willing to go out of their way to do something you could clearly learn to do yourself if you tried life would be easier.

I know. It's becoming a pain, because every time I try, I wreck... something.

Did you not read my post above, try doing one of those options. I did the 2nd one even though its harder but now I am a decent hacker. I did both actually but started with the first then did the second.

But he doesn't need to. He's changing 3 bytes. Theres absolutely no reason he cannot do that himself. You're over-complicating things for someone who claims they can't figure out hex, and that isn't going to end well. Really, just google for a tutorial on hex-editing, for such a minor edit there is no reason you can't do it. I think too many rom hackers are just scared to try anything an editor won't do for them...

Okay, I found a new turtorial. Or maybe an older one. Anyhow, it talks as if you're computer illiterate, and it makes sense to me. The others kinda... talk over a beginner.
