So, disregarding the title assuming he is Muslim (Which he is not), what is the general thought train on the subject of Fox News spewing this garbage?

Do they have nothing better to do than degrade the poor man?

And even if he is a Muslim, of which there is no proof, what is wrong with that? Oh wait, Muslims hijack shit. Forgot.

If you've kept up with current events you'd realize that a senator (or was it a representative, I'm not sure) was sworn in with a Koran (happened to be good old TJ's, Thomas Jefferson) and now we have congressmen up in arms because the house and senate are going to be over taken by muslims. Yup, that's one muslin congressman in over 230 years, that gives all those christian congressmen some time to come up with strategies. Oh and the attorney general thinks that we don't really have a right to habeas corpus because the constitution doesn't specifically grant it. Too bad he didn't realize that the constitution is not for giving citizens rights but is actually the citizens giving rights to the government. I've officially given up on politicians.

Back to the topic, I don't really have a problem with Barak Obama being Muslim (if it were true) and I don't have a problem with him being black. Some people think he doesn't have enough experience to be a good president but maybe that's what we need, someone who isn't entrenched with lobbyists and all the back room favors that go around in DC.

As for FOX News, I'd say they're just feeding off the fear and xenophobia (in a sense islam is viewed as a foriegn religion in the states) of the people and it's absolutely disgusting and shows a level of immaturity that shouldn't be seen in an organization that proports to report the news. I have no problem with FOX being on the air but I do have issues with them putting themselves up as a organization that provides unbiased news (because a good amount of people don't realize that it's mostly commentary).

Obama's not a Muslim. Ten seconds of Wikiresearch reveals he belongs to the United Church of Christ, a mainline Reform Protestant church. He's actually the child of a white mother and Kenyan father, so he's not a, uh, "regular" black American. As well as the obvious fact that he's only second-generation, he's also of West African extraction rather than East.

Keith Ellison from Minnesota is the Muslim congressman. He swore on a Koran and lo, the moon didn't fall down and the sun rose in the east.

I understand he is not a Muslim. I even mentioned at the beginning of the thread that he is not. The only reason the topic title is this way is to discuss the ramifications of people assuming he is a Muslim because of uninformed and bullshit news stations like Fox News.

My apologies for asserting otherwise.

You people seem to forget that he supports the Bears. Now, where else do we hear about Bears? That's right, the Russian Bear. In other words, Obama is a communist. A muslim communist.

OK, until reading this thread, I had never heard someone even suggest that Obama is a Muslim (unless you count Tedd Kennedy calling him Senator Osama Bin Laden). So where does anyone get the idea that Americans are being lead to believe that Obama is a Muslim? And what is your beef with FOX news? Do you watch the channel? If you think FOX is convincing Americans that Obama is a Muslim, then you need to watch them a little more often. Even if we are speaking of the real Muslim (Keith Ellison), I've never heard FOX predicting that the moon would fall, or that the sun would rise on the wrong side, or even that he would smuggle a shoe bomb into the assembled congressmen and assassinate them all.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being Muslim, you know.
I don't wish to watch FOX news. There is little to gain from doing so. I've watched FOX news, and I know what it's like.

Did I say there was? I didn't say "luckily, Obama isn't a Muslim cause, if he was, we'd have us a good ol' southern style linchin'." Not at all. I only said that no one assumed Obama to be a Muslim, and FOX news certainly never asserted that he was one.

And you are free to not watch FOX news. But, can you provide any justification for the names FOX news has been called in this thread such as "feeding off fear and xenophobia", "disgusting", "immature", and biased, and my personal favorite a "bullshit news station." These things go far beyond simple distaste or difference of opinion with FOX. What have they done to bring out such an outburst? Perhaps someone can cite a specific example of FOX lying?

I have no idea if Fox was bleating about it, but there was a lot of hysteria in the right wing blogosphere and such, about the fact that he was going to swear on a Koran and that UNDERMINES AMERICA or somesuch bollocks. This sort of garbage, which along with the comments underneath, taught me that Keith Ellison is from Iraq and should be sent back there, that a true Christian would not marry a Muslim, that the Koran = Mein Kampf and that attending Wayne State University causes students to become Muslim.

Koryo: If you had read the thread, you would understand the title was a joke. FOX news did, in fact, make it seem like senator Obama was a Muslim (God forbid he went to school in a Muslim school, which was not exclusively Muslim but welcomed Christians and Jews too).

Unfortunately, I have to pay to get FOX news, so I don't. I have to go by John Stewart.

Hysteria on any sort of blogosphere has nothing do to with FOX news. I imagine swearing in on a Koran did generate some discussion by uniformed, ignorant people who blamed all Muslims for 9/11. But then, there is far more uninformed and ignorant discussion about 9/11 conspiracies, some of which blame the Jews.

Show me this story. I think you're reading far too much into it. I have never heard anyone say that Obama is a Muslim until you started this thread.

OK so FOX news is not "news" but "commentary", and yet you watch John Stewart... which is news, not commentary? The Daily Show is commentary, and comedy at that. Half an hour of stories selected for their comedic value is news? You have no credibility to speak about FOX news' alleged lack of honest news.

Yeah but I didn't mention Fox. I wouldn't put it past them to make a hoopla about swearing in on the Koran but I kinda live in a different country and haven't seen Fox News since 2004 when I was last in Americaland.

Here's a link. Basically, the way they presented the story was very misleading. Anyways, I think that Fox News is not doing a very good job at presenting the news, but neither does MSNBC or CNN. I'm going to stick with standard chanel news because they seem to have an air of professionalism about them. As to the quality of the Daily Show, I wouldn't put it much behind that of Fox or the like.

You identify the daily show as less credible than FOX, yet you still choose to watch it instead of FOX, which suggests that you are simply watching the show that has opinions you agree with, not the show that is more factual.

But really, FOX and the Daily Show cannot be compared on quite the same level. The Daily show is comedy, for one, which means it should be compared with the Colbert Report (which I think is a hilarious show). The Daily show is also a political commentary talk show, which means it is more closely related to shows like The O'Reilly Factor and Hannity and Colmes than it is to FOX's plain old "news" (a guy standing in front of a green screen reading off a teleprompter).

And it was Hillary Clinton's campaign team that found the information in the first place and planned to use it against Obama when the two were running against each other. Mamma Clinton is far from the right wing conspirators that are alleged to run FOX news.

I watch the Daily Show because I like Jon Stewart and I don't watch Fox because I don't like any of the people doing shows on it. I get my news from the Chicago Tribune and the Wall Street Journal as well as Slash Dot and my local NBC news. I think the Daily Show and Colbert Report are both really funny. The difference between those two shows and a lot of the stuff on Fox News that I've seen is that the two Comedy Central shows are obviously not news but the ones on Fox can be misunderstood to be news by people that aren't too aware (I'm not saying everyone who watches Fox, just some people). Also, as far as I know, the alegations that Hillary Clinton's campaign stirred up the story on Barack Obama also appear to be false. Basically, from what I understand, that entire story was based on information given (or found online, can't remember) that had no sources, i.e. your typical case of poor journalism.
