| Ok, so I'm having some serious issues with my computer. I had it in storage while I was in London four about 5 months. When I got it out of storage, I switched in a network card that didn't have windows approved drivers. So then my computer started crashing after about 10 minutes of uptime. I then went back and replaced the network card with my old wireless card. Then the shit really hit the fan. The computer was beeping like crazy and just not even working, so I let it sit for about a month because I really didn't have time to deal with it. Now I'm trying to fix it. So here's what's happened so far. After multiple attempts to start it up where it hasn't even put anything on my monitor I got it to stall during the start up and the mother board displayed that it was stalling at
"Expand compressed BIOS code to RAM" I then restarted the computer and it got into windows where right as it finished loading and would normally go to the login screen it gave me a BSOD that lasted for less than a quarter of a second. Then it started up again and was beeping like crazy and stalled at "Test all memory (clear all extended memory to 0)" If any of you have any idea what's wrong/how to fix it I would be very grateful. Right now I'm seeing if I can get rid of my windows install and reinstall it, hopefully that'll work but I'm not sure if I still have hardware problems or not. |

| It looks like you possibly have a problem with your ram. It could be as simple as just buying new ram. | |||

| I don't know how I'm going to run memtest86 if I can't get into windows but is there any other memory test that I could run from the bios.
Anyways, I'm back to not being able to get anything on my monitor (i.e. no connection error, even though the cord is definitely plugged in). I'm getting this now "Complete uGuru initial process. AWARD BIOS take over booting job." (uGuru is the mobo booter) Any suggestions? |

| It could also be a RAM slot on your mobo. I had that problem, but luckily have three RAM ports for the option of single or dual channel, so I just used process of elimination to figure out which one was bad and moved that stick over.
If you don't feel like burning memtest to a cd you could always just pull out your ram and stick one in at a time and repeat with the other stick(s) in either slot. If you find a configuration that works then you'll know it's a RAM issue. (edited by Sweet Kassy Molassy on 02-11-07 03:14 AM) |

| Is there any test to be sure it's a busted CPU? I don't wanna go out and buy a new processor unless I absolutely have to (and if that's true then this box is going to be sitting collecting dust for 6 months until I can get the money).
Also, will removing all the cards in the system have any affect on it, i.e. would taking out my sound, wireless, and graphics card and trying to boot it up without them have any affect if there's a cpu issue? |

You test everything else, and if they're not the problem, you know what you're left with =P Really, I'd test my RAM, and if that's okay I'd assume I had a mobo/cpu problem. I don't suppose you have another computer/mobo with the same slot/socket type sitting around anywhere? |

| If you have more than one stick of ram, you could start by taking out one of the ram sticks, and seeing if Windows will boot more consistantly. You'd maybe need to go into your bios to let it know you have less ram. | |||

| When all else fails, the CPU is fried. That is when it is fried. If for some reason the Motherboard, RAM, and other components respond and it continues to be a source of junk.
I don't seem to have problems like this, though. Usually if I even suspect the CPU it means the entire computer has died or will die soon enough... it's a bad omen, for sure. |
