I was thinking.
Amazing, isn't it?
I am, by all means, what society would define as a complete and utter failure. I am chronically forgetful, to the point of disbelief, often. I have a self-prescribed, mild form of reverse dyslexia--I sometimes misread numbers, 2 for 3, and so on, it kills in multiple-choice math questions, and although not so much a problem with English, with the rise of computers (I sometimes transpose words). I am severely physically impaired, to the point of a near-zero (x, as lim x>0) chance of any job involving physical labor. I am socially impaired, a outsider in the case of society, for any number of reasons. I have average, if not below average mental facilities, surely nothing to remedy--more likely to further injure--my already pitiful condition. I lack ambition for money or success, kindness for man or animal. I am hopelessly selfish.
What is to happen to me, a cripple?

If your self-description got any worse, I'd say it's a twisted miracle that you exist at all . Though IMO life itself is a twisted miracle. Supposedly things get better eventually, especially if you're female.

Nope, I'm pretty sure I exist.

Sounds like you've got to much time on your hands. Take up a drug. Or, you know, rape someone.

Don't joke around in the Officer's Club, please. Rape is a very dangerous and horrible offense, and you're likely to get time in prison if you're caught. Not to mention the bad reputation that will haunt you for the rest of your life.

You're able to write that post, eh? You could make some money off of editorial work, if you tried your best to improve your English. It's not as hard as it sounds.

I never said I needed money, just that I'm structurally disenfranchised. And what's "that post"?

I am going to give you a red name for that. As Chainlink1061 says, don't even joke about that. And the Officer's Club is not the place for stupid jokes either.

You have no idea what that does to another human being. You're not funny. I don't want to see further comments from you

Sorry SamuraiX for partially derailing the thread with this, but I feel that that really needed to be said. And sorry to hear you're going through a rough patch -- everyone feels a bit like that at one point or another I'm sure.

Try to find some things you can do to improve yourself if you are so unhappy -- what's something you've always wanted to learn or do? Why not look into it?

I'm not unhappy, it's just that I run off in a tangent from everything else. Where other people find an intersect with other people, I'm just me.

Well, you sound kinda unhappy. Or more specifically you don't sound happy / satisfied / pleased with your current situation.

As I said, if you're not satisfied with the way things are currently, work out what you can to to make things better. You say you're too selfish? Why not try being mindful of that, and make an effort to be less selfish? Go out of your way to help others perhaps. I'm sure they will appreciate it, and you may find yourself new friends in having done so?

You say you don't think you're very smart -- some people think that things like reading can help improve that, so sit down with a book! Try challenging yourself mentally -- your brain is capable of growth and improvement through mental challenge.

It is possible to improve the things you are not pleased with.

I guess I might have not said this, by selfish I meant not self-indulgence, but that although I care little for others, I care for myself just as little; I am selfless and selfish. I don't think myself stupid, but that it's impossible to measure such a thing; this notion that I hold is generally called "stupid." It's not that I'm not pleased or unpleased, but out-of-place, an aberration. Is there anything so wrong, so vile, about this?

Well, considering you posted a thread about it, then I figured you were in some way unhappy about it.

Or is this just one of those "and I'm proud of it" threads?

As for the "stupid" thing, I only got the impression you were down on your intelligence from the comment: "I have average, if not below average mental facilities".

Your entire first post reads like you're very down on yourself. So I was trying to help.

If you are happy with yourself, what is the problem?

What is there to be proud of? I'm sorry if I'm not making sense, but I don't think that there's any problem of happiness, or the lack thereof. Why am I--in a world of such dissimilar people--alive?

Because your parents fucked and then you were born.

And the world is full of different people. You are bound to be different from a lot of them.

Cause nothing has happened thus far to cause your health to fail or internal organs to be severely damaged enough for you to die. Your parents managed to avoid killing you in the womb and in your early years, and you've managed to avoid killing yourself since.

If you're after a reason or a meaning behind your existence... I personally don't believe in that. You have to make your own reasons.

In that case, why not just flip a coin, if it's as easy to die, as to live? If there are no reasons for either side, then there seems no reason why not.

It's what we call inevitability, or if you don't like big words, fate is appropriate as well. Your parents had sex, as Tarale so lovingly pointed out () and you were born.

But this is not simply the extent of your fate. Nay, embrace the future as it comes to you and understand that whatever you do, thats the way it was always going to be. Not because some god said it to be so, but because YOU made the choice. You consciously made the choice.

You would wonder for a million years about any particular choice. Like, "what would be different if I did such and such instead of so and so?". The important thing to remember is that we do things for a reason, because of who we are.

Your physical condition does not relate to your reason for being alive. The physical aspect of you is an avatar that represents you. The mind contains the consciousness that drives the shell to do it's bidding.

If you look at it one way, the body will reflect the condition of the mind many times over. A built man will have a strong, disciplined mind, where the thin man will have a higher intellect, simply because of what he does. Perhaps he does not believe in exerting lots of physical effort.

Just remember that you can always condition yourself to be stronger. But to be physically strong, you must be mentally strong. If you wish, you could start a mental disciplinary exercise for yourself.

For example, you could say to yourself "Hey, I'm going to walk a little farther today" or "Hey, these jugs of water look heavy, I'll do a few curls with them and go back to what I was doing".

As in the chaos theory, such small things have a profound effect on everything else. Try what I mentioned for a while, and if it doesn't boost your self esteem or actual physique, then I owe you a million internet dollars (I'm stinking rich on the internet )

Do you really think there are no reasons to live?

I may not believe in there being an inherent meaning or purpose to life, but I have reasons to live. But I am sure my reasons for being are different to yours. And it may simply be possible that you have not found your reasons yet... I'm not sure that people are really born with them.

What is it about the world, your life that you value, and why? They could be reasons.

This is getting rather philosophical.

Small things have a small chance of having a big effect. All pasts converge into one future. Except in the immensely rare case of small things going into the past or future. Can anything really be inevitable? Must I value anything, must I have a reason to live?
